As someone from Europe observing the whole Trump thing from the outside I feel really bad for the US. Trump does not belong in the White House and the fact that he was elected there in the first place is a great shame. Bad times. I hope he gets impeached soon, causing nothing but trouble.

I don't see how kneeling is disrespecting our flag. It's not like anyone is pissing on it, burning it, shredding it, etc.. This is an extremely peaceful way to protest and should continue. The POTUS has absolutely no say in this particular case. This is freedom of speech being used properly. Instead of going against these protests, why don't people just read about why they're doing it?

Colin Kaepernick got the idea to kneel from Nate Boyer. Nate Boyer was a green beret in the United States Army. He deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan in support of the Global War on Terrorism. The instruction he gave to Colin was the best course of action he could think of for Colin to still protest. Nate understood the rights of Americans to protest in America. Nate fought for those rights. God bless Colin Kaepernick and God bless Nate Boyer.

America is collapsing because greedy politicians funded by cooperation deny basic needs such as healthcare and education to the masses since the profit maximising point happens to be at a sales price that's unaffordable to most. Sensible societies ensure that the government regulates this system so that their populus remains healthy and educated; able to compete on the international market. In America they used to socialism-scare to deny basic needs which has made a few Americans very wealthy at the expense of the masses. This vicious cycle will only get worse as today's uneducated Americans actually cheer on the corrupt right-wingers that are taking away their basic rights.

This is simple logic. The flag, and the anthem, are representative items. They exist as tangible representations of intangible ideals. If someone says that kneeling in protest during the anthem is disrespectful to America, they're literally committing idolatry. This is why Moses condemned the Golden Calf. This is why Muslims are opposed to visual depictions of Mohammad. When idols become more important than the values they were created to represent, then those values die. American values are dying because people are placing the concept of respect for the flag above the concept of freedom of speech. That's all there is to it. In doing so, they unwittingly strip that idol of the meaning it had to begin with, thus allowing ideologues of hate and division to fill it in with a new, darker meaning, as we see Trump doing every day. People have said Trump is engaged in 'a battle with the media', or 'a battle with protesters', or 'a battle with kneeling NFL players'. No - The fact is, all these battles add up to a war. A war against the 1st Amendment of America's Bill of Rights. A war against free speech. There is nothing more sacred, or more important to defend in the Age of Trump than that. It is the media who watch the watchmen. It is the protesters on the streets who make the will of America heard, and speak truth to power. Do not let this madman erode these rights. Without them America is doomed.

ChasdielOfTheEnd: Right. I'm from Germany, but I've never felt more American than during those last eight months, except for 9/11. When I watch this guy on CNN, German media or on the internet, I wish turning back the time would be actually possible more than ever! This totally unlikeable con man is the worst piece of shit in terms of character, ethics, integrity and role model that I can recall (yeah, politicians used to be role models back in the days, like Obama). And we're not talking about Hitler back in 1933, but about America in the year of 2017, so this is not just about any democratic country, like Portugal or Poland, states with relatively little impact on world politics. This deluded nutjob has been driving me crazy in the past months, so I really can only try to imagine what it's like for Americans to be forced to deal with him on a daily basis. What a damn nightmare.
