The Gambler
I'm sitting at the table
The chance to win it all
I push my chips to the center
"All in"
I look at the dealer
The dealer looks back
The flip of the cards
The show of hands
A straight against a flush
-I lost it all
And a smile falls on my face
Because I knew this day would come
In this game,
we call life
Sooner or later, the house will claim their lot
And we are all gamblers
Even tough you gamble on safety
You are still sitting by the table
And in the end
The house always win

My friend died doing a low energy roll close to the ground like the one you did. I hope you realise how lucky you’ve been this far. Always valuable for others to see this and learn from it but really hope you’ve taken these lessons forward with you. Speedflying doesn’t need to be a roll of the dice every time you take off and land. Know your conditions, check your wing regularly and triple check before take off, no low turns and you’ve only got fun and good times on the horizon. Stay safe everyone

Im sorry to hear about your friend, loosing someone you love is never easy but its also the dark side of this sport, you get to meet the most awesome people on the planet, just to have them dissapear in an instant that is something that i did not know going in to the sport, the gang that started flying together were immortal.. until we weren't and its strange, other people's accident's affect me, much more than my own does wish you the best Rob, take care of yourself

@@karleess I partially DON'T agree with it. I'm sensitive to other people's tragedies, but the OP encouraged them to take more care with their own life. Instead of committing to that, they say they are not so affected by their own accident. Are they going to learn from it as they were implored to?

Thank you for your honest heartfelt comment. If you look across the board in aviation you find the same big problem at every level from Wing to rocket proximity flying. Every kind of airplane in every kind of paraglider has run into the ground. My uncle was a mechanic in the Philippines during the second world War . Whenever all the fighter pilots came back to the base the guys who were in good shape with plenty of fuel went over and took a pass through the swamp grass that was 10 ft tall and it just flew up in the sky and made a hell of a display and the other guy who was in trouble went and landed first he didn't go through the grass. My uncle complained to the base commander, because it was hard on the propellers. The bass Commander said"whatever it takes to make these guys feel like they can face another mission and win whatever it takes if they come home and they fly through the swamp grass and they're happy and they think they're going to win on the next pass when they go out good we'll get another propeller."something about proximity flying pulls people in to their death.

I have been flying regularly for 10 years. My first solo flight was 19 years ago. I own a mini wing and a cross country wing. I fly almost every week. Yet, I don't understand people like you. Your safety margins are incredibly tiny. For me, they are nowhere near acceptable. For me, flying is a sport of rigor. You test yourself in choosing to stay safe and taking reasonable margins. I train and perfect my piloting skills to avoid danger. Flying is fun. Living is more important. Don't compromise your life for silly stunts. Stay safe out there.

Thank you for a nice comment you said you did not understand people like me, so let me give you a glimpse of my brain what f i told you i got stage 4 lung cancer, with 3 months left to live would your comment still be the same? would you still tell me to play it safe? and would the words even mean anything? people talk about risk, like one could live forever, if you just are careful enough, but that is not true, you will die, no matter how you play your cards my mind goes to these places quite often and I'm always reminded that i am just a temporary small insignificant piece of dirt, drifting through this vast universe my heart will stop beating, my body will rot, worms will eat my flesh, and my bones will become dust Its both a blessing and a curse in the same time that it is liberating, its also soul crushing but its true, and give me nothing but truth i refuse to rest on comfortable lies it can be a fight to find meaning, with this knowledge embedded inside you, but flying helps, it's one of the few things in my life that actually feels real you see my flying as a death wish, for me it is life And i wish the same for me, as i do for you A nice clear day, with a nice view, a gentle breeze, and a soft landing, with some laughs with good friends

@@MarosVice908 man, you do not strike me as very smart. You can try and convince yourself that you're being profound and wise with the BS philosophy that so many use to excuse poor decision making in extreme sports, but you come off as a fool to the rest of us. You showed extremely poor decision making in this video, mostly in the low energy barrel roll and wingover landing that was way too close to the ground. I don't care how much of a cynic you are, there are still people that care about you. Quit being selfish and make good decisions for their sake if you won't do it for your own.

There don't have to be broken bones. Take your progression with a wider safety margin and you will feel a lot less pain. Why so close to the ground? It looks like you are about 1 or 2 years into the sport, you are missing lots of skills still. Your attitude of "there will be broken bones" and "plough through the pain" is what gets your hurt. Take it easy bro, don't stop flying, just widen that margin.

Across aviation from the simplest Wing that we fly with a harness hanging under it like a paraglider all the way up to the best performing airplane there's one universal death one thing that unites them all. Proximity flying. It doesn't matter what kind of an aircraft it is. Somebody has been trying to fly it right next to the ground and killed himself in it. I watch the show about the general aviation death rate and one guy said that a plane in the mountains turned in to a valley and he decided to die when he made the turn 10 minutes later he hit some place in the mountain but it didn't matter once he made that turn into that canyon it was too narrow to turn around it was too deep to fly out and he was doomed to hit the ground.

yes, this was all me all but the last clip was from the 2 first years of flying, at least for me, the beginning was the most dangerous. its when i had the most ''drive'' and very little experience and skill to back it up Don't be discouraged by this film, speedflying can be a relative safe sport, stick to a big wing, choose the days you fly with caution, and find a good mentor to learn from so if this is something you're interested in, i say go for it!

@@MarosVice908 sorry for delay bud, work got in the way last few days.. Yep, pritty much the same, mostly all our accedents was in the first year or so of the person flying. We have only been at it for 3 years so far, so still new to the sport and learning everyday... haha.. Were all self taught, unfortunately no speedflying or speedriding courses in Scotland. My wife was going to go to the pro speedflying course in the alps, but unfortunately managed to shattered her ankle before getting there. 😬 Unfortunately it didn't fix and now the joint is being removed and fused together soon, not ideal.. (Thankfully it was her ideal to go flying that day not mine, lol. Although I did get her into the sport... 🙄) End of the day, I don't think its a sport that people get into just to stay fit. I think that the type of people who are happy to strap a wing above there head and run off a mountain to see what its like without training probably already know exactly what there stepping into, I certainly did. Its been exactly as dangrous as I expected... abasultliy deadly, just as I thought... no surprise there. I would have possibly gone to a course if there were any in my vicinity, but its also just not my genral way of doing things, lol. My only worry is with people with no previous history of extreme sports wanting to do it and being unaware of the 'exact' amount of danger there putting themselves in.. I'm away to be 43 in a day or two, meny, meny years of injuries (or as I prefer: memories❤, lol). I think the comments are funny in speedflying, some people are so bad for trying to hide there mistakes.. so meny seem to sort off insist/pretend they never have accedents? Really? In speedflying? No accedents? Watching accedents is a grate way to learn all the unexpected stuff.. Good for you putting them up too bud 👍 Hope to see you in the sky sometime ✌

looking back with what i know now, i would never have chosen that take off And thats the biggest danger with speedflying, you dont know, how much you dont know but this is what happens when you choose to learn yourself one of the most extreme sports in the world, learning by doing. i don't think i had even a 100 flights yet, when this happened. but still.. the day after this accident happened, i did 2 things.. i ordered a new wing, and a beginner course, i was never going to stop yes, the last video was when i broke my back, another great lesson learned I had not been flying for 3 months straight, and misjudged my altitude loss towards the landing area, my plan was to do a 270, but when i came over to the landing, i saw that i had not enough height to do this maneuver, the result.. you saw it in the video The take-away i got from it, was that the flying skills age really quickly, and one should be extra careful when it's been a long time since flying in hindsight, this is just common sense, but its too easy to be hyped, when you haven't been in the air for a while
