Japan has blocked American products from their shores with big tariffs for decades. Force them to drop theirs and American products can compete.

Should be more. Increasing tariffs levels the playing field for the cost of regulations in the US. When it becomes cheaper to produce things in the US, more companies will invest and more Americans can have high paying jobs that will make everything affordable and make our economy and tax revenue more stable.
