I saw this earlier and I cringed when Sunny somewhat downplayed DOs (Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine) vs MDs. I went to medical school with both MDs and DOs and worked under both. There's really no difference in both the length of time and rigorous amount of training. They both take the same residencies and state board tests in most states. We have to be careful when disrespecting respected professions and people's hard work.
Yeah, imagine not considering Optometrists "real" doctors because they are ODs and not MDs. I understood what she was going for here, but she missed the mark.

Um, I'm sorry, I agree with the sentiment but wtf is Sunny coming for DO's like that? The training is virtually the SAME. DOs have to pass the SAME medical licensing exams and they get the same exact residency training as MDs. One could argue DO school gets extra training because they learn everything MDs do but with a focus on the whole body. My PCP is a DO and my eye surgeon was also a DO. The best doctor's I've had.

A DO and board certified neurologist here. Read the AMA/AOA combined statement on osteopathic physicians and the ACGME merger. She is highly insulting many accomplished US physicians, and she should apologize.

I take care of the medical needs of ALL children every day and could actually do the same even for Sunny's children NOW until they turn 21. Sunny, DO’s are medical doctors. With a slight variation of training. DO’s go to medical school, residency training, and have to fulfill their board examinations to practice. It’s insulting to not acknowledge that they are medical doctors.
Sunny is mistaken. DO's are medical doctors with medical training. They do all* the same requirements as MD's in school, but are taught to also include more organic style treatments to increase seeing* the person as a whole in the diagnosis. Just saying. *edited my autocorrect
There is NO significant difference between and MD and DO. They get the same training. In fact, DO’s may get a little more training. I love Sunny, but the view needs to correct the record here. Just because Trump’s doctor is a quack doesn’t mean that all DOs should be discredited too.
Someone needs to educate them on DO's because this is beyond insulting to these individuals who are fully licensed physicians that sacrifice well over a decade of their lives to learn how to heal others.
As a current DO student, I can confidently say that DOs ARE medical doctors and get the same training (if not more) than MDs do. We attend the same residency programs and can practice in any specialty that MDs can! Please be mindful of what you say about other professionals and recognize the influence you have on others, especially on such a widely viewed platform.
The doctor Sunny is referring to may not be giving accurate information, but that has nothing to do with him being a DO. This is a common misconception, MD and DO are both doctors and both degrees qualify that person to give accurate medical analysis of a patient’s health. So please don’t use the fact that the guy is a DO to show that somehow that makes him not qualified.
Sunny commenting on a DO being much different than an MD as if it is less than or not as qualifying is insulting. It’s the same amount of years in school, same residency, and just a different approach to medicine. You are still a doctor.

Sunny's description of what an "osteopathic physician" is on Nov. 28, 2023, was better than Joy's comment on Nov. 21, 2023. But like Joy, Sunny still seems to be implying that this physician's assessment of Donald Trump's health can be discarded just because he is an osteopathic physician. Again, osteopathic physicians have the same practice rights as MDs in every state and territory of the United States. If Trump's new physician is wrong about Trump's state of health, it has nothing to do with him being an osteopathic physician.

I have a DO and so did my mom before me and she made me question whether or not I'm getting the best of care possible so I am about to research how DO's differ from MD'S. After having spent a long journey trying to find a physician that I like and that I feel cares about my well-being, I should not be questioning this at this point it stresses me a bit.

I'm a DO student at Michigan State University. At MSU we have 2 medical colleges. MSUCOM which grants the D.O. degree and MSUCHM which grants the M.D. degree. Despite the differences in our medical philosophies we work and learn side by side. For example, the chairman of MSU's Joint Neurology department is Dr. David Kaufman, DO while our clinical pathology professor is Dr. Paul Kowalski, MD who teaches at both schools. You shouldn't judge a physcion based on MD or DO but rather their individual skills, aptitude, and bedside manner.

Sorry Sunny, I worked in Medical Education for 25 years and my boss, who has a Ph.D. and has worked as the director of Medical Education for years, said the only difference between a MD and a DO is slightly different training, BUT are just as competent as a MD.

Fyi Osteopathic medical students get 500 hours more training than MD’s and we also have to take the MD licensing exam (USLME) along with our own licensing exam (COMLEX) while they are unable to take ours because they lack the training. Its all politics and DO’s lost the turf war 200 years ago is the short of it.

Board certified in family practice here DO and trained along many MD counterparts. Training and expertise is absolutely the same and DOs actually get MORE training compared to MDs related to musculoskeletal conditions. All the presenters would need to do is visit their own doctor or talk to any family or friends and know that DOs provide medical care in all specialties all over the country and in all different levels of care including academic teaching centers. I hope they have some integrity and revisit this issue to set the record straight.
