Truetone Lounge Rick Holmstrom 

This guy is one of the best blues guitarists playing today. He can swing or do shuffles with the best of them, but the most impressive thing about him is his tremedous grasp of what is essential. He pares it all down to that, and then plays it with style and authority. Watch him on stage with other greats - he can play less, but it's so much more.

Rick is really great and a super nice guy. He got me Fender decals for the custom strat neck I had made. I met him when he was with Rod Piazza and the Mighty Flyers. Great interview.

I used to work at Carruthers and Rick used to come in when those girls were babies. I did the set up on the green Stratotone. Before Rick drove the price up.It was always a pleasure to see Rick come in with his little girls. One in his arms and one running around like crazy. Time flys.

Zac, Thank you a great interview. I listed and watched Rick a few days ago on The Amazing Mavis Staples video. He is such a great player and another "Telemaster." Pops Jr. as she called him.

Great interview. I loved seeing Rick play with Mavis on the video stream of Hardly/Strictly this past Sunday. And I remember seeing Steve Samuels at blues jams I would attend at the UC Davis Coffee House back in the early '70s. Thanks Zac!

I worked for a brief time at a Guitar Center store on the South side of Chicago in '94. My boss told me that Pop Staples was coming in to pick up a Strat later that day that Fender was giving him. Pops asked if he could have a pearloid guard installed and one of the guys was working on that to get it done before he got there. As I recall, he looked it over, plugged in and played for only a brief time ( in a non tremolo amp) and seemed pleased. I asked for an autograph and he obliged. Later that day, Billy Boy Arnold came in. How lucky was I? I recognized him right away because at that time he was making a pretty strong comeback. I got his autograph as well. Back then you had to write down a SKU number on a little spiral bound notebook to check a price at the computer. I got both autographs on pages of that notebook and I have them framed and hanging a wall in my music room.

I've owned far too many vintage and boutique amps, and the lowly current-production Vox Custom series AC30 and AC15 are my favorite amps. Also, the Icarus boost is from Caroline Guitar Company.

Rick is largely unheralded but he plays guitar the way it's supposed to be played. Feel, touch, no bs "shredding" and soulful as hell. I think Mavis would agree. Catch him live if you can.

When Rick talkes about the Vox Ac15 reissue, does he mean the CI model or the HW1 point to point wired model. Great interview, as are all the others you do!

That was a great interview. He didn't mention if he had to tap into that other envelope when he bought that Tele.....

I really enjoyed the interview with Rick, Big fan of his music. I would suggest you figure out how to do a split screen with the guest as many of the other YT interviewers are doing. The jumping back and forth is kind of annoying.
