if you do want to any additional research, Lake Lanier is in Forsyth County, which was inhabited by black people. In 1912 there was a "racial cleansing" where someone accused to black men of assaulting their daughter and the white people drove out all the black people, burned the city down, and remade it in their image. To this day Forsyth County is r*cist as hell
Correct! I see a lot of comments thinking it was a predominantly black town at the time the land was taken by the state in the 50’s and no, the black people were driven out in 1912 when that happened.
Wow! That's so sad. And you even said to this day it's still rascist. Makes my stomach turn. God bless the ones lost an taken to soon and the ones that still have to go through racism today
I've been swimming in and boating on Lanier since the 80s, and have seen and experienced all manner of hinkyness. Keep in mind that Lanier is HUGE, and has all sorts of nooks and crannies. There're a lot of blind coves that are impossible to see from the main part of the lake. Lots and lots of places to get lost Locals call the bridge going over Buford dam 'Su*cide Road'. It's got some serious curves on it, and shoulders that slope right into the water. The dam is also where those monster catfish live. Just in front of the dam, the lake is over 200' deep. Water is released from the dam at least once a day, which causes a huge amout of water to be drawn towards the dam. That current doesn't affect the surface water nearly as much as the water lower down. Catfish hang out there, waiting for their lunch to come to them. Local rumors say catfish the size of sedans are down there. That current is also responsible for weirdness all over the lake. Hands pulling you under? Yep, that's a whirlpool caused by currents. Hit something big in open water? Yep, that's likely to be one of those catfish. Or maybe just a random body. Happens. Rite of passage to go to the lake at night? I mean, I guess. Most kids hang out by the lake to drink, smoke weed and fool around. But then, that's a rite of passage around here, too. Haunted? Of course it is. Everything here in the deep south is drenched in centuries of blood and pain.
new england is drenched in centuries of blood and pain too, shit be haunted af up here. i’d challenge you to find a place in this country where some kind of atrocities haven’t been committed, they’re few and far between.
@@shavillewright5557 ☺️ oh, wow! Thank you so much! I'm over here squiggling around in my chair like an excited puppy! 😊 💖 This is truly one of the best compliments I've ever received. Stephen King has been one of my favorite authors since I was given Firestarter in the early 80s, when I was entirely too young to be reading Stephen King 😆 You've made this old woman ridiculously happy. I hope your day is as warm and fuzzy as mine is right now 💖🤗
I can remember driving over it daily from Cumming to Flowery Branch and the Dam Road (for short) is all twisty. I get it though, I once had a mental health crisis and tried going as fast as I could. I was a dumb 20 something and it was deserted, but by then muscle memory took over. I pulled over, called my mom and got help.
If you’re interested, Bailey Sarian covered this in an episode of Dark History. This was included along with Central Park and Dodgers Stadium. I’m pretty sure it’s the same lake. The whole damn city underneath made me think it’s the same. I might rewatch both videos back to back.
I can only recall going to Lake Lanier once as a little girl (but I'm sure I went more than once). I was walking in the water, and I was a little under chest deep. I still remember, to this day, stepping on what I swear was a human hand. I freaked out and ran to my mom and told her, and she, of course, didn't believe me. She just told me to go play. I stand by that to this day, it was a hand, no one was swimming around or under me, even if they were, why was their hand on the bottom like that? It wasn't moving, and it was on the ground. Who goes and just lays on the bottom of a lake like that? And doesn't swim up when they get stepped on? Dead people. Whatever. Also, I'm only just now learning about the stories surrounding the lake. I had no idea at that time.
I was waiting on this one. Lake Lanier is a popular topic in GA. Most people down right refuse to swim in it because of the town underneath it and the fact that it was a black town that reportedly ended in a forceful eviction from the city of Atlanta. I did a boat tour on Lanier. It’s gorgeous but it’s history is incredibly ugly
@@Juleez26 the boat tour was actually sops girl. But legend has it, even in a boat you’re not safe. They’ve capsized out there before. So I was scared to death doing that
Tamika losing her son Kyle was the first that I had ever heard of it. There was a drought one year and so much of the old town was revealed a few years ago. So many places used to be Black towns that got stolen, like Central Park used to be Seneca Village... The culture of the colonizer is an evil one!
I remember my mom showing me pictures of the bottom of Lake Lanier when the drought came. People try to hide black injustices under anything but it always comes to the surface.
Yea lake Lanier is haunted Fr! People die while swimming in the lake every year! You should do a video on what really happened at lake Lanier and how it even became a lake to begin with. It is very sad!!! And not enough ppl talk about it. My family refuses to go there after learning about it.
@@sunniegb its a whole black community houses, churches, and graves, trees so sad. More true story documentaries are online, I link one story below. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-v8T5EGG3ZP4.html
I cannot describe my appreciation, admiration, and respect for you. I have been here since the beginning, and you never disappoint. I always feel like I'm chillin with a good friend. Love and light, always. 🧡
That’s exactly how I feel! Like she is a good friend the type of friend that you pick up where you left off. Xoxo sending lots of blessings to Her and you.
I agree 💯. Sometimes I just listen to the “Wig Fell Off Date” or “Pervy Pastor” vids when I’m lonely & missing my best friends who passed. I always giggle & feel better. I feel like I have a friend again trying to cheer me up.
I can’t believe you’re almost at 200k😭 been here since 7k and I’m so proud. love you girl thanks for being so amazing and bringing us all joy and laughter
I live on lake Lanier and it has a very creeeeepy history, but I’ve been here my whole life. This video is awesome and so close to home! I grew up and learned how to swim and water ski in lake Lanier. In high school, this was the spot to hang out on the weekends. As an adult, I can’t bring myself to step in the lake…
The truth about Oscarville and it's history was uncovered by a long time resident who's family has been there for generations. He had to dig deep and faced a lot of road blocks even from family members. I'm glad he pushed thru and opened up the discussion.
Also note that Lake Lanier runs through Forsyth County (I live on the cusp in Buford) in Cummings, GA which is a racist county (county that was on Oprah) so it was said that the land that was taken, was taken from African Americans.
I wouldn't say racist no more....but the fact that people still see it a racist shows you how much this county use to be racist to the point that it's still seen as that today. The land you're talking about in fact is actually the land surrounding browns bridge which use to be a successful farming community mostly made up of African Americans till 1910s when they were driven out by an incident that led to people hatred to be "justified" in their eyes.
Our ancestors' revenge allegedly. There is also said to be an entire rollercoaster under water according to a dive team as late as the 1980s. There's enough to do here in ATL outside of Lake Lanier. Outstanding job dearest!
I thought this originally too but the lake is taking Blk ppl .. so that Kind of killed my theory in my head. .. I think They take whoever at this point Or maybe it’s the huge catfish
I’m from Georgia and I’ve never been to Lake Lanier because I truly believe it’s haunted. Plus I’ve driven through some of the cities near the lake and could feel the racism (confederate flags, etc). No thank you!
I live in Atlanta, and have been to Lake Lanier several times. The place feels eerie all day. The water is thicker than sewage water, plus you can’t see the bottom. I hear about deaths all the time, especially in the summer when drinking is involved. Have been back since the place turned into a bathing lake for many.
One of my dearest friends died in Lake Lanier in 2016. I almost did not even watch this video because Lake Lanier brings up too much trauma. I never would have watched if not for loving your content so much. 💘I live in Atlanta, south of Lake Lanier. Born and raised here. I grew up going to Lake Lanier for fun, mainly to their "beach" area. As a young adult, I spent a few summers going to party in Cocktail Cove while I was dated someone with a house boat. There's an area where a TON of boats go to tie up to each other and party all weekend. More alcohol and drugs than I'd like to admit to seeing and using. A few years later, I met an amazing human being named Jason Blalock. He was a fireman and paramedic in DeKalb County Ga but he lived closer to the lake. We dated casually for a while and remained really good friends after. He was genuinely one of the nicest, funniest, most genuine people on earth. He is missed by so many people. His death is a giant mystery to me still to this day. I ruminated about it daily and had nightmares for a year or so, until a therapist helped me to "rewrite" his death story into one that gives me more peace than the truth ever could. He was 37 and a really good swimmer. Strong as an ox and quick on his feet. He went out partying at Cocktail Cove bar with friends one night and they lost track of him at some point. The next day when he didn't show up for work at the fire station, his boss knew something was wrong and reported him missing. His vehicle was still in the parking lot at the lake. They were not able to find him for 6 days and when they did find him, he was in the lake. I have no idea what happened to him and that haunts me. He deserved so much better than to become one of the lake's victims. It just doesn't make any sense. In my heart, for my sanity's sake, I have to believe that he probably drank too much, fell and hit his head, was knocked unconcious and drowned peacefully. Any other possibility is too much to bear. I loved him dearly and miss him terribly. RIP Jason April 24, 2016. (Even that date is off for me because who knows what day he actually passed. I think the 24th was when he was found and declared deceased.)
The blooper reels give me 90s movie vibes and I look forward to them at the end of every video. 😂 I moved to Metro-Atlanta 2.5 years ago from DC and I'm not too far from Lake Lanier but my lil tail wouldn't dare. The history of it's creation is terrible. Those spirits are not playing with these people.
20yrs ago I dove off my friends boat on Lake Lanier and it felt like I hit the bottom. I literally thought in that moment, “My necks broken”. We were in deep water, there wasn’t any debris and we had been swimming and jumping in for hours. It was like I dove into a wall, I’m fortunate my hands lessened the impact to my head and neck. It still hurt like hell. We left after that, totally freaked out and I have never dove into a body of water again. The lake tried to paralyze and drown me.
Thought it was just me who felt more unsettled by the fact there was a whole town on the lake floor than anything. It absolutely gives me a very eerie feeling.
SPOOKY! When I was a kid, we lived near a man-made lake for a few years. It also had a town under it, and I was kind of weirded out about it when I found out about it. I think it was made about the same time as the Lanier lake... And catfish are terrifying. They get HUGE, several feet long, and are known to hunt. I just saw a video a couple of days ago these catfish that were hunting pigeons that were getting into the water. The catfish know how to jump and grab the birds, whole a$$ birds in they mouth, and swim down to drown them and eat them. There was another video I saw this year of a massive catfish in a creek. They could easily nab a child, and probably will grab a grown up too. NO THANK YOU GHOST CITY WITH SHARK CATFISH. My Azz is staying on DRY LAND.
I don’t see how people hear stories like this and STILL want to go in or near that water 😭 seeing the videos of what’s underneath is a horror story in itself!
I just started the video and felt the need to tell you THANK YOU!!! For you to be so consistent and provide GREAT well researched stories on the weekly (sometimes 2 times in one week) We love you so much and the best is yet to come!!! (I’m still believing 200k subs by the end of spring) 💗💗💗💗
We have one here in Arkansas. It’s taken many lives. I’ve seen one. Pretty crazy but ya there’s a old hotel bed and breakfast type thing and a few buildings under it. They did the same just dumped water on top of beautiful places. Definitely don’t jump when the water is low 😬😬
@@sonyacameron4124 & @shaheen Johnson so... this is just "something they do", huh? There are so many tales in the US of cities under lakes... Never considered it night be racially motivated. I'm gonna add this to my gathered knowledge of "mud flood/buried history/ancient technology" mental library. Thanks for the 'thought bubble'.
@Katchi I’m not sure about anything “they just do” it’s apparent that they “just did” in these situations. But it’s very interesting! When the water is low some of the buildings tops can be seen. All of the land belonged to a man that did many things here. But the information says that his expenses had gotten to high he wasn’t getting a lot of business at his locations so he sold the land with intention of dumping the lake on top to not have further things to pay for and basically that was that. But it’s extremely beautiful it’s called beaver lake in Arkansas. Definitely look into it if interested. I don’t know if they were racially motivated. I’m sure many things are I try not to jump to conclusions. Just sharing what I’ve seen, read and live near.
@@katchibediako7036 that's not what I'm saying because it's definitely racially motivated but I didn't have time to type a long paragraph... So I'm not sure what the sarcasm is for but you have a good day.
@@shaheenjohnson7493 my quotes were taken wrong, sis, there was no sarcasm. My mother was a historian and, based on her research and stories like this that I've stumbled upon, I've found many times black people are displaced in an effort to create tourist money, whether it's placing a lake in a land locked area or building a stadium just to tear it down in a few years, or because they were too self-sufficient... and that's just metro Atlanta. Native/black Floridians got it real bad, as did those from SC, MS, AR, and OK, too. I was simply noticing a trend that I hadn't quite noticed until I saw y'all comments. And I added you to the reply because I was commenting on both of your statements and wanted to keep you in the conversation.
I just started re-watching you again after a period of being away from social media and I'm actually so thrilled that you've started telling urban legends. Thank you for your always amazing content ❤❤❤❤❤
I'm adding lakes, especially big, southern ones, to my "Nope" list. The mosquitoes were bad enough, but now we have sedan sized catfish, ghosts, and underwater dead hands? A whole coupla towns of..."all of the things". I'll pass.
The ONLY person I would invite to Lake Lanier is my first baby daddy. They say its cursed because the land that they flooded to create it was black owned.
I'm with you...not even my pinky toe! They can keep it! At first I thought it was a fact or fiction and then realised it was Urban Legend and I went all shivery... Nopeity nope keep those manky zombie hands to yourself lady!!!
One urban legend that really scares the hell out of me is the creatures of the Appalachian mountains/ forest !! But I’d love to hear you tell one of those ❤️
Girllllll yes it’s haunted. Born and raised in Metro ATL. my mom grew up going to lake Lanier in the summers. Thankfully she’s still with us. I’ve been multiple times myself before I was old enough to know what goes on. Thank the lort for not letting it take me under. Everyone here knows it’s a death trap. We hear of a new death every few months
First time commenting. Just wanted to say thank you for being the amazing person you are. Having a rough day and this poped uo right before my lunch break so my day was made!
I'm from about 40 minutes away from this lake, I have never been. But even I know "people die at lake lanier". It's just known around here, and the fact that they host gatherings and events despite the multiple drownings and situations that happen there is insane.
Wow this is so crazy. I'm from New Zealand and it's rumored that we have river somewhere here that's haunted and takes children only but I've never been there. I love all your content. your biggest fan from New Zealand 💖
I'm so glad you covered this! I live in Atlanta and I shalln't EVAAAA go to that lake! It's absolutely haunted and creeps me out.... not bc I'm scared of ghost but bc yall not finna pull me under that water!
I moved to Buford area before I started high school, my parents still live 5 minutes from Lake Lanier. I had NO idea about its history under later. We use to sneak out and go party at the lake at night. One time I fell off my best friends boat without a life vest while we were tubbing and I got dragged down about 10 feet before I was able to let go and swim back up. When I told my grandparents what happened that’s when I found out about it’s history. Lake Lanier has always given me a eerie feeling, definitely see why others say it feels like someone’s hands are pulling you down…gives me chills
Georgia girl here! The numbers of death you mentioned are disturbing for sure but they don’t even include the number of people that suddenly die after saving someone from drowning. It’s like the spirits come for you if you get in their way. Idk but whatever is going on at LL won’t have me as a guest. Ever. RIP to Jeremiah who lost his life while saving his father from drowning after he fell from his fishing boat on the infamous lake. 🕊️
She said the full name!!!! Girl I'm not gonna lie listen you have to listen OKAY, my daughter knows I'm in love with you, you're my favorite, you make me laugh my face lights up. That being said we set up our computer and I caught her the other day doing a fake RU-vid video now because she only knows it's about true crime she goes "what's up everybody I'm Brittany Vaughn and we're gonna talk about true crimers” she's 8 her name is vivi. God bless her heart for that I literally couldn't stop laughing when she did that
I appreciate you so much. I also suffer from anxiety and depression. This past year has left me frozen with anxiety and I’m unable to even watch movies or tv show that are new to me. As though new info is too much for me to handle. I have been able to watch your content, however. Something about your voice and definitely the way you speak calms me. I am able to watch other RU-vidrs but I often can imagine your voice saying “he/she was doing all of the things” and it makes me smile. On these days when I’m not useful in any way, I’m able to watch your videos and feel a little better about myself. You remind me so much of my good friends growing up in south Florida. You’re like home. Thank you for all that you do.
I’m a GA native and I love Lake Lanier. It’s so beautiful and there are so many mansions on the lake. I go every summer for swimming and boating. I’ve got a story though: about 25 yrs ago my mom took my three older siblings to Lake Lanier and they were all playing in the water with some other kids. And about an hour later one of the kids they were playing with went missing. And not to long after that his body was seen floating in the water close to where everyone was. When they found his body my mom grab my siblings so fast and got the hell out of there. She was so shocked bc it really could have been one of my siblings. Also in high school one of my classmates downed in Lake Lanier. He was very active and a strong swimmer. It really does seem to be the best swimmers that always drown
I’m from GA and have been here all my life. that lake is haunted af! I’ve only ever been once and I’ll NEVER go back. I didn’t even want to go the one time I did go. I went Memorial Day weekend, it was hot with no wind, but the water was super rough and choppy….NO! Back in 2008 we had a real bad drought and the water receded back so far you could see the old race track from the town that’s under the lake. Folks really get in that water and never come back, divers don’t even want no parts. If you ever visit GA stay away, far away from lake Lanier!
The Queen of Fact or Fiction and Urban Legends!!! I am beyond belief with the effort you put into your videos. This shows that you research and obtain the facts. I love to watch these at home while I am working remote. The bloopers in the end are so funny, it is a nice way to end these stories that can be so dark at times. Thank you.
Ga resident here! My aunt told me when she was in summer camp they used to take trips there to swim and she said she almost drowned. She said it felt like she was getting sucked under but she grabbed someone near by and was helped. I only go there to see the holiday lights with family but it is eerie and every year there’s a new story.

Issg, you always post at the most convenient times.
I live in Georgia and I have always been afraid to go to that lake. I live by lake Allatoona and they have a lot of drownings every year also. I’m not sure why people continue to go to these lakes. You know someone is gonna die every year.
I live about 20 min from Lanier and I don't know anyone who will get near it. The stories I've always heard growing up were that the people in the town didn't all leave, they tried to hide and once the lake was filled a lot of them drowned. I was also always told that most of the Graves were never moved before filling the lake. To add to the fact that there are spirits involved and the trees and building under the water the lake also has a strong undercurrent which is blamed for pulling people under. It's a dangerous place to play with.
Girl I live in Atlanta and I actually work in Buford. Im not native here so last summer I asked my friends if they wanted to go to Lake Lanier and it was a resounding HELLLLL NO!! They didn’t go into detail why, just said there’s a lot of weird stuff going on there…. Needless to say I was so excited to see that my fave brittney is gonna tell the story!
Girl, your voice while you are telling this story has me turning on the lights in my house in the middle of the day and my blinds already open on a sunny day! I found my next RU-vid binge!
I'm a Georgian. Born and raised. Live west up Atlanta close to Cardi B. I remember back in the day (90s) Lake Lanier had a HUGE marketing campaign to get people down there. Tons of commercials, coupons, the works. It's really pretty but I never knew what the hype was all about on the commercials.
I dove into the lake and it felt like I had hit the bottom. I remember thinking, “I just broke my neck”. We had been swimming and diving all day, in really deep water and there was no debris around. 20yrs later I have NEVER dove into a body of water again. I truly believe it tried to kill me.
This was so eerie! I had never heard of this lake even when i look urban legends up for my channel!! Loveeee when you cover urban legends 🖤 i would also like to know if sparkling water counts as part of your daily water intake 😅🤣
I live a hour from Lake Lanier and I've been there for the cabins, firework shows, & a yacht party over the years but you couldn't PAY ME to stick my toes in that water. Lakes are already disgusting (to me) but when I was younger & heard about the town being flooded & all those tragedies, I always felt like that water/land was haunted & tainted. And now you shared some stories I never heard. Luv your channel!!
I’m like she’s doing Lake Lanier!!!!😩🤩🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾I remember the first time I heard this legend was in 8th grade GA history class . Yeah, the powers that be here in GA/ Atlanta say this lake isn’t haunted but um….they’re in denial or 1000% lying
I’m surprised that you didn’t mention that this town was majority Black folk. I add this part bc some ppl say the lake is cursed bc of the way the Black families were forced off their land. I’m from SC and have fam in Atlanta. My aunt would not let us go to that lake chile. Happy Black History Month!
I was surprised it wasn’t mentioned as well bc everything I’ve ever seen or heard about Lake Lanier says that it is the haunted bc this was done to a majority Black town.
It was a black town until 1912 when 2 young black boys were accused of r*ping 2 white girls and killing 1. The whites retaliated against the blacks, forced them all out of that town & took over, 47 years before Lanier.
I've experienced a lot of paranormal activity as a child and GA was the WORST experience for me. Terrifying. To the point where I was unnerved listening to this whole video LOL awesome video as always, Brittney
so 😅 GA here. about 45 from ATL. this has always been an unspoken thing that you just don’t go there. i’ve been once as a young adolescent and it was nothing but insanely creepy vibes. i appreciate you covering this! xoxo 😘
I grew up in Gainesville going to Lake Lanier for cook outs and swimming. Nothing happened to my family, but I remember always the news about deaths or disappearances. I’m glad you covered this topic.
I really like this video. Thank you for it. As a British person, I had never heard of this lake before. Sounds awful. Why do people still bother with it?
Yes. Been to Lake Lanier many times. I was much younger. We would go to the little beach. There was a small children’s train them at would go around the lake. I did not know it was haunted, but now that I think of it… it did have an atmosphere. Sometimes we’d have picnics in the colder months and all the pavilions would be like a ghost town. Thank you for the video.
Sis, let me say I watch a lot of makeup/ "m" word videos and about a week ago I came across you! That me tell you, you're are where it's at! I can't stop watching! I love your attitude, the way you speak and of course the way you tell the stories! You tell them like no other and no I'm not trying to diminish any of the other women I watch I'm just saying you're by far the best! Sis keep doing your Thang because I can't go back to the others! You have a life long fan ❤
I attended two boat parties on Lake Lanier years before I moved here to Atlanta and before I knew what was up w/ Lake Lanier. The water was very active causing the boat to rock a lot. Had a drunken blast both times and made it back safely. But now that I live here, have heard the stories and know better, never again.
