And here it is, Ralph Edwards introduces Bob Barker to national television in the daytime premiere of the show where no matter how much truth you may have, you'll eventually have to pay the consequences! Also includes some promos for NBC, including Home starring Arlene Francis, The Price Is Right with Bill Cullen, The Adventures of Sir Lancelot, a commercial for US Savings Bonds, and a promo for the Tournament of Roses Parade.

Thanks for posting this! The banter and commercials, while a little cringe-worthy today, were certainly typical for the era. Interesting that this had no paid commercial spots. They were all house ads for NBC. (affiliates could use the "station identification" 35-second pause to insert a paid ad if they wanted to.) So this was truly a pilot for a new show (i.e., a new daily time slot.) Barker and Edwards pulled off the scripted banter at the beginning very well. After Edwards left the stage and the contestants started coming in, Barker had to wing it and ... he was excellent! Of course, he came to this job after doing essentially the same kind of show (audience participation) at KGFJ radio for six years, so he knew how to handle the format. (KGFJ is now Korean-language KYPA.)

Yep, LOMBARDI was the offensive mastermind and LANDRY coached the defense as he did while he played.. That worked pretty well for figureheadcoach JIM LEE HOWELL.. The NY GIANTS did not win another NFL CROWN until 1987's('86-87 season) SUPER BOWL..

@robertsprouse9282
@robertsprouse9282 10 месяцев назад
@@kevinmadden1645 , thanks for the correction. I appreciate it. I was flipping HOWELL with JIM RAY HART of the SF GIANTS MLB'ERS. I am getting old, sigh. Meanwhile.. LOMBARDI coached the line, and backs, and coordinated the receivers for the GIANTS, a positions coach who was eventually given the title, although that is what he did anyway and it did not change it, of OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR. The Giants during the seasons that LOMBARDI coached them were one of the first teams to use what we would call a primitive zone-blocking scheme. They called it RULE BLOCKING..blocking an area where players were at without pinpointing the blocking of a specific defender. That rule blocking had rarely if ever been utilized in the NFL or AAFC before. VINCE L. brought it into widespread, popular use. I would say that would make him a mastermind. Just as the inventor of the then modern flex 4-3 defense, D-COORD. TOM LANDRY was a genius, a mastermind. HOWELL himself joked that all he did was just blow up the footballs, LANDRY AND LOMBARDI did the coaching. Allie Sherman only coached the backs until 1952. He later returned as offensive coordinator, but that was in 1959, the year LOMBARDI left. After LANDRY left to head coach the brand new DALLAS COWBOYS, and LOMBARDI went to run GREEN BAY, HOWELL resigned a year later and Sherman took over an aging and fading team, that true, did make three titlegames, losing by a combined total of 67-17 for that trio. When LANDRY and VINCE L. were in NY, they won that title, 47-7, and only lost the other in overtime..In Landry's last season with NYG, they lost the 1959 titlegame by only a tad over two TDs, but LOMBARDI was not there, SHERMAN was. Are you doubting that LOMBARDI AND LANDRY who did most of the coaching, were not masterminds? Are you saying that in a ball control scheme, that yards are more important than time of possession? The NY GIANTS were NEVER IN A RUN-HEAVY scheme going to lead the league in points and Did they have a BART STARR at qback? No. Did they have TAYLOR AND HORNUNG? No. But, the GIANTS did have an offense that controlled the clock and scored routinely when the defense set them up, rarely failing to get six in the redzone. YOUR MOVE..

Bob was 33 here. Kind of weird seeing him nervous to be on TV.

He was just transitioning from radio to television. The medium was still relatively new at the time.

He had the same radio voice, just much younger. This is a historical moment in television.
