I hate the signs as well, however I think there’s a lot of people on the fence who will watch the debate and could be influenced pretty strongly by the results. But ya the signs gotta go, waste of time, money and resources.

Signs are about name recognition, that's the main basis to winning an election. How is this difficult? Who is your local dog catcher. You all generally don't know because they dont spend or raise a lot of money and don't make a lot of signs.
