This is my first video essay. Pretty rough, so look forward to hearing any feedback.

Thank you very much for this thoughtful and well-researched commentary. I have only read up to Tehanu so far, and I haven't read anything else by Le Guin yet, nor did I pick up a biography or essays to read along the series. I wanted to let the the books of Earthsea speak for themselves first, let me connect with them without the bias of what I thought they should mean, so I had no idea of the Daoist philosophy in them. I had never even been curious about Daoism before! But I thank you very, very much for sharing this. You have awakened my curiosity, made me value even more a series that I am already in love with and helped me reflect on the concepts of the books and what they mean for me. You have helped me question the way I think about life and how I'm living the one that has been given me. Thank you. 😊❤ The editing is great also! But is it just me, or there is an abrupt cut near the end of the video?

@@SchwarzesSchweigen I've thought it over. Time to give this channel another crack with an all-too youtube-y '10 books that changed my life' video. Planning to make it in the next couple of weeks, so as they say on the tubes, stay tuned! I'll definitely talk about Mao II by Don Delillo and Le Guin's 'The Dispossed' too.

I have just finished reading the series of EarthSea. Is there a good book which describe the philopshy behind the series (or behind Urusula's books)?

Thanks for watching! Le Guin's translation of the Dao De Jing was worth a read, and she gives some commentary throughout. My omnibus copy of the Earthsea books also included a number of essays by Le Guin herself discussing the philosophy behind the books, and broader discussions about fantasy as a genre. Worth tracking down, but let me know if you find any interesting references beyond that.
