Does the Supreme Court not understand that if a President is above the law that they are irrelavent?

Trump isn't arguing he's innocent. He's arguing he has the right to be a criminal.

I wish I could feel optimistic about the verdict. I don’t trust SCOTUS.

Presidents should NOT be allowed to break federal law in or out of office!

I have zero confidence in the SCOTUS. None.

It is absolutely disgusting that such an idiotic argument can make it to the courts.

There is no way the Supreme Court should have taken this case.

This guy is reaching for straws anywhere. He can because he knows that he's guilty of trying to overthrow this government. He has to be held accountable for the sake of this nation.

We elect a president, not a temporary monarch; his job is to "see to it that the law is followed." No, he cannot ever br supreme or above the law.

The reason we are facing this appeal is because Trump represents an awful character that nobody anticipated would ever rise to the high office of POTUS. However, SCOTUS has to consider this appalling individual's belief that he is above the law and rule on it. So even the pro-Trump jutices will have to hold their noses and not support the appeal.

Any time he wants to, His Repugnancy can exercise his Constitutional Privilege to immediately stop each of the trials he's facing with five simple words... 'Your Honor, I plead guilty'

I'm predicting The Supreme Court have taken this delay to give them time to manipulate the wording and come up with a word salad in Trump's favor on his immunity case when they make their decision. Same as they did for the disqualification case.

You’d think citizens elevated to high government positions should be held to higher standards than everyone else, not no standards at all.

Harry Litman is desperately needed with this Supreme Court. He's brilliant, thorough, unique. I see the immunity case differently from the way I thought of it before. Mark Elias0l Elias is excellent, as always.

I was a CO at a DOC in California. To work there I had to go through extensive physical and psychological testing. It was important to know that I could not be corrupted and be able to make fast and appropriate decisions. We need a set of standards that a presidential candidate must meet before he or she can even be on the ballot.

Biden needs to comment on this, saying something like “We are about to find out whether or not I can get away with asking Seal Team 6 to take out any Supreme Court Justices I disagree with”.

Litman's enthusiasm and excitement at being on the program is evident, and contagious!

I am shocked this discussion isn't simply presuming the conservative members of SCOTUS aren't actively and obviously seeking to support Trump anyway they can. The courts and many reporters behave like lowly peasants around a king when dealing with Trump. The diffidence is shocking.

We are discussing presidential responsibility like we’ve never had a president before.

People need to deal with reality, UNLESS the Supreme Court actually deals with it, any and every future President could claim the exact same thing, it has to happen.

As you know, Marbury v. Madison made the Supreme Court the ultimate authority in the land. This case gives them the right to declare legislation from Congress and executive and administrative actions unconstitutional. We can't overturn Marbury because the Supreme Court will never overturn themselves, so it would have to be done by constitutional amendment. One problem is that the Constitution is so short and often vague---and it doesn't address hundreds of modern issues---that they can just make shit up. Take gun control. The Constitution gives the "militia" (citizen army) the right to bear arms. Guess what---ever since we have had our government with a standing army there has been no militia. So the Supreme Court decided that any asshole with a gun is a "militia"? Our Founding Fathers only added this so we could carry muskets into battle against the British. Now they're deciding what constitutes an assault weapon. This is especially hypocritical for the "constitutionalists" who lean heavily on the intent of the Founding Fathers when they wrote the Constitution. What if it doesn't cover a topic at all? Then they make it up. In Marbury, the Supreme Court ruled that the Supreme Court was the final arbiter. This is circular and is a conflict of interest. One could see this as the Court successfully conducting something akin to a coup d'état (they put themselves in charge). They took voting power away from citizens by appointing themselves Lord High Master. I don't know about you, but that sounds unconstitutional. I also think we need more than just case law---and only a single case at that---to establish who has the final word on everything. If Congress were to pass a law that does away with Marbury, would the Court, then, strike it down thereby keeping itself in power?? This is a runaway court!!

Gritting my teeth with every shopping trip to the SCOTUS store.

What steams my clams about this is scotus can literally take as long as they'd like to rule on it.

Watching from afar.The Supreme Court made an appalling decision on putting a stay on the issue of immunity which had thr effect of delaying the accountability and trials of the wannabe dictator.The appeals court heard oral arguments and presented their decision that no one is above the law.Anyone of sound mind and common sense knows it was a no brainer and the correct decision going forward.

If the scotus wasn’t appalled & outraged in regards to J6, so that they would uphold convictions of those responsible, what hope is there that they would hold this criminal accountable for anything else. It will be on the conscience of anyone who lets him get away with his crimes. Whether a court or his base.

The way I know law is that no one is above the law. The allowance is in pardon by another President or else the crime committed is prosecuted after one term in office comes to an rnd.

I would argue that Trump being in court for a criminal trial like Georgia would be a necessary part of an election since during the campaign voters need to acquire all information about a candidate's capability to serve and the case would be doing that. Not having the case would take away a fundamental right of voters.

They aren’t going to rule that he is above the law, they’re just going to delay the processes some more: by (like) sending the whole process back to the lower courts while reducing the scope of the argument.

A President should only be protected from prosecution if the relevant "criminal" action/s was/were PREVIOUSLY endorsed as "special NATIONAL SECURITY circumstances" by both the HOR and the Senate. Any criminal action not so endorsed must be subject to the full force of the law!

Just like a the abortion law of 1800,s applied to woman. Those laws are applied to rich white men or rich white woman.Those old laws have not been changed to fit the times and circumstances.

Supreme court playing to Trump tune. delay delay delay

Campaigning for an office is a choice. The courts should not care about that choice. Being held accountable for crimes is not a choice. If running for an office means you can't be tried for crimes, every criminal in the country will decide to mount a campaign for everything from president to dog catcher.

There should be an urgency to wrap up before the election, not grant Trump a window for campaigning... because of the possibility of a self pardon or termination of the efforts of the justice department if he wins the election.

James Carville maintains that these commentators have devoted their lives and ambitions to the law, and thus they will tie themselves in knots NOT to perceive the plain truth, which is that the supreme court is acting arbitrarily to serve its own politics. In other words, legal precedent and indeed, legal reasoning, are meaningless. The body of knowledge and skill that they've devoted their lives to is irrelevent.
