Notes about the game: Much like it's sequel this PC port is very glitchy. There are multiple audio issues including a complete lack of car engine sounds and low volume gun sound effects which cannot be fixed. This makes playing without the soundtrack feel very dull and empty. Thankfully some of the songs in this are not copyrighted so I edited them into the video at appropriate times. I didn't record in 4K for this one as the HUD and subtitles shrink to the point you can't even read them so I settled for 1080p, however, this game is playable at 60fps which is a bonus. Big fan of this game but like NYC it has a disappointing PC port.
@@drephil3011 I felt like LA had too many endings for me. Bad endings and the fact that if you ain’t beat a level? You can still continue and the main character just looks like he ain’t shit of a cop 😔. Kinda depressing to me and he lose his life on a big case. True Crime New York i felt was better overall without all that LA had. Just one bad ending and a good ending. No alternate scenes
Back in the day as a kid with no money you would only get games typically for birthdays or Christmas. So you would sit down and play them mindlessly for hours, just trying to do new funny things and explore. All that time with games makes them so much more nostalgic today.
It took me until I was a adult to playthrough it again to understand the story and to actually beat the game. When I first had it was a kid and I didn't care for missions most the time I just drove around and shot stuff up lol
@@scarfacevakarian7619 yeah it was a lot of fun man especially how they had it where you could play the good cop or the bad cop and get different endings to the story I believe three and total each being a little more difficult to achieve and you only being able to get the first one being a bad cop
Played the hell out of this game back in the PS2 days. James Hong is an international treasure and the world is better off for having him. The rest of the voice cast is nothing to sneeze at either. Too bad about copyright because some of the boss music is awesome like Minerva playing during the bad ending Mako fight.
This game is so awesome. I beat it three times. Its so much fun. If it had better ai, hit detection, frame rate and an actual working map in the pause menu as opposed to just showing you on the map it would have been perfect. The voice acting is incredible. Christopher Walken steals the show by an absolute mile. The game is so over the top, its absolute fun. That soundtrack is full of bangers. Its probably top 3 for me behind Grand Theft Auto Vice City and Sleeping Dogs. Exceptional playthrough!
To me, the True Crime games are the best "gta clones". NOTE: I have only played one saints row game(The 3rd one). Things I immediately think of about these games are the excellent story telling/voice acting(which is why I still watch it all of these years later), great soundtracks, and I feel the hand to hand fighting with upgradable attacks, is better than in gta. The bad thing I instantly think of is the bad ai(which really hurts it), and the terrible...terrible car handling.
I remember this back in 2003 I was a freshman. I was blown away with graphics and map size. This and Freedom Fighters were amazing. It's crazy how fast graphics improved since. You can rin this on a cell phone these days.
I dont understand why devs dont make cop games - imagine the insane story mode of trying to figure out who’s the dirty cop in the city or something like that. That would be awesome
Wow! So many memories brings me this videogame. I remember back in 2007 when I only had to go to school and then after doing homework, I could spend two or three hours playing this videogame with my brother. Like many others users, I decided to watch this video to understand the plot as we became adults. It is surprising how time flies. Now, I agree that we need a remastered version of this fascinating game.
I'm so happy you up load this. I remember getting this game for the GameCube and I was in the 9th grade I use to cut school to play this game. Aww the memories.
It needs to be! But I don’t think it’ll never happen, nobody never spoke to the PS4 company about it honestly. People spoke out about wanting a remake of GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas 🤷🏾♂️! That’s gonna be big money 💰! But sadly they ain’t worried on making a sequel 💯
When I first played this game after renting it as a kid I had no idea how to play properly so I only got to the poor ending. I thought I had to solve every street crime between story missions so all I did was shoot everyone in a street fight instead of arresting them if they surrender. It took me until I was old enough to buy and own the game to play it properly with good cop status to get all the endings
Looking forward to your next gaming adventure. This gameplay is absolutely insane. The way you pulled off those combos. Outmaneuvered your opponents. Had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Major props! I've been following your channel for a while now. I just wanted to say thank you for consistently delivering top-notch content. You're a true inspiration to aspiring gamers like myself. Great choice of game. Keep it up.
Despite its flaws, I really enjoyed playing this as a teenager shortly after the Mac version came out, around 2004-05 or so. The concept of combining GTA-style driving and shooting with martial arts fights and stealth sections was quite ahead of its time, even though many aspects of it weren't quite as refined in practice as they could have been. That goes for the slow-mo action and destructable environments as well - really neat game elements, but lacking in polish. I feel like with a slightly bigger budget and an additional few months of development, this could have been a truly A-tier production... still, the whole experience was a lot of fun, and this video brings back a lot of memories.
Lmao I remember I used to have to restart the game every time I played because I didn’t have a memory card😭😭 one of the best games to come out on the Ps2
Never ceased to amuse me how, while sneaking to Jimmy, you lose points for using lethal takedowns. Then, when you find him, you get into a big shootout that results in numerous lethal takedowns.
"who belonged to that friggin pinky" has been stuck in my mind for more than 20 years. Thanks for letting me find out where it came from, bro. I can finally put that part to rest
True crime NYC is a MoneyGram man they knew Rockstar had beat them with GTA by that point after San Andreas they just stuck Snoop Dogg as the protagonist and that was basically it knowing they would get buyers off that alone
This game was the shizzle! Even though it’s how old now? The slow mo dives, the shell casings ejecting, the lock on recticle, and even the way he picks up dropped weapons with his foot. It was well thought out. And tbh , is there any other game in the world where you can play as Snoop DOGG ?!?
Awesome and epic! An all time nice classic! A shame that the car engine sound isn't loud enough, but I still enjoyed watching the video regardless. So good job. :) Rafferty is voiced by Michael Madsen who also voiced Toni Cipriani in GTA 3.
This was my absolute jam as a kid. I had GTAIII and True Crime and I liked true crime way more. I was terrible at it, but the map was solid and there was a lot of fun stuff you could do on the side. I specifically remember watching my older brother beat levels and i wanted to catch up to him but i was dogshit at the game and there's a feature in the game where you can just fail a level and continue on with the story which I did just so I could try and deceive my brother lmao.
After all this time, I still own and have this game! To me it was a gem! I played everytime right after school. The game also reminds of the similar game sleeping dogs. Wich has more kung fu and action. But both of these games ROCK!!
If I remembered correctly the third one was supposed to be based in Hong Kong. I think Square Enix carried the flag and made Sleeping Dogs… well, that was all the rumors I heard going on at the time.
I would personally suggest that Activision should remaster both "True Crime: Streets Of LA" and "True Crime: New York City" for the newer gen. consoles. Just like how Rockstar Games remastered the "Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy" series... GTA: San Andreas, GTA: Vice City, and GTA: III. The graphics in those games really made a difference in the classic videogame history!
Despite the PC port's issues, would you recommend it over having it on PCSX2 or the other way around? Personally I've been trying to find this game for PC but I can't find it anywhere.
I loved this game. I played it tons upon release. sure, nowadays I don't remember every cutscene off the top of my head, but watching this video, the moment it starts playing I immediately remember what will happen. such a good game. and for some reason the freakin luxaflux logo animation has a ton of nostalgia for me lmao.
Watching this now and going through the exact same thing! Each cutscene and one-liner brings the memories flooding back. It's a shame this game didn't have a bigger budget and better/longer development, because it was packed with such a great story and so many cool concepts, but many of them feel kind of unrealized, especially in retrospect. Was still a hell of a fun game despite its flaws, though.
I remember playing this game back when was in Highschool. It was a great change from the GTA games I've been playing before. I wish I could play L.A. again on the PS4. But at least they have Sleeping Dogs.
Played this game so much back when it came out. You can play as a cop, not sure why we haven't seen Rockstar emulate this kinda format. Shame Activision closed the original studio. They probably would have been one of the best in our times.
Yeah they could have done Streets Of Miami having that Miami Vice, Burn Notice, bad boys and Scarface vibe to it. Square Enix should buy the True Crime IP and remake Streets of LA and New York City and possibly name Sleeping Dogs True Crime: Hong Kong- A Sleeping Dogs story. Or Sleeping Dogs: Hong Kong -A True Crime Story.
@Willzyyy Is this really the whole thing? I remember at least 3 missions that weren't in the video. Another strange thing I also remember playing thru all the missions in this video but getting the bad ending at the very end not after 1 hour. Any idea what's happening?
