I’m glad you addressed the processor.. I had assumed it was used based on being “enough” for the job and at a good price point.

Sadly, iX by not using a Ryzen mobile processor that is using as much power that this weak Intel Atom cpu, a lot or "ommph" is missing on the system.

It is just a Supermicro system in a chassis. Not bad, but I've previously copied all of their system specs and got the price down to 20% their price with a larger chassis. This was about 6 months ago. With iX, you get Support though.

Tom, another awesome video instalment. Any possibility of a quick video showing how, with the addition of some new drives into a TrueNAS enclosure, you can quickly scale up the storage pools? The OoB mgmt with this was also fantastic. Exactly what is needed for those remote sites. Thank you sir

The problem I have with raid systems is what happens when the place where the os is stored do you lose your raid or if you are able to swap the drives to a similar system can it see it all does it need to rebuild? What happens?

I was just watching a video on truenas transfer speeds being effected by which ZFS array you are using and apparently mirror is the way to go. It gets the most amount of write and reads due to the most a,ount of Hdd/Ssds writing at the same time.

Loving the new intro! Something I’ve been noticing in your videos lately is the drop in framerate on your A Roll every now and then. I’m guessing you’re using a capture card to record the video from the camera. Could be something to look into why it’s dropping so many frames. It’s quite distracting

2:10 Such a nice enclosure for home lab. Would be ideal if they would have the option of just barebones enclosure (no motherboard) even. @Lawrence System Tom, do please try to convince iXsystems. Called them and asked and was told they will pass the message along. Thanks much.

if you diy you save thousands - the other side of the equation - you can still leverage all the open source goodies and have enough left over in many cases to build redundant systems which is something clients with firewalls should learn - down time is costly and everything fails, ha is cheap insurance

This cpu is 5 years old 14nm node chip. It's antique and they should really not use it anymore. It's slow and power hungry compared to current generation. Also the price is horrible for what it provides. For a lesser budget I recently built a 128GB DDR4 ECC, Ryzen 7 5750G, 128TB HDD + 4x Octane 280GB 900P (metadata), QSFP+ system which is pretty much 0db from a 1 meter distance. Likely 4x the performance in most situations.
@tupui
@tupui Год назад
Nice! Did you make a post on TrueNAS' forum or elsewhere? Also +1000... I also made a system costing less than that based on a x11 MB which is faaaaaar better than this. Only advantage I see with that is the 0 conf, day 1 production readiness, support. If you are willing to put your hands in the thing, this is not worth it at all.
@MirceaPrunaru

I can build a damn pc that costs 100-200$ and have the same specs as what truenas offers for 1k $ on the website with the mini series ( without hard drives).

@MirceaPrunaru

@@tupui Wait what? For real they deleted the comment?!.
@tupui
@tupui Год назад
@@MirceaPrunaru I posted twice my comment and I don't see it here. And since you've seen this one now, I am almost certain they did that. A bit sad because I was just giving the ref of the motherboard used in this system (which we see in the video) and giving alternative options like a x11 board (as I did on my system). I even said this was an ok option for someone who is looking for on the shelf option. (I was not dumping at all, even though this is a joke for real. The CPU is laughable and the MB is... well let's just say for that price you can have something, from Supermicro, which is waaaaay up there with more PCI, a real socket, more RAM option. Like a x11 if you want to stay cheap. But going x12 you would have a IPMI from this century.) Really disappointed here... I discovered this channel recently and it seemed to go in details etc. Seems like it's not really the case for hardware at least.

@BMcC78 Год назад
Just another RU-vidr cashing in because sheeple will pay to wear their advertising. Tom should be paying fans to wear the shirts for advertising. You're promoting the channel, thus getting possible extra viewers and as such feeding into their sponsor and advertiser payments.
@everyhandletaken
@everyhandletaken Год назад
@@BMcC78 well, you are not paying, so it doesn’t impact you, does it?. Buying merch is supporting the channel & ensuring we have videos that are not filled with promotions & paid sponsorship shoutouts. Again, products in the US are much cheaper than many other parts of the world, as that is cheap for a t-shirt & how much do brand names charge, when they are paying the least of all for manufacturing.. ? (More than $25) Not sure why you are getting worked up about it.. there are plenty of other channels to watch, if you want to boycott because of merch prices on this one.
@BMcC78
@BMcC78 Год назад
@@everyhandletaken Go ahead and buy an overpriced t-shirt from a channel that is advertising for a business with sponsored links. I'm not upset. I just commented that the price is ridiculous, as I won't pay to advertise for a company.
