Liked your vid regarding the True Kit 330. Every thing you pointed out was perfect. I have a 6 HP Tohatsu. I cupped the prop and it made a huge difference. Having said that, no worries.
Good video! Very interested to read how lifting the motor a bit made such a difference. I've been looking at a True Kit 330/400 for a while, and water splashing back into the boat from the outboard is an issue often raised by owners. Good setup for carrying the outboard as well. Cheers.
Thanks Keith, as you know all boats are a bit of a compromise in one way or another, the True Kit has a lot going for it to offset the water issue and mine isn’t spraying up over the top but just being forced through the transom drain. I will raise the motor as much as possible and then add a rubber flap to the outside of the drain that lets water flow out but blocks some of the spray coming in. I will post something up again with those changes when completed. Regards Tony
Hi Keith , mine was the same , i raised the motor 75mm and that stopped water splashing back over the transom. your motor may be slightly different.. I am still going to try 85mm and see how that goes.Cheers
Would trimming the motor “in” reduce cavitation? I know on bigger GRP boats with power trim it’s easy to fiddle with trim and the further in the trim the less cavitation, but at the expense of top speed. Trim it out and you get more speed with same throttle setting but turning sharp with power will cause cavitation.
Great video! I have a similar motor trolley but have issues with oil getting into the cylinders and carb when transporting my 4 stroke honda 9.9. Do you have this issue?
Thanks, I haven’t had that issue yet but it could be that when on the trolley, the motor head sits a little higher than horizontal. Maybe you could test it by putting a few bricks under the trolley while it is laying down? Cheers
Hi mate, I think to get the flattest part of the hull to sit flat on the rack it works better. To have it the other way round and then keeping the flat part on the racks you end up with the curved bow further forward. You would then have greater windage pushing up from the bonnet and windscreen onto that overhang. By all means try it the other way round but this worked best for me and I can attest to it working at highway speeds. Cheers
I would love to see a video of the boat being loaded onto the top of the car. Is it just brute strength, a special technique or do you use a pulley system?
Hi Paul, will see what I can do next time I use it. There isn’t much difference to taking it down in the video, they are very light and apart from a bit of technique there is no real strength needed. I have had tinnys and kayaks up there and of all of them the true kit has been the easiest. My roof rack is quite wide so if you only had a standard width you might need to rest the boat against the car with a blanket under it otherwise there is no special boat loader or anything. Cheers
@@Australiais Thanks for your reply. I've had a Discovery 330 for about 18 months now. Until a month ago I lived close enough to the river to be able to wheel it to the water, always ready to go, never had to deflate it - perfect setup. But I'm now a kilometre or two from a ramp and struggling with the idea of deflating/ reinflating it. Also when all packed up it's close to 50kg which is on my lifting limit. So I'm keen to try your mode of transport - new racks going on the ute today - will try it out on the weekend. Thanks for your clip.
@@paulheenan4773 I'm looking at getting the 3.3.. excuse my lack of knowledge .. but if you put the wheels on this is it easy for one person to get it across sand down to the water.. or to heavy with boat, motor x 1 person pulling it along??
So I have raised my 18hp Tohatsu on my 4m discovery. However in rough conditions, which I find myself in a lot, the raised engine cavitates a fair bit even with the hydrofoil. So we have set it at the standard height and just don’t worry about the splash back. Other than that the boat is incredible and rides really well in rough seas.

Get the same problem on mine would of been better with the elephant trunk like on ribs, if you need to bail out drop the trunk simple, not much thought gone in to that
Hi from the UK and a fellow Truekit owner. I have the same engine and boat as you, I raised the engine as you have however in anything but flat water conditions it caused a lot of ventilation. I have since added a hydrofoil which I'm waiting to try when we get some better weather conditions. As for the water splashing through the quick drain transom I've added a piece of perspex which stops the splashing but still allows drainage. Thanks for the information, yes the bracket looks like a good setup. I will try a couple of different setups with themotor height and pending that have designed a more permanent manual jack plate that I will get made up if it proves worthwhile. regards
