The lead solo parts sound great! Improv could be more interesting, but having played this solo, I know it can be tough to think about anything other than holding high notes. :)
Well I saw and heard Maynard play like this 3-4 hours in a shot. No bad players on this band !!! Awesome !~ Someday he will learn how to play music. He does great with high notes.
It is some kind of Vincent Bach Stradivarius model -- in the 180 series due to the same brass on the valve cluster... vs Nickel/Silver "ballister" on the 190 series. Telltale / Bach "Signature" signs: 1. Hexagonal end on the leadpipe (where mouthpiece goes into the horn), 2. "D" shaped tuning slide, 3. Double support braces on the tuning slide / leadpipe, 4. "Stop" device on the 3rd valve slide, and 5. Vincent Bach signature inscription on the bell (as seen in the photo at around 4:30 mins into the video -- subtle, but there). There is the possibility that he is playing either an Artisan or Commercial model... and even a specially made version.
no hate, but I don't like the Trumpet solo. Don't get me wrong, the way he plays the high notes is absolutely amazing! but I miss the Groove and the melody in it.
Reminds me of playing with Cat Anderson in Bellson’s band and no matter what notes he played as long as they were high the idiots in the audience would clap and cheer. Hey you know what a lead trumpet player uses for contraception? His personality.
Quite honestly (and I play the trumpet...) Louis splits entries, misses intervals, can't keep on the note, and muffs up his solo. Not impressive at all. The trumpet section sounded better than him - in tune, clean entries, much better.
Do you realize how young Louis is? Come on man, give him some respect! He is still growing as a player. Give him some time - he's got what a lot of us wish we had to play--- a lot of the other stuff you think he's missing - he will get there.
