(song only) 21st Century week. James Durbin performance "Uprising" (by Muse). James had a drum corp usher him on stage. Uprising is a song by English rock band Muse, featured on their 5th studio album The Resistance. Written by lead vocalist & guitarist Matthew Bellamy, the song was released as the lead single on 7 September 2009. The song remained at the #1 position on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart for 17 nonconsecutive weeks, & has become the band's most successful song in the U.S.

Come on...it wasn't even the best performance of the night. Haley Reinhart's "Rolling In The Deep" was the best performance of that night. In fact, Adele's "Rolling In The Deep" had already peaked on the charts and was rapidly dropping. When Haley sang the cover of that song that night, Adele's original immediately started rising up the charts again and then chopped the charts for weeks. Meanwhile, a lot of music industry insiders credited Haley's performance that night on American Idol with the resurgence of the song, as American Idol at the time was the most popular show on television in the country. Moreover, when Haley sang the song that night on American Idol, most people had never even heard of Adele yet, then afterwards they looked her up on youtube, listened to her music, and then started buying up her music. So Haley Reinhart is credited for creating a lot of Adele's success here in America.

He was challenged to sing this song because of it's vocal range and he absolutely nailed it! He should have won and even now, I would love to hear a collaboration between him and Adam Lambert. Those boys got pipes!

I love how he drove the show and not let the producers drive him. He had a vision for the entrance, choreography etc and did it. Even seeing this example no other idol contestant had the creativeness or balls to do anything like this since.

I can't believe it's been 10 years since this performance. James' cover is one that easily stuck out to me the most out of all the times I watched the show. His and Adam Lambert's. The note he hits at 1:53 sends chills every time to this day

Yeah this season was very weird.. voting off Casey, James and then leaving the two kids for the finals.. well Scott showed some props but i would have liked seeing Casey and James in the finals.

YEAH! He should have won, this season was so rigged. The only season I've seen, where the winner messed up lyrics and still won. They bent the rules and rigged it, because rock is not popular on this show. He made it this far because lots of people tuned in, Steven Tyler was on too and it brought a wider audience. James is doing awesome today though, he didn't need to win. Most winners on here, fall into obscurity. The non-winners actually become more famous. Plus, he's the new singer of Quiet Riot and is AMAZING!!! I'm so happy for him, he deserves it. Anyone that says different, needs to get their hearing checked.

We know that James and Haley were eliminated from the final that they deserved to be in for Season 10, but they picked Lauren and Scotty instead. James should have won and Haley should have finished second! The true Top 2 are James Durbin and Haley Reinhart.

There was a derogatory article involving James ex-step-father and I think that sabotaged James win. AI was probably afraid to have him as a winner after what he said about a conflict between James and his son. I thought he was terrible for doing that. James was great! James and Adam, my two fav contestants.

James rocked every song/style he sang. I would cringe when I heard the song he picked because it was going to be tough and he nailed them. I was surprised, but he just kept doing an excellent job. There was a reason he was the only AI not in the top 3 to have a homecoming.

James is a true talent.. his dad and my dad were in a band together out of Santa Cruz CA in the late 70's. I don't watch this show but I did and what a shame to see James voted off.. what a HUGE song choice..so risky.. Matthew Bellamy is one of the greatest singer's on the planet.. and James my brotha you nailed that shit.. may god bless you always!

Have been watching Idol since the beginning. There are three performances that really stand out to me. Durbin's Uprising Lambert's Mad World Ledet's It's a Man's World No one in recent years has come close to these three.
