@@nobodyz2311 you can't have a lockdown and an economy. It's either one or the other. Trump resisted doing a full, martial law style lockdown at a national level, like in Europe, for the sake of minimizing the negative economic impact. Leftist media accused him of caring about money more than human lives. Even recently, when he announced a new task force to open up the economy he was attacked again for being reckless and only caring about the economy rather than people. If we would have had a full national lockdown, there would have been even more jobs lost. I have family in Western and Eastern Europe, and the economic impact of the virus there is much worse. In the US at least restaurants were still kept open and many stores that in Europe are considered "non essential" still functioned to some extent. Many people are still on a payroll, working from home, as their jobs permit. The cool thing in the US is that some states that had less infections had more flexibility in how much to close down. So, whatever Trump does is wrong. If he shuts down the country, he doesn't care about the economy. If he opens things up, he doesn't care about human lives.

Jonathan Hurst have you seen just how much the death rate has increased in all other areas of health. Do you have any idea of the number of people that have now got untreatable cancer because they have not been to the doctors. When the economy collapses, which it will over the course of the next 2 year what knock on effect will that have on the health system and people dying of poverty.

I think the key thing to note here is Covid was much more transmissible than SARS or H1N1. Any delay in response is going to be amplified by that. In SARS' case, the Chinese response was much more swift. You can compound it even further by open borders and a delay on a global level to halt the spread. Royally, across the board, all nations are accountable for this clusterfuck.

The media have a persistent rhetoric but most normal people see it objectively (UK) China tried blaming Italy at one point btw, which is part of Europe and also tried blaming the US so that's not correct.
