In this video, I am going to go through my thoughts on the Husqvarna Rancher 450. To me this is the best chainsaw for the average homeowner.
Second generation powerful all-round saw for people who value professional qualities in a saw. Starts easily also with a slower pull, comes with slimmer saw body and flip-up tank caps. The X-Torq® engine means lower fuel consumption and reduced emission levels. Auto return stop switch and visible fuel level makes the saw easier to handle. Equipped with Smart Start® and fuel pump to every time ensure easy starts.
• Husqvarna 20-inch 450 Rancher gas chainsaw is ideal for tasks such as tree pruning, yard cleanups and firewood cutting
• 3.2-HP X-Torq engine reduces both fuel consumption and gasoline emissions
• LowVib anti-vibration system reduces vibration levels for the operator
• Simple, side-mounted tensioning system allows for quick adjustments while working
• Effortless Starting helps the chainsaw start quickly with minimum effort
• Automatic oiler delivers a steady supply of chain lubrication for safe and effective use
• Air Injection air cleaning system removes larger dust and debris particles before reaching the air filter, improving engine life

Yeah, it's called a toolbox, where you're gonna keep that "scrench" screwdriver/wrench. They are not stored on the saw itself, b/c you don't use it often. Or keep it in a bag with your fuel, files, wedges, chains, etc.

A craftsman plastic roller toolbox holds my wedges, bar oil, 100 ft. Rope, trufuel, scrench, and various other items I know I'll need. It is a cheap, light, and easy way to keep your gear collected in one spot that's easily portable to your worksite. I've got enough room in the gack box to add gear if needed.

If you get the combi fuel / oil can its got a compartment for the basic tools. Got non return fillers and while I know you dont need it, its a good bit of kit.

I bought the 450 to replace my old saw about 5 years ago.. the thing is a beast, despite it only having a 20 inch bar I was able to do things like chew up and spit out a 60 foot silver maple that was 3 feet at the base. I love that saw.

@@bobross9332 YES !!!! Based on most of the comments sounds like I made the right choice. So many people love this saw ! I’m glad this is my second saw because I got most of the learning out on the first saw, which eventually crapped out on me….long story. But thanks for the comment dude ! Mike

I've been using a Stihl 029 super since 1999. It's still going strong. The first thing I did to it was purchase a titanium chain cover. I absolutely love that saw. It cost $300 in 1999 and doesn't owe me a dime. ✌️

Just bought one to replace my jonsered 2250, same saw. Even the tooless chain cover/ chain adjustment from the jonsered fits and works perfectly. I've been bucking up fire wood from log load for 40 years. Stihl ( wood boss 028) is durable but started hard , the jonsered was my go-to. Hoping this husky is as reliable.

The chainsaw wrench mounts on the Husqvarna case that you can purchase separately ($40 @ Lowes in April, 2023). I've had saws that would hold it, but in my experience, it eventually falls off and it's lost for good.
@user-td6cg7xg8w
@user-td6cg7xg8w 2 месяца назад
Exactly. The vibration would end up making your "schrench" fall out of any plug wrench holder on the head of the saw. That is what it's called fyi a PLUG WRENCH. Sure the other end fits the bar nut- and you have a flathead (or a Torx ~T5, T15, T30 etc., hex, allen, Phillips - depending on the saw- my old Stihl 026 had torx, - the 6 point star looking bits) anyway, buy the case, it protects the saw HEAD, the BAR (it's sure as hell not a blade) & chain with the SCABBARD built into the box, which has a snap in place holdsr for the plug wrench. That plastic dust cover is not worth the effort to keep it on. Btw that's not how you tighten a chain. especially a NEW chain. Good lord. New chain: take the bar off, remove old chain or the new safety low kickback homeowners chain that HUSQVARNA = HUSK•VARN•UH Altogether now, HUSKVARNUH. Fu** man. anyway, your big saw (my baby saw, for teaching the kids how to run a saw, sharpen, not get in the dirt, not call everything on the fuc**thing by the wrong name/made up/guesswork or whatever you want to say for yourself for getting up on here with a video review on a piece of equipment that you have no clue, no need and absolutely no business being the one to review it -- where was I? Oh yeah, you don't put the chain on/tighten it like that! JEEZUS H. Since it's already on, fast forward to the point where you loosen the bar (the blade to your limited vocabulary and I'm guessing IQ) PINCH the center of the bar from the top hand gripping down, pull up til the bar is an inch higher than where she sits tightened down. If you can't lift it up easily, loosen the bar nut a little bit more, now keep your hand on the bar holding it up, now simply tighten the chain until the all the drivers are in the bottom of the bar- the chain will look tightened up into the bottom of the bar. Now lower the bar that you're holding with the other hand, and tighten up the bar nut. To check the correct tension, you now lift up the chain from the TOP, and you should have exactly 3 drivers showing, not 2, not 4, 3. Take a rag and give it a roll test (might wanna do that before you ever tighten up a new chain as well. It should ofc roll along the bar, smoothly without making any noises from within/around behind the clutch drum, or anywhere in the bar- those xtorq bars have a bigger sprocket with more teeth in the tip of the bar. OK next- before you cut anything -- new chain -- tightened as I just explained - start your saw, run it slow enough to get it around the bar without reving for a few rotations, then go ahead and rev it up, a little more each time for a couple minutes. Your new chain just stretched, so, it's time to go back and repeat the same process to tighten it Lossen bar nut/s, lift bar, tighten til bottom of the bar has all the drivers snug inside. lower and tighten the bar nut and check it - lifting the chain from the top of the bar, and look for what? THREE drivers above the bar. NOW, go to work. File that bi**h proper, using the right angle for the pitch- it's either 25 or 30 degrees almost always, and please - don't angle your file up or down - flat, hold it on both ends, file from the inside of the cutters out, start with the most damaged cutter, and count how many passes it takes to get it done with the 80/20 rule. 80%of your file is in the cutter, 20%above. Do them all equally and evenly. Now use a Depth gage and take your rakers down to to spec. easy. But that's after 50 years of practice, teaching, and sharpening my saws - touch ups, throughout the day, for many long winters, hot summers, and beautiful falls. The newest 450- right there in this boneheads dining room - is narrow, light and just as powerful as the last version of 455 ranchers. The new 455s are bigger, but it's not worth it compared to the XP 550 Mark II if you are a professional. Thats my go to even for 4' to 6' diameter maples. Humboldt or open face cut with no Dutchmans to get my guys killed, plunge cut, and she goes exactly where I want. Felling wedges and mall never a bad idea if you are too close to your hinge. Ok I've ripped on the new guy here enough and I think I shared enough pro arborist knowledge for a RU-vid video of a homeowners saw by a guy who doesn't know anything about this sh** yet...(they say that "arborist" - to me I'm still a logger just like I was 50 years ago- and always was since- the job aint changed, why should the name of it...) Good nuff...

Because it doesn't oil near enough. If you're in cedar or something with a lot of sap it doesn't put our near enough oil to compensate. I just bought one a couple months ago to replace my bigger Mcculloch and it runs great but the oiler just doesn't do the job. I have two smaller Echo that are adjustable and never had any kind of oiling issue with them. From what I've read this is a common issue with the 450.

Well I will say this I’ve been in the tree business off and on for 25 years, and I have owned about every saw u can think of and by far stihl is the best saw wise there is and then echo beats out husqvarna , I have one of these 450 rancher and it’s a good saw but nothing like a stihl or echo, and with that being said by watching your video you don’t have much experience with a saw, that was one of the first things I noticed when I saw you cutting with your craftsman and just to be honest craftsman is the most lame chainsaw I’ve ever seen, no comparison whatsoever with the 450 rancher , but anyway I would leave the tree cutting up to a experience tree guy or girl because your a accident waiting to happen, and be sure to wear your hardhat sawing fire wood that way nothing hits you in the head when instead of wasting your money on that hardhat u should have purchased chaps instead because the way you run a saw your going to need a pair u think it cuts thru that log like butter wait till it jumps back and hits that leg , I could understand a hardhat taking down trees but sawing fire wood there useless I mean u did state that you left the take downs to your personal arborist , that u would have thought would have gave you some tips on what P.P.O to buy for the job your going to be doing. One thing for sure is you might be missing a limb but you won’t have any damage to your head unless u don’t have your hardhat on when u cut your leg off and you fall and bump your head, but I don’t think a bump on the head is going to compare any where close to that saw cutting thru your leg like butter, but anyway be sure to wear that hardhat and don’t worry about any chaps and always cut with the tip of the blade, oh by the way don’t you think it would be called a blade saw instead of a chainsaw if they took blades, SMH so I’m thinking the reason there called a chainsaw is because they take a bar and chain , and don’t get caught up in a tree with a dead battery on your trim saw which I would take it over 2 craftsman saws any day, thanks for your review on the 450 rancher because i really learned alot from it, that it cuts like butter, and has more power than a craftsman, and that I need to worry more about my head than legs cutting firewood and how there warranty is better than any other competitor out there , echo has the same 5 year warranty but stihl on the other hand doesn’t, that’s because they don’t need one because they don’t break as long as there used right and the fuel is being mixed and oil is being put it when it needs it and the (BLADE) stays sharp at all times . Thanks for your info

Well your other saw was $120. It crapped out after 3 years. Sooo. For $240 you could get 6 years out of two of those crappy craftsmen. But if you would have bought the extended warranty from lowes or Home depot than you could have just traded it back in for a new one. Sooo. You’re not exactly economically in the green with this husky. In fact. You probably screwed yourself. Since all of the fuel now has ethanol in it, even 2cycle oil won’t stop your carburetor from gumming up during storage. And warranty’s don’t protect against that. And you obviously aren’t the type of guy who PMCS’s you tools. I guarantee your craftsman just needed a carb clean/rebuild or a new one. Which is like $30. Oh well. You’re paying for the privilege. It’s your money. Spend it how you want to.
