I backed Trudvang Legends and Isofarian Guard...and many many other narrative games over the last 18 months. This one looked like it was going to introduce some interesting mechanics with the legends system and the permanent game state changes on the board. I think it could be a cool thing to see, but it could also turn into a gimmick so I backed it to see where I would land on it. Additionally, I'm hoping that this game, like many other CMON games, will fit into my collection as easier entry to narrative games. I don't think it will be in the same weight class as Oathsworn or Aeon Trespass, so I am looking for Isofarian Guard and Trudvang to be the lighter bag building narrative games.
I backed this, but not Isofarian Guard in a big part because of the KS exclusives. I kept an eye on IG right until the end of the campaign waiting for some exclusive worth pulling me into backing.
i backed it for a several reasons: 1) i'm a big fan of the Norse theme. 2) The art style is quite nice. It has some elements that reminds me of Brian Froud as well as fairly authentic from what i recall of Norwegian folklore. 3) i like the campaign/legacy mechanic, with the advantage over many legacy games where the game can be played beyond the campaign play through. 4) i like the bag-building mechanic, which different from the normal chuck a bunch of dice. It reminded me of the bag building strategy in Yggdrasil, but rather than all working on building the same bags, each player can customize their own bags. 5) i do enjoy narrative games, as i also do a lot of RPGs. These types of games can do a good job of melding board games and RPGs. 6) i was pleased how they moved to daily unlocks midway through the game. It shows that CMON paid attention to the campaign and addressed backers concerns. So with so many pluses, i'm trying to keep my expectations under control.
You're absolutely right about the value comparison between Isofarian Guard and Trudvang Legends. I did not late pledge Isofarian yet I will wait until the last moment to make up my mind. I saw the same value issue with Roll Player Adventures tbh, 100$ for a bunch of paper and cardboard.
I was going to back Roll player Adventures but the game is going to be in retail I don't even think it has kickstarter exclusive stuff from what a remember. It litterally just looks like a more component heavy version of legacy of dragonholt. I like choose your own adventures so ill probably eventually get it but I don't think its worth 100 dollars more like 60-70
Went all in on this one. Love the theme as it's my native mythology in the roots. Only game I've backed the art book for and that is because I used to work with Alvaro Tapia. Super nice humble guy and such a skilled artist. He had already worked on on the Trudvang RPG when I meet him for the first time about 9 years ago, and at that time he had still not worked on anything digitally! He was a pen and paper artist with big boxes containing colored pencils and such. We introduced him to Photoshop at work and it opened up a new world for him with a Wacom. He had all his Trudvang originals casually in a binder by his desk, as well as the framed original cover for the last Harry Potter book (he did all the covers for the Swedish releases) in a stack of papers. 😅 I'll have to meet up with him agaim and get the art book signed once I get it. 🙂
I backed this game and am very hopeful they'll do a good job with it (under no illusion that much of the necessary game design had been completed during the Kickstarter). It unfortunately suffered from CMON's terrible habit of slapping Eric Lang's name on something to sell an underwhelming value and unclear game-play experience. That worked for the Blood Rage "trilogy" (great marketing by Eric on that one), but it clearly isn't going to work for any other projects, this one included. I dropped the Early Bird down to a dollar, not only to register my disgust and waning interest mid-campaign, but also because the Bloodborne shipping fiasco was on-going at the time and I didn't want to be on the hook for a large shipping amount should the problem not be solved. I'm sure I'll save at least $10 buying the expansions at retail instead of with the campaign.
If you can get a minis game that works on a popular rpg system for cheap Per mini cost, I’d say that’s a Good back. The gameplay is skill checks with a bag pull, which you see in isofarian guard, but what it adds with the cards slotting into sleeves and the extra boards is kind of interesting enough to pick up knowing the minis will prop up the resell value
I can’t remember why I didn’t back this, but when I saw some videos about it, I wish I had, and I still wish I had. Might get it later, but in all honesty I’ll probably be busy with all the games I did back this year :P Great video as always, and happy for you that the channel is growing so quickly! 👍
Was not into Board Gaming yet. I remember seeing it and would have backed if PM was still open! I did back ISO Guard and Hel, between both of those i am probably good.
I like CMON and the usual dependability of their products. This one does interest me but I will have to wait for secondary market. Thank you for the insight into the negative dips on kickstarters.
Same. Alright backed a number of other narrative games and tired of Viking themes by that point. Maybe if they open Truvang Legends 2 in a couple of years but I doubt that.
Hi Alex, I love Norse mythology, it is my favourite mythological setting by far. Any board game that is based on Norse mythology gets my attention and is subject to an intensive perusal to see if it is something I would enjoy. Trudvang seems like it will be a good fit for both me and my regular board game group so I decided to back it. Hopefully it turns out as well as I hope.
I wasn't originally interested in this either and ended up backing it towards the end because I do like narrative games and I liked how this one did persistence with those pockets. I also liked its fairly uncommon theme for narrative adventure games and its unique look. I backed the base game and added on the dwarves expansion because I like dwarves and it was a Kickstarter exclusive expansion.
This was before my time on kickstarter so no chance of me looking at this but one thing that has spiked my interest is the Perseverance: Castaway Chronicles PM has added the ability to add Anachrony, Cerebria and Trickerion. Now trickerion has been one of these games that I’ve been incredibly interested in and finally have a chance even thought it’s not the full KS stuff I can get the game which makes me happy
I'd also love an update on this from you regarding the big production announcement! I'm quite intrigued by the game and was planning on picking it up secondhand or try to piggybag off of someone if possible, but I'm honestly really worried about the negative response from that announcement and the amount of people cancelling their pledges. Hearing your thoughts on it since you're a backer as well would be great.
My experience was 180 degrees the opposite of yours. Trudvang Legends was the first CMON game I ever backed. I never really liked their games or their campaigns. Something about their marketing tactics turns me off. But with this one being a narrative experience and with a novel fantasy feel to boot, I felt that I could be convinced to give CMON a try. Well, was I disappointed with the other backers when they started dropping out! Or with Lang when he jumped ship to promote his own Ankh midway (another in a long line that failed to hold my interest btw). No, Trudvang got me in the same way Sleeping Gods did or Etherfields: story-based adventure campaign, unique look and feel and a meaty amount of content. Isofarian Guard on the other hand failed to grab me at first, the style looked generic, the graphic design uninspired and I've never warmed to the poker chip type of games. That was until the audio immersion convinced me. Like Mansions of Madness, audio wins me over every time. But back to Training, when CMON was too busy with GenCon (or simply stuck in their ways not communicating to backers, assuming their project was another sure thing) and numbers kept plummeting, I almost dropped my pledge. Luckily, things got so bad that they wisened up and adapted their (now standard) current daily unlock model.
As Justin and Eric posted, given this announcement : www.kickstarter.com/projects/cmon/trudvang-legends/posts/2963510 Any Updates? Should we be asking for a refund or keep our leap of faith on CMON. Frankly, it seemed to me like they brought on board some heavy hitters but it does seem like a blank check from a backers perspective instead of the usual knowing close to exactly what you are getting.
I never heard of this game until now. I had to cancel my MD2 and the sniper game due to emergency bills. Maybe I can get in as a late backer, if things work out. I late pledged isofarian guard. So even if I liked this, I'd have to back out anyway. Oh yeah. Qvack.
It looks an interesting game with a twist in this genre, but didn’t back this or any CMON game since the time machine bad joke, I also skipped Ankh even tough I wanted so much as a game and because it was last game on the trilogy saga of Lang & Smith, and that’s simply because I don’t trust them anymore as a company, the continuously lack of communication and many many delays in his games before COVID and obviously after, they just don’t focus on delivering games, they focus on making campaigns and that’s it I’m done with CMON, nevertheless I will still support Lang as game designer, I’m definitely getting the Blood Rage sequel, keep the excellent work Alex!
Hi,i'm interested for the miniatures of the game but impossible to find ..do you have any informations about these mini..where to buy,etc..or the game was cancelled..please let me know, thanks !
I received the core set today. Expansions and stretch goals wave 2 shipping in 6 months. The minis do look pretty good, but I would imagine you could only buy on expensive resale on eBay etc.
Alex can you do something on the big game companies out there and their games that are always loaded with minis versus not having any real or half-baked game play? CMON, Mythic and Awaken Realms come to my mind. Are these companies REALLY that good and are oozing with talent or are they just in this for making KS's with minis?
Thank you for this review. I like the theme and the legacy. But I don’t like bag building like Arkham horror 3rd edition Request for videos on: Street fighter miniatures Dawn of madness Dwellings of elder vale
@@BoardGameCo will you cover it, in case someone wants to late back? Is my first awaken realm back and I thought.it would go smoother as they have been around the block.
when are we getting a "why backed massive darkness 2" video overviewing the entire campaign?. there are currently no videos from anybody doing so. do you plan on making one soon?
Not right now, I already did 2 full videos and a good part of another, there's only so much I can do on one game :) Maybe before the pledge manager closes.
Ok I must be an Alex Fan Senior, interesting game. I think you should come up with a CMon song which you start each CMon game video with. I have to review your closing. Is this the video you liked your final statement in. Thanks for your time Alex! Your flavor text gets 2.5 quacks our of 5 QUACK QUACK QUa....
I didn’t back it because I didn’t know about KS then/: I did back Riot Minds Trudvang Adventures and when I found out about this it was too late. I just wanted the miniatures, the game could have been a bonus
So now this is secondhand, since I got the early bird pledge, but I’ve seen quite a few people contacting CMON customer support and getting a pledge in. Might be something worth trying.
BoardGameCo I valued tainted grail more of the two and was originally planning to get myself a copy of that game. Of course even the best of plans change and so had my evaluation of the gameplay. While I found it enjoyable , I think Lucky Ducks Destinies might perform better at a much lower cost. That and the fact that Aeon’s Trespass Odyssey covers my itch of having maps to travers 👀
"I simple man." lol Soooo...how much did the after market value go up on Trudvang by withholding this video until it was too late for *us* to join, Alex? Hm? I think you owe us a song. : ) Sadly, I didn't pledge b/c I was not working due to covid and wuddn't sure when I would be working and now I am working and it's too late. I've lost. #sigh
