In this alternative and increasingly dystopian _Alice in Wonderland_ America-according-to-Trumpspeak, we have in that statement, unwittingly on his part, an extraordinary and painfully tragicomic distillation of Trumpspeak upside-down truth : 4% of the world's population. 25% of the world's covid cases and deaths. _"We're the best_ 😍😍. _Yeah!!!"_

His sympathy towards an alleged sex trafficker Vs his obvious distaste for a beloved Civil Rights icon serve as two windows to his soul ... such a bottomless pit

He didn't wish it, he took out several full page ads in the paper and outright demanded their deaths and to this day has refused to apologize for it. "I wish her well" is clearly code for "stay quiet and I'll get you out" since he is most likely one of her clients and doesn't want her talking (and another "oh the cameras stopped working, his cellmate was gone and the guards went missing so he hanged himself" accident would be much to suspicious)
@@blackgold63 She won't, its a little hard to claim a second set of several screwups just happened to coincide on the same day leading to the suicide of another high profile suspect in the same case. Jonathon Swan should receive some type of accolade or award for this interview. He utterly, completely dismantled trump using his own childish logic with calm precision, refusing to play his predictable games. Well done, sir, well done.
Swan's Australian. In Australia, we get political interviews of this quality pretty much daily. As an Australian, it's endlessly frustrating to see how easy it has been for Trump to evade such scrutiny. And I don't think Australia is the outlier here. From what I've seen, the same goes for pretty much every other developed democracy. It's the US that's the odd one out. While the US has some excellent journalists, it's possible for a President to avoid ever being interviewed by them to a degree that's just unthinkable to outsiders.
@@jk177717 ~ Your points are valid and as an American that consumes alot of political media from other countries it is an embarrassing situation I have watched unfold here for the last three years.
The sad thing is the questions weren't even especially tough. Trump is just so used to a sycophantic toadying "press" who don't dare ask difficult questions for fer of losing access to the white house that he doesn't know how to answer the questions of a person he can't threaten into submission. There's a lesson here for people who hold power. Never surround yourself with yes-men and butt-kissers. You'll be left ill-equipped to deal with any real crisis if you do.
I am amazed that America have no real journalists left. Joseph Pulitzer is weeping in his grave. Unbiased journalism is almost entirely dead in the once great country of America.
My Father in Law is a Trump supporter. We ask him, “Did you hear what Trump said about..(insert asinine thing he has said)”. My FIL replies, “Oh no, I never listen to him. I get the cliff notes from Fox News.” He wants it “filtered” through Fox News! When we tell him what he actually said, he says “Fake News!” He refuses to listen to/watch actual video. He says he can’t trust anything the other outlets put out because they doctor video and manipulate audio.
It completely confuses him though. He gets stuck on seeing facts only in a warped vague way. He doesn't have the capability of comparing graphs presented in different ways and then reasoning out the information to make a logical point.
David Muirs interview was pretty good, but he wasn't pushing hard enough. This guy was great. Not saying Muir was bad, just that he kind of gave up in speaking to an idiot, which is also good on Muir xD
I like this guy (Jonathan Swan) too and I hope we hear a lot more from him, but I do wonder, what politician would be brave enough to sit down to an interview with him after seeing him call Trump out like this? Almost all politicians would be terrified of this.

it's not rocket science if you have read a psychology book to make a narcissist show what they are. The press are uneducated to have taken this long for one of them to get to this point.
@@krusher74 I don't think it's a matter of their being uneducated...I think in some cases it has to do with CONTROL, and fear of losing prestige or losing a job. I've seen a lot of interviews of Trump, and there were so, so many questions that I often felt SHOULD'VE been asked of him in the interviews... OBVIOUS and NECESSARY questions that would've made Trump trip over his own tongue, and expose himself as being either hypocritical, self-contradictory or grossly incompetent, but those kinds of questions are usually NEVER asked. That frustrated the hell out of me as an American citizen. Making the President look foolish in front of the world would no-doubt be a fireable offense; probably get you locked out of future press briefings, banned from the White House and/or vilified over social media... not to mention you'll be a prominent subject of Trump's Twitter rants! IF you fear facing ANY of what I mentioned above (and they KNOW you are), you will be like putty in their hands. Once an Enemy knows your fear, you can be CONTROLLED by that fear. This interview looks as if Mr. Swan had NO concerns that would've made him bite his tongue. I like that...a LOT!😊 Let's see if he suffers from any ramifications over this.
@@loveinspired7 yes i agree with you, the USA press has their hands tied if they want to keep their jobs, and that is the end or real journalism. The term "fake news" has ruined truth in your country forever.

At this point I've had to accept that his supporters really are inconceivably stupid, evil, or both because they can watch these interviews and still feel proud to support Donald the Douche 100%
He doesn't really care. Neither do most of his supporters. Unless it personally impacts them or their loved ones they don't care. He just wants to win, he just wants to be powerful and if Americans die of Covid then...he will always blame someone else. Nevermind that he said multiple times prior to being elected that the President has ultimate responsibility for his citizens...and criticized Obama's leadership at every opportunity. Other countries dealt with this better, we know it originated in China, we know they handled it badly. But the rest of the world has had stark differences in response. He's now trying to push the narrative that other countries are having new surges...and while that is true, most are not as high as the US surge that began over 2 months ago. He brings up China, who topped 100 cases on more than one day and acted fast to contain it. Australia... daily triple figure case rises, have put into place strict local lockdowns. As have Spain...the UK rapidly locked down a major city after a spike in cases, so quickly in fact that the locals had virtually no warning.
It takes a reporter who has lived outside America to do an actual real interview with Trump with challenging questions and willing to go beyond rhetoric. The saddest part is this Australian-American, who has lived in the U.S. for less than a decade, knows more about the American system than the damn American president! Look at the confusion on Swan's face at 5:31 - that is the look the rest of the world has every day with the stuff Trump says.
So true. First decent interview where a reporter actually asks critical questions, too bad it comes four years too late.. American News reporters are a disgrace and embarrassment.
Homemadegameguru That look at 5:31 is also the look many of us right here in the US have every day listening to the garbage that comes out of that little anus trump calls a mouth.
Yeh we definitely need more like Swan. Trump had to work really hard to get through that, and he totally cocked it up. Shuffling those papers was like watching a child in kindergarten handing the teacher a crayon drawing. Enough already!
Big problem is, this is a textbook recipe on how to not get any more interviews with important government officials. Sure, if everyone did it, the world would be a better place. But if some do it, and some don't, politicians will become very conscious about which interviews they accept. And the difficult reporters will find themselves unable to do their job.
I agree. The thing is, he usually doesn't grant such interviews, I'm very surprised he did this one. Often it's just Fox News interviews with really softball questions.
MasterHigure At least this interview will be remembered in what is otherwise a sea of inconsequential interviews. I didn’t know or care who Swan was before this but you can be sure I took notice now. With a bit of luck the ball will soon be set in motion and there’ll be no hiding from the ridicule that is rightly his. But yes there is every chance that this will restrict further interviews. To be entirely honest I’m impressed someone didn’t step in and pull the plug on that interview.

So strange everyone is having this reaction. This is standard journalism in Australia. Even on the state-run news channel here almost every night there is a high-ranking government official being held accountable by journalists. There is even a show once per week on that channel where members of the public can ask politicians questions and have them answer live on TV.
@@gavwah I mean Australian media is way better than US media but it's not even close to perfect. 70% of media traffic in Australia is controlled by Rupert Murdoch which means it has a massive right wing bias. As a result they tend to give conservatives and easier pass and either barely communicate with left wingers or do anything other than talk about policy with them.
@@gavwah You Ausies have elections right! Everyone MUST vote there, while here in the US the Republican Party actively disenfranchises people of color ALL THE TIME. Often, they do voter purges right before an election so that the voters who get "culled" don't even have time to re-register before the election! They use a Republican (Kris Kobach) created program called "Interstate Crosscheck" to find duplicate names on the voting roles. This causes people with the same name to be culled. It's especially hard on ethnic names. I mean, think about how many people in Texas or Florida might be called Juan Jose Gonzales. It could be HUNDREDS all across the state, all different ages, and they will STILL cull them all. If the newly disenfranchised former voters are lucky they actually notice the nondescript white postcard with a couple of lines of uninteresting plain, black text on one side that tells them they've been dropped from the voter registry. The most maddening part of it is that Republicans think this is good. They don't like little D democracy because they lose if there is fairness across the board. They can't win without gerrymandering, voter disenfranchisement and outright cheating, and they all KNOW IT. As LBJ (Democratic POTUS #37) once said, "If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you." That is the Republican "Southern Strategy" in a nutshell. Republicans can claim not to be racist from now until the end of time, but it doesn't make their racism any less blatant and obvious to the rest of us.

Thought the interview was hilarious. But one thing that’s driving me crazy is everyone claiming the US is still behind other countries in testing. This simply is not the case. As of Aug 4, the US has one of the highest testing rates in the world, by actual numbers and per capita. 174 per 100k, according to Johns Hopkins. It’s much lower in other countries. HOWEVER, positivity rates in the US remain substantially higher than other developed countries. It’s a critical distinction.
