I am the mother of a child who suffered from many emotional difficulties. We witnessed him completely shutting down when he could noy handle situations. I can't see Donald Trump. I am not his mother or his therapist, but knowing how fragile his ego is, could this be what we are seeing? Could he just be shutting down and mentally removing himself from a situation his ego cannot deal with?

My take on this is that someone in the Trump camp thought that if he could show the jury that he has no concerns about anything that Michael Cohen might have to say on the stand, then maybe this will give them (members of the jury) cause to doubt the testimony that they're hearing. They want Trump's demeanour to be a reflection of how little he cares about the things that Cohen is saying on the stand. And to this end, they came up with this idea that Trump will act as though he's totally bored with what's going on in the court room. So bored that he drifts off to sleep right in front of the jury. For their part, his lawyers are also playing up to this by occasionally giving him a prod or giving him something else to focus on, if only not to pay any heed to what Cohen is saying.
