I haven't asked for your belief. If you just think about what I've said for a moment, you'll see it's a truism. Trust is something you earn with others' experience of you. If people know you well enough to trust you, you don't need to say "trust me" or "believe me" because you know they do, and if they don't, saying it isn't going to make them. But nobody ever has any reason to trust or believe strangers, so saying it to a stranger is an exercise in absurdity.
