Thanks for posting this. I'm glad that Sgt. Dill made the effort to get a hold of a transparent mouthpiece for this, as his mouthpiece placement is close enough to half and half that it would be hard to guess if his embouchure was upstream or downstream without seeing the lip position inside. His playing is quite impressive here, too!
Hi, that is quite amazing! We incounter many brass players at our music school here in Germany, with extreme embouchure injuries and problems. You´re the first we have heard of that has undergone surgery. We use a device called the U-Trainer to prevent pressing and to strengthen the mouth-ring muscles. All the best, and the Pulcinella sounds great at the end there. Joan School for Brass Germany
Excellent video and descriptions. I was never brave enough to have the surgery and worked my way around it. This is going to really encourage a lot of players. Notice the amount of top lip in the cup before and after... Roy Stevens would be proud.
To had the surgery May 17th, 2012 on Toronto, Canada performed by Dr. Simon McGrail. My articulation, range, endurance was bad for 20 years. I am playing better than ever and have laid off from May 17th to Sept 4th 2012.
He started to play again roughly 60 days after surgery and played Berio Sequenza X with the New York Philharmonic five months after that. He says it took about a year and a half to feel complete recovered.Hope that helps!
Would love to know if anyone knows of a specialist who could help me. I can't play my flugelhorn for more than a few days without getting a lip injury.
I tried to post a video of our son here in the comments. He suffered some kind of embouchure injury a little over a year ago. The video I tried to post is from about 2mo before things fell apart. The emotional trauma has been devastating for him. Is Dr. McGrail still available to see patients?
Thanks Denver for speaking with me a month ago. Your encouragement is appreciated. I had a MAJOR improvement in my playing when I started Lucinda Lewis's Embouchure Rehab Method. Wow! I can now hit Grand C after a week of doing the "blocked buzzing". If anyone needs info. On Dr. McGrail or Lucinda Lewis I can help you reach them. I believe I was one of Dr. McGrail McGrail's surgery patients in May 2012 but he may have delayed his retirement. Either way, he has an apprentice.
I know it's a bit late to ask ( it's now 2022 ) but does anyone in US do this surgery. I'm at a point where I can barely play for a few days without getting a lip injury. I would love to be able to play my flugelhorn again; I'm not looking to play high or loudly just softly ala Roy Hargrove, or Chet Baker. I played in the U.S. Navy Service School Command Band in 1971 while attending Radar Operator School in Great Lakes. If anyone knows a specialist around the New York City area, or anywhere in US for that matter that could help it would be greatly appreciated. Thank You Lawrence Galvin
@@lawrencegalvin6046 only other person is a military doctor who does only military. McGrail's assistant would know. But I only remember her first name...Connie. Her husband's name is Raul. They lived in Toronto 10 years ago.
El tono y claridad de las nota cambio despues de sirugia(despues de 60 días de recuperar). "Embouchure" viene siendo los musculos de los labios que se requiere para tocar la trompeta
