Thing is, I am not totally sure what the defense attacking Daniels is supposed to accomplish. After all, the trial is about whether Trump paid her to stay silent to further a secondary crime... That doesn't seem to depend on the truth or falsehood of Daniels story. Daniels may very well be lying for all I know. Even if she did that doesn't change what Trump did.

Exactly. There's already a ton of evidence (even audio recordings) that seem to show the only thing Trump cared about was paying her off UP TO the Election (and not after). He even wanted to try to trick her into not being paid till after the Election, in which case he won, he would just not pay her. It's all pretty clearly laid out already. Stormy and Cohen are just icing on the cake.

It isn’t strange at all. They wanted to make it look like it was for services rendered to the company by a lawyer. If he pays through a personal Account, it’s so much easier to trace the payment back to him personally. He has to account for personal contributions to his campaign. He has to publicly report that. If he doesn’t, it’s a violation of campaign finance law. Much better to wash it through the business and make it look like services rendered to the company. It also enables arguments that he was insulated from it. It’s easier to argue that he just signed the checks and didn’t know what they were for.
