I started in trucking back then 1972. Those drivers were very very different from todays drivers. You had to be really dedicated to the trade. Almost all of them were WW2 and Korean vets so uncomfortable living conditions were nothing for them. Thank you for posting this movie.
I started in 1994 and I’m in my truck right now, as a matter of fact. You are correct, trucking has changed DRASTICALLY since the 1970’s, especially the drivers. I do occasionally run into these old timers who drove back then. They’re always entertaining to talk to!
My step dad drove for Milne truck lines in So Cal , in the mid 70's he was 14 th in seniority I drove with him once from LA to Tucson Az in a cab over and i fell asleep with that motor right next to me ! I must have been 13 or 14 at the time it was a cool trip and I got to see his life , after he said I could ride with him any time ...but my older brother . can't, because he wined all the time !
I started in 99 and things are way different today.. 😊 I run local heavy haul for a construction company and always have. If I didn’t have young kids I’d like to run long haul.
Hey Farmer I was, born on October 10/18/1972 this tv show was, out in September 9/26/1973 a, month before my, first birthday this kinda reminds of a,early version of Black Dog in 1995 and, a bit of White line fever all rap in to one basically
I love those days, things were so much more simple, vinyl records, land lines and pay phones. I had a 1972 Dodge Charger like the one in the movie, I grew up around cabover White Freightliner's. I had a ear-to-ear grin during the whole movie.
I think having access to many distractions at the same time can reduce life quality and disturb living in the present moment. That is way life was more enjoyable for the generation who experienced fully offline life before mobile phones and the internet were created.
Wow! Driving a big rig back then in the desert, no AC, power steering, cell phones, laptops, big fancy truck stops. Grueling! Wore me out just watching him fighting that big steering wheel. God bless them!
@Daniel M I believe you. I have driven a tractor which with direct steering, that would whip the steering wheel around if it wandered into a deep that. Either steer it with your palms or hang onto the wheel with a vice like grip.
@@Ben.jack.in.off.to.you1 Yes, that's why I said he's a great guy, because he gave his driving mate $3000 and not the $1000 he was supposed to get. And he didn't even tell him that their "employer" had told him the driving mate was to get only $1000. He spared him knowing that and made him think it was to be split equally all along. Real friendship!
David Jansen a fine actor back when trucking was trucking I drove for almost 30yrs retiring in 2019 will tell you this once that highway Gypsy feeling gets a hold of you it's hard to get it out of your blood stream trucking today is very corporate you don't hear trucking singers such as Dave Dudley or Red Solvine unless you tune to a country classics radio station this was the good ole days of trucking what you just seen take care and Happy New Year.
I remember the Convoy song playing on the radio in my Dad's garage when I was like 6 yrs. old. Whoever did that song had a deep deep voice like Johnny Cash. Yes, the good old days.
I rememberd my past .... some time ago I was a truck Driver too may be 5 years I was driving an Isuzu.... I went every where in my country even in war affected areas ... It s fun..... God bless all truck drivers
Kind of reminded me of Duel, a little!! I grew up in AZ in the 50s & we visited CA alot! These roadside places including the Roadrunner Truck Stop was very familiar to me! Nostalgia at it's Best!😊
My goodness, what memories! I remember seeing this movie when it first aired on TV back in 1973. I liked it with all of the action it has. David Jansen and Keenan Wynn made a good team. Thanks for posting this movie.
You know it's gonna be a good movie when David Janssen is the main character! After watching this movie turned out to be way better than I initially expected in terms of plot, action and acting, especially for a relatively low budget random 70's movie! 9/10.

Back when you could do convoys and not get pulled over because today if you have more then 2 trucks that is a convoy and it is illegal to do a convoy without government permission. Today convoys are considered a threat and the only convoys you will see are military convoys
Ron Suarez I got some alarming news for ya. David Janssen died in 1980 at just 48 years old. Allegedly he smoked 3 packs a day and drank like a fish for 30 years. That's a lot of self-abuse for anybody to do to themselves. Real shame as David Janssen was a good actor. A very versatile film maker. The best of a good bunch. Same thing with Patrick Swayze. Allegedly he smoked 2 packs a day and drank like a fish for well over 20 years. Poor soul died at just 56 years old. People reading this now, can't we learn anything from these 2 poor souls that were taken from us too early? If we love and miss them as much as we claim, then can't we learn from their bad luck as to how not to end up?
Amen 🙏💙🙏 this world would STOP if not for the sacrifice that they make 💜💗💖 to all the people who go unthanked...God bless each of ya n a massive THANK YOU 💖💗💜⛟ keep'r between the lines ❣❣❣
Being a long haul truck driver myself by all means this was one heck of a good movie I laughed when the truck got to the receiver burned and all. But the load got there :-)
I'm a driver Texas Class A driver and I feel the same way! When I was a kid and a White Freightliner came by I always gave him a arm pump for the horn!!!
David Jaansen was really good in the Fugitive and He even played Richard Diamond early. This Movie could have maybe made a TV Series also, like movin on! Him and the old Man making Runs across the country and having different dangerous Adventures!
I am 66 years old now and never drove for a living, but I had a uncle that was the constable in Sarasota Florida and when he retired, he went in the trucking business. My father-in-law owns trucks ran cross country, so I think everyone in the world has some association with truckers in one way or the other you can’t get around it you can’t get away from it because without them, where would we be? everything that we have was on a truck at one time . I love watching these movies. Looking at the cab overs ! Thanks for sharing this movie with us here in south east Alabama USA ☮️❤️
@@tieroneactual2228 Yea Big Dog..And the new truck stop coiming soon at 57/30....i'M PUTTIN A cb IN MY TRAVELING VAN...i WAS THE mIDNIGHT cOWBOY,THEN jESSE JAMES..gUESS I'LL HAVE TO COME UP WITH A NEW NAME...aS I'M GOING ON VACATION SOON...
I cut sheets of steel for Crown Steel for 10 years..In plant one and two in orrvilleOhio. I know every part on that White Freightliner cab...Later on i drove the White Freightliner and i loved it..
Probably the greatest helicopter stunt flying in any movie is in "Birds Of Prey" starring David Janssen. Came out in 1974 and its on here complete somewhere.
What would a trucker from 1973 think of smartphones and GPS? This was 2 years before CB radios caught on and the superslabs weren't in full force until the mid-80s. Couldn't help thinking the ending was a bit like Road Warrior but I had a good laugh when they stole the bad guys' walkie-talkie and blew the roadblock!
I started in 76, I don't think drivers today have the motivation to truck like that. Women at truck stops aren't as hot either . That's pretty good that Jansen scored out in the desert, try that today.
I'm a Texas Class A driver and I love these ole gear grindin tire shreddin movies! Keep them wheels turnin and the miles burnin!! The 1 and only BIG TOP GUN!!
Any movie or TV series the fugitive or Harry O with David Jansen I totally love it.Also he was in a made for tv movie RMS Titanic where he played John Jacob Astor the millionaire .Thank you for this terrific movie that I've never seen!
Love these kind of trucker movies, reminds me of my Dad. He drove truck from Washington State From 1974 - 1993, when he died from a brain tumor. My sister , mother and I would go with him every summer until I was 14. We went every where. The only places we didn't go to were Florida and Mexico. It was very fun and we got to see a lot of things, well sorta , some as we drove by fast lol And very few bathroom breaks. Learned how to use a plastic milk jug very well for that , even bouncing around in the sleeper . I think that's pretty good talent lol , Saw a few scary people also. I look back now and think my dad had a little more stress taking us girl's with him in some of the area's. I would still love to truck again.
That's a very cool story. I live in Windsor,Ontario,Canada which is right across from Detroit & both Windsor & Detroit are the automotive capitols of there country. My Grand Father is a very well known trucker here in Canada, at one time he was the oldest trucker in Canada & another amazing thing to that, not one single accident, now that's amazing. He retired at 65 but didn't last a year & said I can't handle this if I'm gonna sit in my recliner at home I'd rather sit in my Kentworth hauling beer for Labatt brewery lol. So he went back to trucking and when all was said & done when he finally retired he drove truck for over 60yrs,now that's impressive. Ken "King" Cole King of the Road.
+Dale Sutherland That is a very long career I am sure my dad would still be trucking if he would not have died He was 46 and died of a brain tumor. Kenworth that is the way to go . :) My dad never had a accident either, but he had seen some real nasty one's. This guy was coming down Stevens pass Washington state lost his brakes fully loaded made it almost to the bottom and one car didn't move out of the way . My dad saw it stopped and heard some one yelling dad finally found him he was smashed between the fifth wheel and the trailer. god knows how that happened my dad saw him and told him to hang on he would get some help my dad actually got sick after he had stepped away from him to call for help. then my dad went back and stayed with the guy talking to him , the guy was having a conversation with my dad , but when they took the trailer off the top of him he died. It is a terrible story but I am glad dad was there to be with the guy until he died. I wouldn't be surprised if your Grandfather and my dad met some where along the way. Dad was very well know too. He actually delivered load's to Detroit all the time . now that I have written a book. lol It is nice to have some one to talk to about old times Not many people pretty much grew up in a truck .every summer . There are so many stories , I was with him in the front seat when a lot of them happened
+me D My Dad drove for a potato chip distributor. Took me with him once all over his route. Best day I ever had with Dad. Stopped at *Parker's on Old 99 the lady there thought I was the cutest lil guy she'd ever seen. Give me a big ole candy bar and lovin' me up. Dad got the new Ford COE 4 best driver there. I was 8 or 9. America back then was the cats meow. What happened to us?*
I haven't seen a cab-over in a very long time. By the way, if you like this, then you're gonna love Birds of Prey where Jansen flies a radio station traffic copter. Awesome. Especially with the original music.
Been seeing a lot more of them in the Midwest due to the part shortages on semis Lot more rigs are being taken out of retirement and restoration projects and being put back to work
loved this truck movie . they don't use old trucks in movies anymore they use newer ones . I like the early 1960s and 1980s truck movies. the laws were a lot different then they are now
@@PedalToTheMetal61888 Yes, he found the one-armed man who had killed his wife. The guy confessed to him that he'd done it, but tried to kill the fugitive. Gerard, who'd been dogging him all the time he was on the run, shot the one-armed man, so there was only Kimble's word for it about the confession. And then there was little twist.
Notice prices in pit stops? Then they were in cents not dollars. Of course min wages were $1.25 rather $15 / hour now. Life was much simpler without complaints.
A Good Driver & A Great Movie Jimmy Hoffa Richard Reginald Hibbert Johnston Sr. 1972 Back in The Good old days Seen it Five Time Too Keep on Trucking NG AND LOBLAW s Co Back in The Good old days Thank From Rick Sr. Or R.J Sr.
Those were the good old days of trucking I grew up in that era my dad also worked for the trucking company as an office worker. We watched as it started to go down and now it’s totally different.
+Rick S My uncle had a COE Kenworth back in the late 70s. One issue with those is when you have to work on the engine. Better tie everything down in the BEFORE you lift the cab LOL
Back in my driving days they were called "Yard Dogs", because they couldn't hack it out on the road for the "Long Haul" But I guess "Mule Drivers" would Fit too.
Dunno why the COEs are in Europe,a nd why there aren't anymore in the US. Once upon a time everyone made them, Pete, Ken, Volvo, Freightliner, International.
David, I remember him from The 120 Fugitive on teli. I wase a kid, 10 years, and were kleant to the skreen, every Sutherday. I mis him, he was and will always bee good. Greathings from denmark
As a 30 year truck driver myself, I love these old trucking movies. I’ve been in that very weigh station were they were told they were overweight. It’s on northbound I-5 near Valencia, CA across from Magic Mountain before you get to the Grapevine. I learned how to descend steep grades on that mountain, which reminds me: if they’re going to Houston, why the hell are they rolling north on I-5?? 😂
not what I expected and.... much better than I expected. of an era with, and in similar vein to: Charley Varrick, Electra Glide in Blue, Vanishing Point, Duel..... thank you for this upload
There was a trucking movie i've searched for fruitlessly, don't know the name. They were hauling something (maybe a nuke?) in a cab-over with a machine gun in a turret on the roof of the cab. Sometime late in the movie it gets jammed and will only shoot off to the right...
