A year and a half ago I thought that this was one of the most confusing tutorial I've come across, but now a few projects and hundreds of tutorial I understand what's going on.
Had just finished watching the first episode of True Crime and was "hooked" by the intro alone,,found your tutorial unintentionally, but delighted I did..liked and subscribed :)
this helped a lot bro!!!! thank you so much! I've been searching for this kind of Double Exposure Effect tutorial for a while, but yours is the most detailed and patient one!
Good and efficient tutorial! There are so many bad ones with slow and dull voice over (and bad audio) so this was a most welcome exception. Subscribed!
camera lens blur is the cause of your render jump. If render time is an issue I usually use fast blur on an adjustment layer that has a feathered mask on it. Great tutorial. Thanks for posting.
the link to get the files is no longer working, do you have them laying around by any chance? I need to do a uni project by this friday and i can't find nice videos very easily
Mikey, I noticed in the Season 2 they have improved the credits look and it`s a lot more complex, still the same double exposure. Could you make another tutorial based on this new version? Much appreciated!
***** ***** Ah yeah I did - www.negativeh.com/almustafatrustcharityad The video was an ad on TV but also was played during a conference and helped raised £80,000 for the charity!
Hi, I'm having issues with the key lighting at 5:15. I just can't seem to get the white and grey boxes. I click the screencolor, but it does nothing. It just stays green! Any help?
hey, love the video super informative and clear.. would the same effect work without a green screen? for example, if I film a portrait of someone with deep harsh shadow and layer the second video or tree in to the shadows ?
Great tutorial! How do you begin to figure out which effects are used to create something like this? Is it just familiarity with all the various effects available?
Hey Mikey, this is a brilliant workshop for AE. Do you have any experience in doing it with Final Cut Pro X? Any hint I would appreciate. Thank you so much.
Hey! Loved the tutorial! Is there a way to make his facial features a bit more prominent? Like where you can see his eyes and mouth? Would I just turn the opacity down on the trees layer? Also how would you go about doing maybe half the face double exposure (Left to Right)? Masks?
Hey @Afer Effects Tutorials w/ Mikey ! Thanks so much for the Tut! really helping me with a work project im currently busy with..Just curious , where can i find trees like that to use in my stock footage? trying to find similar ones that aren't copy right, any ideas? Greatly appreciated!
Great tuttorial Mikey!! I´m having serious problems using keylight, crashes always.. Could you post the project files template itself.. The reason Im asking is because then I could check if some discrepancies is just monitor settings or something minor or if I´m not following propperly .. also to have a chance to find new solutions as well.. thanks a lot I´ve been using preseted tenplates like double exp generator and double exp machine and its allright but doing it freely is really cool also, just the keylight issue is really annoing
This is a great tutorial! But if i use the displacement map, it makes it tinier, so lets say 'aaron'is exact the same size, but the displacementmap is tinier. Can someone help me?
Hi , Mikey I have to say that your tutorials are truly inspirational to me! I want to do something like this for my video class, would a white backdrop work as well?

Hi, this is a very good tutorial. One question: at 7:35 you switch the duplicated, keyed layer to screen matte. I'm using a piece of footage that has been rotoscoped - how do I switch it to screen matte? Thanks!
When I use the pen tool it brings the green screen back and then keys out the area I wanted to crop out ? Really good tutorial BTW nice to see. I am half way through the AE Classroom book and this is much more fun.
I think I was in the wrong view on the timeline. ahh I should've know that mask setting anyway. Thank you for quick reply :)

Hello Mikey, great tutorial and result! I'm planning on using this technique for a project. What would be your recommendation for lighting the subject so that the displacement map is the most effective ? I notice the light on your subject was really on the side, do you think it's important to have high contrast on the subject? Thanks !
I actually decided to do the displacement after I had filmed it. Ideally you will want it to be brightest at the nose, and then fade toward the back. so maybe a light straight on with the front of the face, with a soft fall off. So you will want it to be bright down the middle of the face, and darker around the sides and the ears. Hope that helps.

***** Great, thank you very much, really helpful. Now i need to find a way to light the subject that way, maybe with a low intensity point light very close to it?
I would do a small soft box straight on to the face. Or any kind of diffused light.

***** By the way you said you didn't know exactly how they did the hbo title sequence, very inteersting explanation here : www.artofthetitle.com/title/true-detective/ They did 3d models of some elements, your technique is a bit easier but still good looking :)
