The overall effect looks really good. I worked for a company that helped keep it in the air for its final year and is an awesome sight to be seen.

Iconic aircraft. Looks like a 'reasonable' kit. Great finish on it though, which is what matters, but shame about some of the fit/instructions. And as some others have mentioned, I had some issues with this vid not playing, but gave it a couple of hours and works now.... who knows. Anyway, great vid thanks for sharing.

Thanks. Yes, "reasonable" is probably the best description. A shame - I think Trumpeter missed an opportunity here. Thanks for letting me know about the issues playing the video - I'll keep an eye on it.

nice build and great review. I have just bought my friend one of these kits and hope to build mine parallel to his build - his with under carriage down, and mine with them up !

Model Nerd cheers, i’ve made a few videos and posted in the last week, not sure though if they are getting in the way of my modelling enjoyment. I do like editing though. Thanks again.

It's a tricky one, isn't it? It does slow down the process of modelling a bit, but I find having an audience pushes me to try new things and hopefully improve my skills. That said I do still build a few kits that I don't video / upload.

Model Nerd thanks for insight, my main audience is instagram but it’s very limiting showing techniques and isnt really a “how to do” place. So I’m investing time in youtube a bit more. Cheers keep safe.

Awesome. I live near Hendon RAF museum where they have one of these. The scale is unbelievable. I would recommend finding the Guy Martin documentary on the last flying Vulcan. A bit harrowing in places. Nice build bud.

I been looking at this kit for a few weeks, I bought a few trumpeter 1/144 kits £3 delivered from amazon... got the Berkut and su34 and a chinease bootleg mig 21 funny enough they have the harder plastic I really should do a video how to remove them spruce gate on soft plastic perfectly...., I literally just done it on a Rpm kit missed my opportunity there. Looks awesome to me and camo came out great, I am sure I seen this at st Athens as a kid in the early 90s have to check the family photo album. Fair play you are knocking them out mate

I'm quite a Vulcan Nerd, I've got something like 25 Vulcan models (I loose count) and four of the Trumpeter kit. I post them on Instagram on @adam_poultney_models if you want to have a look. Honestly, while the subject choice is really good, it's a ok-ish kit let down by very, very poor research. It could be a lot better. My opinions: Subject Choice 4.5/5 Accuracy 3/5 Fit 4/5 Detail 4/5 Decals and Colour Schemes: 2/5 The shape of the kit ranges from pretty good to very poor. The jetpipes are awful, representing neither type equipped to the Vulcan B2 (which looked significantly different). The nose is wrong, not too badly, but though to notice, and the radome panel line is wrong (this is important as the radome was painted black in most early schemes, the wrong shape throws the look completely). Despite these failings, the intakes are pretty good for a Vulcan B2 built from XH557 onwards (earlier ones had narrow intakes like the Vulcan B1), and the tailcone sits just about right (other kits have it too flat). The Blue Steel Missile is missing the entire lower fin. They missed a great opportunity with the kit, they have made it so specific to Vulcans with two ECM plates, an RWR fairing (squared tail cap) and TFR blister. This severely limits the number of Vulcans you can model. If they had moulded the left ECM plate differently, moulded the fin cap separately and moulded the tip of the nose separately (similar to the equally flawed GWH kit, which I'm building my fourth one of now), they could rebox it with some new parts to make an anti flash white version, or just an earlier camouflaged example with the three shade Type D roundels. But in terms of subject choice, you can't go wrong with a Vulcan. My only complaint there is that they choose the Mk2 Vulcan over the Mk1 Vulcan (B1 and B1a), the most modern kit of the Mk1 Vulcan is from 1959 (yes, 1959) and represents the second prototype with the straight leading edge, not a production aircraft (although can represent the first 5 production ones as they were too far into production to be refitted with the phase 2 wing by the time they flew, although were later on), and the best kit is from a year before that, representing a standard Vulcan B1 (but the moulds are long gone and they cost rather a lot if you can find one at all. I have two). However, I wouldn't really want Trumpeter to be the ones to make a Mk1 Vulcan kit given the poor research of this one. And then there's the paint schemes. They are terribly researched. The first and most obvious error is that XH558 doesn't have the blister on the tip of the nose (the terrain following radar, TFR), and the air scoop on the tailcone needs to not be added for this aircraft. It appears the grey suggested is too dark as well. The other scheme, XL361, didn't have the white underside in the scheme depicted; it should be light aircraft grey. The next obvious error is that the ECM plates (the flat parts that go between the jetpipes underneath) are wrong. Most Vulcan B2s only had one, on the right side. The kit only gives you the option to model ones with two. XH558 never carried Blue Steel, so it shouldn't be included in that scheme and XL361 had long since been reverted to a standard configuration without Blue Steel by the time she was in the scheme in the kit. And what's up with the wheels Trumpeter? Why are they green? Some of the stencils are wrong, and the serials and fin flashes are poorly printed (why are there two sizes? Vulcans only ever had 24x36" fin flashes other than on the prototypes).

Good model... Here is an idea for you, one and all, why not make diorama of the James Bond Thunder Ball film with the Vulcan bomber underwater and the divers swimming around with a shark...! Just an idea, hope it goes well, please dont feed me to the shark!
@ModelNerd
@ModelNerd 4 года назад
That's a great idea. Thunderball did cross my mind as I built the kit. I'd have to see if 1/144 scuba divers exist first...
@василийтаранов-ь5п
Nice model, but what about panelline wash?)
@ModelNerd
@ModelNerd 4 года назад
Yes, I meant to mention that in the video. The panel lines on this kit are incredibly thin (as you'd expect as this scale, I guess). Too small to hold any pigment really. I tried a small sample area and I couldn't get it looking right, so I removed it and decided it looked best without the panel line wash. Checking reference images there is dirt visible (especially if the underside is white), but not much.

Great honest comments. The gap between the canopy and the fuselage is a huge letdown. It’s a nice model, but I agree with your comments about the inaccuracies.
@ModelNerd
@ModelNerd 4 года назад
Thanks. Yes, I tried weighting the canopy down as best I could, and I even risked regular model glue (as opposed to PVA) for a stronger bond...but it just didn't like it. A bit frustrating - I might come back and have another look later.
@ModelNerd
@ModelNerd 4 года назад
I might be able to use that or some sort of putty. I'd need to be careful about not damaging the clear parts (although most is painted anyway), but I could try it.
