Great explanation on the Deye inverter and commercial power draw. I’m thinking my system I’ll add master bedroom AC and Master bathroom shower. My thinking is yes the multipoint heater is high usage so yes battery draw is high but it is on such a short time I can easily recharge the batteries and make up the loss. We got a hotel on vacation and it had no hot water I dreaded taking a shower even in May hottest time of the year. I don’t think I want to take it in case of a long term outage. I’m just at the planning stage and love you detailed explanations.
HI U2👋! 8K 👍subscribers!! Prince is adorable 🥰 🐶. Wise choice definitely getting solar where you live. 6-10 years to recoup your $$investment on average. WILMA? No more cooking 🥘 so?? HMMMMM??? Keeps her busy and she is happy 😃 then that’s all that matters 👍. Blessings 🙏🌸🌼🌺
Hi guys. Thanks for the updates on your system. You should probably set a schedule to once a month or every other month exercise your generator. It wil last longer being used and the gas will be kept from going bad, gas only stays good for so long. Adding Stabil or similar product can extend the shelf life of the gas. Everything looking great there.
We as human beings have either forgotten how to or have never learned the concept of improving upon our current monthly expenditures. We have become an all or nothing thinking machine which is so unfortunate. The reality of the situation is that you and Wilma have created a beautiful home which is fully paid for. No HOA drama, with a very small amount of annual property tax unlike in the West. And now you have successfully lowed your monthly electrical bill. You two also have a nice comfortable vehicle, to include a motorbike fully paid for which provides you with the ability to go and come at your own pace. You have beautiful views, a nice swimming pool, an awesome pet in Prince, and a soon to be fully functional, and most enjoyable Bahay Kubo addition. And with plans of installing the gutters and a storage unit in the back all tells a tale of you guys winning in your retirement years. Congrats on doing it right!! 🍻🍻
I have no clue with solar either but your detailed explanation helps me have an idea lol 😊 also I feel that if no sun to charge the system it would be cooler no need to be uncomfortably perspiring you Will be fine till sun charges the system.
Hi Greg Wilma, You have one of the best channels on RU-vid . I'm going to say Wilma is going into real estate in some way and if so I think she will very good at it , Regards Ray
Hi Greg good move to add your ac as well, in the beginning i also had my battles at 20%, however on advice of our expert he say the modern lithium batteries you can set safe to 10%, i did change in many cases on cloudy day it just give sufficient juice till the sun take over and avoid grid or generator usage., basically on your 10kw battery it give you an extra 1 kw for free Keep us posted on updates and congrats on the 8000 subscribers
Hi Guys, Solar system going in as I write. Just watched your video. Must have many different ways to hook these things up. I just got a clarification that our generator will ONLY supply the systems that are not on the "emergency circuit" (brown-out). I told him that was disappointing to hear and he is working with the engineer to get it hooked-up as you described.....which I thought was how it was going to work. Thanks for the in-depth information. take care.
My wife is from Southern Leyte and her guess is "Real Estate Agent", I think that is a good guess and definitely a worthwile persuit. Now back to the video.
Hi, my humble suggestion, get a dual dji mic wireless, is just 15k php and you can get better mic quality and can also connect 2 people for interviews.
Our guess on What is Wilma up to is....Real Estate License. You mentioned not about the house per say, which lead us to this answer. We really enjoy the channel. Love how you all are with Prince. We will eventually have 2 dogs (1 big and 1 small). We are now fully retired and in the Philippines. We came from Florida and now live in Lucban, Quezon province. We will be starting our house build in January. Look forward to going back through your house videos for advise as we do.
hi Greg, did you knew your inverter have a limiter on it, so if you do the net metering they change the settings , and your producing will triple so 10kw to sell daily 😉, another plus is, you don't use the battery so much and the lifespan will be much longer, good luck and think it over
thats expensive I live in Samal island Davao and still busy with net-metering, cost 25K they said, also I have to buy a second meter but I gonna try it anyway, only to save the 4 batteries, hope on no daily cycles, and use the batteries only when evening- brown outs. Good luck and I like your channel very much.
I buy electric at 13 pesos a kilowatt here. I was told they buy back at 5 pesos. That was another reason for me not wanting to net meter. 12 month waiting period as well here in Negros. Hopefully more favorable for you on your island. Thanks for commenting.
I installed a manual transfer switch for the generator. Don't see a time when we will need to use the generator for charging the battery. However, it there just in case, just manual. Thanks for commenting.
Ur solar system is set up with a CT clamp so the inverter is reducing the production af power to what ur using in the house/load , if ur set up with net metering , then ur system will make full production with a surplus of cirka 10-20 kw pr day , the pay into the power company is ur raw generation cost , in Leyte its right now ca 7 pesos per kW
Yes, I see during the day when the battery is charging st higher watts. Once battery is at 100% I see the inverter backs down to match the actual draw.
Hello and nice approach on your solar project. Question on how you moved the two aircon's over to your solar panel from your grid panel...did you pull out the wires and feed them down from the roof to your solar panel?
The net-metering means that you get back the same rate that you pay for the power you buy. If you look at your electric bill, then the rate you pay for power generation is usually about 4.5 to 6 PHP (it varies every month). On top of that there are a lot of added fees for things like transport and metering, which all together roughly doubles the price of what you pay for the electricity that you use from the grid.
45k application fee and when there's a power failure, you also have no electric. That's the main reason why we went with a hybrid system with battery. We don't want power failures.
She is still here, outside the property, like she has been since the beginning. Remember we kept her outside the property once she dug up Wilmas garden many months ago when we first moved in.
Greg and Wilma. This is a personal question. May i ask if you retire early? Do you recommend to retire at 65 or 67? The company's retirement age now is 67.
That is different for everyone. Has a lot to do with your finances. I retired at 54, as I spent a decade preparing. Bottom line if you can afford to retire financially why not, enjoy life to its fullest.
Hi Wilma and Greg. I might have missed on your previous vlog the name or company that build your house. I am coming to Dumaguete and am thinking of building a house near the beach.
Very interesting and informative video. Looks like you've thought everything through very carefully. Just wondering if the house voltage is unstable when you are only using that generator?
@@buildingthephilippines maybe you can set it up so the generator charges the batteries thru the rectifier and that should give you "clean" voltage going from batteries to house and the "dirty" voltage shouldnt hurt the batteries
Thanks for this very informative video. It started out slow but I persevered and it was worth it 😁 I just had a third party convert (including solar with 200 Ah batteries) my van here in CA and am now looking to put solar on my house here - maybe Philippines in the future. I'm still confused as to why you wouldn't put all the load (including spare rooms A/Cs) on the solar system as you don't need to turn them on if you need to save power for any reason? And why pay electric bill when you do turn them on if you have excess solar power available at most times? No need to answer - I'm just wondering - maybe catch you for a coffee in Dumaguete some day on my next visit early 2024 - I expect I'll be mostly in Cebu but will visit Duma again.
@@buildingthephilippines Got it thanks. And presumably the extra cost of higher-rated inverter was deemed not worthwhile as cheaper to pay an occasional/small electricity bill.
I'm laughing at all the comments but in a good way ! Emergency power is for essential back up only which you have established and a great job by the way. Unless you want to go totally off the grid , which is very expensive to achieve, there will always be utility costs . Batteries are very expensive and need constant maintenance. So i think you have achieved with your solar what you wanted to do ! Great job!
i was wonderingi f it is possible to have the solar inverter output 120v to a separate breaker box so you can run 120v outlets for you american appliances ? and another 240 breaker box ( like you have it) versus using a transformer for the appliances
Hello Wilma and Greg. I’m new subscriber and really enjoy your channel . Particularly videos on your home build and solar panel addition. In many ways my partner and I are going thru the same process when you started. We are in process of exploring other areas in Philippines to build a permanent home. We reside in tacloban but looking at alternative locations. I recently moved to PH from Texas and she is from Leyte. Would it be possible to connect with you guys thru private messaging to ask questions? We would really appreciate it. Thanks Mark
IF I had to guess what Wilma is doing..... I'd says: 1. Learning to drive and get her permit in the philippines.. (Because we never hear or see her drive. ) OR 2. Getting her real-estate licence, to help develop the area up in Dauin.. .. 🙂
Two good guesses. Wilma has had her driver's license for over 25 years. She always had her own vehicle in the US. No real estate license either, that's considered work. No more working for us.
Hi! Wilma & Greg, I'm new in Solar Power System & interested to know which company had installed your Home Solar Power System? How can I privately message you? That's why we just posted these questions here: If I correctly understood your Solar Power System, is it hybrid? : meaning > you have the control when to switch on to solar power source, as "off-grid" & when it is just from normal electricity power/bills. (But defintely, yours is not "Solar On-Grid"?) I like your Charge Controller: Does it automatically switching on to normal electric power when the batteries' minimum charges have reached? ( to avoid spoiling also of batteries. ) Thank you in advance for your kind reply.
Yes, PM me at building the philippines. We have a hybrid inverter that has an ATS switch. Switches back and forth automatically if needed. If we drop to 30% battery bank, the ATS switch goes over to grid power.
Solar handles all loads, except our hot water heater. All ACs are now hooked to solar. Solar handles everything (except water heater). If battery ever gets to 30%, system automatically switches to grid. Lowest we ever got down to was like 50% of battery life. Water heaters is directly to grid.
I didn’t know that it costs $900 to apply for the electricity credit. That’s ridiculous. Is that because they really don’t want people to sign up for it? Does your excess electricity go back to them anyway?
AC is now switched over to solar. System is making a lot more power than we expected. Just water heater on grid. Could install another battery, but they are 150k each. Pretty expensive.
For your viewers, if it is wired up properly its called a critical loads, or essential loads panel, depending on where you are. Ok this is a bit confusing, or maybe just your explanation. Are you saying that the utility cannot run the entire house if necessary? You stated that you have one main for each panel, and that the Meralco panel is not connected to the right side or solar electric panel, that they are standalone. Normally a system is wired where all loads can run off the utility, and in a grid down, the solar will only run the critical loads panel. If you are not able to run the entire house off the utility why did you do that?
Everything can/will run off the grid if battery reaches 30% of charge. I have Everything hooked to solar, except the 2 hot water heaters that use 10,000 by themselves.
Since your producing so much excess power, why don't you increase your battery storage, so that you only need to recharge your batteries ever other day, thus decreasing your recharge cycles by 50% and doubling your battery life by 100%.
Greg is right the batteries are expensive and just using at 50% does not double your battery life. The batteries need to cycle to be efficient the key is to not drop below 20% and truth be known only charge to 80% gets you your maximum battery life. However even when your LiPro batteries are not performing at best say 8 to 10 years they still work at 80% so you don’t have to run out and replace them. I had the T brand with 2 PW in Florida. I require 2 because in the US (110 systems) you need two to create a whole house (220 volt) system. Greg’s right what works in PH is much different not better or worse just different from USA
