Dr. Jordan B. Peterson sits down with author and journalist Matt Taibbi. They discuss his early career both in journalism and professional basketball, his time in the U.S.S.R. learning Russian and publishing a successful gonzo-inspired newspaper, and his breaking coverage of the subprime mortgage bubble. They also examine the state of the world today with Russia and the U.S. military industrial complex, the upcoming presidential election, and the dire necessity for alternative news sources.
Matt Taibbi is an award-winning investigative reporter and one of America’s more recognizable literary voices. In 2002, Taibbi began work as a contributing editor for Rolling Stone. There he won the National Magazine Award for commentary. He is best known for his coverage of four presidential campaigns, of the 2008 financial crisis, and the criminal justice system. He has written ten books, including four New York Times bestsellers: The Great Derangement, Griftopia, The Divide, and Insane Clown President. His book, I Can’t Breathe, about the police killing of Eric Garner, was named one of the year’s ten best books by the Washington Post. His latest book about media division, Hate Inc., has been hailed by everyone from Joe Rogan to Publishers Weekly, and called “The best explanation of media behavior since Manufacturing Consent” by Glenn Greenwald.
Dr. Peterson's extensive catalog is available now on DailyWire+: bit.ly/3KrWbS8

You remember when he reported on the NY state gaming commission and that they were gonna regulate wall street the same as they do casino's? That was breath taking to know and that the power structure stopped them and shut it down, almost forcing the 2008 meltdown.

That’s great, Glenn Greenwald- it’s like the comments here are predictive AI, I was about to make the same point about Glenn Greenwald and then found someone else did and then another. Whitney Webb is pretty interesting, although she mentioned Jordan in A less than favorable context just kind of a side comment grouping him in with kind of more far right people… A common misperception that I realize I had until I actually started listening to him speak rather than soundbites of him saying some thing that could be perceived out of context as being extreme. I think Tybee and Peterson have very similar motivation, to basically look at what’s being presented and filter out all thisthe rubbish And essentially tell the truth as they see through their filter… So it’s not surprising that they would be fairly aligned. I thought it was great when I saw that there was a Peterson Taibbi interview, because they are perceived as being polar opposites on the political spectrum… Taibbi Brent being a Bernie (that is a Bernie as he presented himself back in 2016)-And Peterson being seen as an ultra conservative.

@@hail9814 It implies that the State is naturally corrupt. In this case, they could no longer bribe the low level people because the state was actively taking down dissent. A higher level of corruption. But fundamentally, it implies that governments are naturally corrupt and that the only metric is the magnitude of corruption.
@Christopher-iv6sn
@Christopher-iv6sn 7 месяцев назад
@@euphegenia I wouldn’t speak for Matt or Jordan, but I’ll take a stab at this one. If there is absolutely no ability for people to bribe a government, then that would imply one of two things. Either the government is absolutely benevolent and therefore incorruptible, or the government is so strongly ideological and set in its goals, which are not benevolent, or in the public’s best interest, that it is impossible to steer them off course regardless of reason. There are countries where you need to bribe the government in order to not be persecuted by the government. That is theoretically a better situation than the second option above where the government would persecute you absolutely, absent any ability for people to “buy their freedom”. We’d love to believe that a government only has our best interests at heart, but I don’t believe many people, if any, would make that claim. The conclusion to draw from this would be that at least some corruption is actually signs of a healthier government since no government is devoid of its own interests divorced from the public’s desires. If a government claims there is no corruption, they are claiming that either they are the perfect institution that only exists in fantasy, or that they are entirely corrupt to the point that they are unswayable, even by their own citizens. I hope this sparks some ideas for you. Thank you for reading, and have a great day! - a random Canadian
@designbuild7128
@designbuild7128 7 месяцев назад
@@euphegenia It could be seen that bribery is low-level (peanuts) corruption where there is a presence of ethical leadership, but quid pro quos behind the scenes. If bribery is no longer the lever, then it could mean that the governmental forces are fully corrupted, no longer subject to criticism or competition in their own eyes. They own you, get reelected without challenge, lead the "chattel" class by fiat with no apologies or hiddeness, and don't have to provide options to get to your money any longer.

Maybe you are listening to the wrong people if the things they present are nearly impossible to comprehend. JBP and politics is like oil and water. And this guy is supposed to be somewhat clear sighted?! I think those benzos did a number on his limbic system and he is so afraid of the final part of his life. Yes, he too is mortal and will walk the same path. So I get that he is on this mental journey to stave off his anxiety but is it useful to frighten a whole horde of undereducated men to try to live some heroes journey like immature boys imagine? It's all well and good to be the best you and help others. But he hardly even plays those cards anymore. It's just moralizing now. Heck, it's even in the video title. He lost it when he fought the windmills in 2016 with the bill C-16. And since then, his followers have lent him the courtesy of telling the emperor how fine his "clothes" are...

Very well worded. However, anyone who has taken the time to listen to Dr. Peterson in many podcasts and lectures, at length, would strongly disagree with you. Your comment is covered in disdain. Based on your comment, your opinion is based on that of other pessimistic people, not anyone who actually cared what was uttered from the horses mouth. No Dr. Peterson isn't always 100% correct, he's not God. Neither was Einstein. But he is a damn good man and one of the greatest minds of our lifetime. He is worthy and has earned the respect of his fan base and most others that are actually willing to listen.

As a Torontonian who thought Jordan Peterson displayed a unique set of talents in occasional guest appearances on TVO's The Agenda, long before this crazy international fame exploded over his head, and as a retired reference librarian with longstanding interest in freedom of speech issues and the health of the information commons, who's read Hate Inc. and is a great admirer of Matt Taibbi, I found this interview an extra-special treat. It's nice to know Matt likes Toronto. Torontonians who subscribe to Racket News probably like him right back, and it's possible this interview will significantly enlarge the set size of people in that category.

The "Stop and frisk" policy was interesting, the idea that fighting minor crimes leads to a reduction in serious crimes is more than an idea, it is a simple fact. Years ago I moved to Japan, where police don't need probable cause to stop and search anyone. Racial profiling is legal in Japan, and aggressively practiced. Since even minor crimes in Japan are severely punished (and Japan does not release or allow to bail out people who have been charged with an offense while they await trial), crime of all kinds is rare. The effect of racial profiling is that non-Japanese commit even fewer crimes than native Japanese, as non-Japanese are stopped more often than the locals, and the consequences of their breaking the law are heavier.
@kevintse2870
@kevintse2870 7 месяцев назад
They also have extreme gun control laws and an extremely capable police force that does their job with barely ever killing anyone.
@jpguthrie6669
@jpguthrie6669 7 месяцев назад
@@kevintse2870 Hundreds of thousands of Japanese own guns. Getting a gun license is about as hard as getting a drivers license. Japanese police rarely have to kill anyone because so few people break the law. And with all people carefully tracked, and no illegal immigration, you might run, but you certainly can't hide. And as most Japanese come from two-parent households who teach their kids how to behave, and go to schools which teach knowledge and not social activism, when confronted by the police, they do what they were taught by their families and schools, to obey and respect parental and lawful authority. If people were born responsible and respectful of one another and each other's property, we wouldn't need police or a system of laws to protect society. But since people are born wild, and some are raised wild, we need a system to protect the responsible from the irresponsible, and that comes in the form of a criminal justice system. When there are no consequences for irresponsible behavior, everyone will, necessarily, become irresponsible, and chaos ensues. We don't have to look very far to see this.
