as an aussie, i dont understand why people downplay our snake and spider situation, sure its not as scary or dangerous as other people make out, but i like the idea that people from other countries are terrified of australia, makes us seem like laid back badasses

as an australian we definitely do care about snakes and spiders biting us we make hella sure that they dont bite us but also know that if it was to happen its not the end of the world and that even if you see this animals there not gonna do shit unless you fuck with them or unluckily land on them

Man thinks it will be 30 here in Australia for summer. Oh boy. Your in for a treat if you ever come down to AU. Also snakes are pretty rare in most big cities. Its only when you go further outback you find wild snakes. And spiders well atleast for me are everywhere but again depends on the location.

I’ve lived in Australia my entire life and have only ever seen 1 snake in the wild despite my area being a prime location for snakes to live because of lots of tall grass. I’ve found that many people are misinformed about Australian culture, lifestyle and wildlife. First of all, snakes don’t just pop up in your living room on the daily and if they ever were to be in a house, it is seen as a risk and not as a casual thing like many people think. This is because in most Australian schools, we are taught about the dangers of wild animals and the potential risks presented when facing them. The second thing I’ve found is regarding spiders. Now spiders are a common occurrence in most parts of Australia, however unlike what is thought by most foreigners, most of these spiders are harmless and only a handful of them are venomous, and of those an even smaller percentage have the power to kill a person. I hope this comment has been helpful to some people and has helped someone to see some aspects of Australia in a different light. p.s: sorry for any spelling mistakes that may have been made. I'm from Australia and what they said about the snakes couldn't be more wrong lmao, we don't have snakes just chilling outside of our houses, I'm 16 and I've never seen a wild snake before but that could just be because of where I live. Regardless, the snakes only harm you when they feel threatened, so you should be fine.
