I’m in San Diego, and when I looked into solar, I couldn’t find any solar company that didn’t have a lot of negative comments online - mostly for poor warranty service - but also companies that want to own the panels they put on my roof. I was ready to buy had I been able to find a company that sells the solar system 109% to the customer - and had good customer feedback after the sale. Couldn’t find even one.

Solar is like anything else, if you educate yourself, you don't get scammed. When 8KW system is installed on my brand new roof, it will take 7 years at today's prices to pay off. Notice I said, TODAYS PRICES. We got a notice that electric is going up 10% by fall. The 7 years just went down a few months.

So you're paying interest to front load your electric bill 7 years? Also, you must use a shitload of electricity, for me at a 6KW it would take 15 years to break even here in SoCal. That's just breaking even. You think your panels are going to be as efficient as the panels in 7 years? You're going to want to upgrade because they won't be as efficient.
@curtswartz1897
@curtswartz1897 17 дней назад
@@Silidons91 I'd have to see the math on a 15 year payback, you would have to paying a huge amount for the labor. Solar Panels loose around 1% efficiency per year and most have a performance warranty of 80% at 20 or 30 years Local electricity prices just went up 10% in my area so my payback time dropped again.
@michaelwalsh9145
@michaelwalsh9145 7 дней назад
You never included maintenance costs and the performance warranty isn’t worth the paper it’s printed on, you obviously didn’t read the small print and most of these companies will be long gone before things go wrong with your installation.
@curtswartz1897
@curtswartz1897 7 дней назад
@@michaelwalsh9145 You never mentioned EXACTLY the maintenance costs would be for a system installed on the roof. I suppose if you live in highly dusty area you would need an occasional cleaning if you didn't get regular rain fall. Hardley a big issue, be like having someone check for fossil fuel generator yearly. Now your criticism of the install vendor could be valid, the drastic rise in interest rates and changes to payments for extra power production have hurt the installer market. Some solar panel providers will warranty the panels directly if the installer goes out of business. Life has some risks and each person has to educate themselves on the risks and make the appropriate decision for their situation.

No one is talking about the additional cost to remove and replace the panels when the roof needs to be replaced do to age. 90% of people ditch the panels when the realize that they have to find a third party company (which don't exist ) to remove and replace the panels. The roofers won't touch them and the solar panel companies will only install new systems. That is the cold hard solar truth that no one want to talk about. Sorry.
@jesuspunk84
@jesuspunk84 5 месяцев назад
Thats why you install solar panel on your roof if its in good condition or have the roof redone before installing them so you only do replace the solar panels and roof about every 40 years as panel are nowadays 85% efficient after 30 years... so maybe they will be at 75-80% after 40 years. You can also have them on a ground mount if the roof situation is not ideal, that way maintenance is way easier as well.

Here's how it works, folks. You pay for a system that is connected to the grid. Then, during higher producing months the excess energy is put into the grid and sold to other customers. The electric company then issues you credits for the lower producing months, but only enough to barely cover your winter energy costs. All of that excess energy goes into the pockets of the energy company. You just financed their operation! On top of that if the power goes out you get to rely on batteries for power. It doesn't matter if the sun is shining since your system isn't likely standalone. They have total control and are making gains off of your investment! Long term power loss and you are in the same boat as your neighbors once those batteries are dead.

This isn't solar power's fault. Several thousands of people enjoy using it as their entire sole power source. However, when people do the financing plans, it often turns into trouble. Many installation companies have a hard time with good plans, and they push hard to get people to install them. If you're going to buy solar, pay for it all at once. Paying interest will kill you. Also make sure its contracted for repairs incase something fails and goes wrong.

The thing that gets under my skin is that some people encourage me to get solar panels installed but when I ask those people (including my own sister) how much their electricity actually costs them per month, they are rather invasive. They will tell me that they receive a very low electric bill for example like $8, $12, $15 (whatever), but what they won't tell me is how much they pay to rent the panels. However, that is very important. For instance, if your bill is $8.00 but you are renting the panels for $250 per month - in actuality you are paying $258 a month for electricity - not $8!!! I get the impression that they won't disclose that rental amount because they feel foolish or ripped off but don't want to admit it. Reply

My neighbor has a 18kw system, and yes his electric bill averages 8-10.00 per month.. SO he bought them, and explains it like this. Lets say he paid 30K for the install, those soar panels are saving you 250 or more a month on your electric bill, but if that 30k was sitting in the bank its earning what .05% or less if its just sitting in the bank. SO for my neighbor he looks at as he is making 250 or more per month.

I’m in north west England at 53degrees north. Prevailing winds are south westerly bringing clouds and rain for weeks at a time. Three bedroom semi detached house with hipped roof. Rear faces east, side faces south, front faces west. Solar panels with batteries quoted at £20,000. Even with energy costs rising, that’s about nine years worth of electricity. By which time the panels and batteries would have lost half their efficiency, we’d still have to top up from the grid, neighbours have pigeons nesting under theirs and future purchasers may be refused a mortgage.

My system will pay for itself in 4 years. Now looking to add batteries to capture more solar during day, run house at night, and export more to the grid. Am located in northern Australia. Even renters or those living in condos (apartments) have options: 1. Battery: to charge during off-peak and run house (or specific appliances) during peak times, or export to grid during peak times. Only makes sense if the price of your electricity has peak / off peak charges , or you have solar panels to charge the battery during day. Can combine with Balcony Solar below. 2. Balcony solar: velcro strap solar panels to balcony rails, garden shed, or anywhere else that may be suitable, and plug inverter into power point. Can combine with Battery above. The above might not offset / cover all of electricity usage, but it can help reduce your bills. Always do your research first. And of course, always seek approval from landlord, electricity provider, electrician, etc.

The biggest scam of this century is the solar power system. An average solar system costs at least $30,000 and claims to produce a zero-dollar electricity bill, but in reality, this never happens. In my experience, I installed a solar system capable of producing 30 kWh, but there was no change in my electricity bill. I disconnected my solar system for 10 months, and there was still no change in the bill. When I reconnected it, nothing changed. Does this mean the system is faulty? If it only happened to me, it might be an isolated issue, but the same thing happened to two of my friends. They installed a $90,000 system and are still paying the same amount on their electricity bills. The apps provided by solar companies are just animations. These apps should be audited because the data they show about production is not accurate. What is happening? I have no idea. Electricity production used to be the responsibility of electricity companies, but now consumers are producing it and not benefiting from it. In reality, it doubles the cost: you have the electricity bill from the company and the solar loan payment. Who cares about this? Solar companies are robbing money with the help of government agencies. The average life of a solar system is 20 years. Even if the system works, it's not beneficial because the money spent on the loan and interest could cover 20 years of electricity bills, including inflation. If your solar system fails after 10 years, consumers have to pay out of pocket to fix it. Solar is a total scam. Please don't fall victim to this.

@@NickTheHotDogMan You are saying that what my friends and I are experiencing is not reality! You must be part of the problem, which is why you are supporting it. No one would ever recommend installing a solar system with financing. Lease numbers are low right now, but if you plan to sell your house, you have to pay off the entire panel cost. This means the lease ends when you sell the house, and all credits go to the leasing company-what a joke! This solar system was installed by Tesla. When I contacted them, they said it's not their problem unless it's mentioned in the contract! We installed a system capable of producing 30 kWh, and if it's not producing that amount, whose problem is it?
