Out of all the indicators, best to use the Russell 2000 to gauge the financial well-being of the USA. Even then, the Russell ignores the 90% of all privately-owned businesses around the country.
Many companies are overvalued on paper which results in high Dow numbers, however most of the companies driving high valuations aren't profitable which translates to low actual value and there's going to be a correction based on actual company profit margins eventually.
