If you watch the whole VLive, you would see that Changbin actually started the whole walrus thing. Compared to the elephant seal Chan originally translated it as, the walrus is cute. He doesn't mind the members joking around, and they know when they are pushing it too far, but I don't think the fans should joke about it. It is like my brother. I can fight with him, but heaven help anyone else who tries. Hyunjin was on hiatus, and Chan had got song recommendations from everyone but could not mention Hyunjin, so he did not mention who anyone's recommendations were.
Yes this is it, changbin and the boys are like brothers that’s why they are comfortable teasing eo, while us stays just a friend/fans so please don’t cross the line and creating drama that not even exist among them
One of the things that was edited out of this video was the fact that at about 3/4 of the way through they spoiled 3 songs and at that point there were over 6 mil watching them, LOL. I believe that is the most viewers that Chan has ever had at one time!
watching the whole live is actually so much funnier like it’s 2-3 hours i think but chan leaked songs they played and vibed to the songs the members recommended hyunjin was on hiatus and they weren’t allowed to talk about him bring up his name or anything and chan wanted to include his song recommendation as well so he kept the names anonymous but he played an iu song and iu is hyunjin’s fave artist so it was definitely from him i think? and then them realizing they’re 6 million people watching and chan saying “too many people watched now we’re gonna get in trouble 😭” (because they leaked songs without the company’s permission and chan was just like we made them what are they gonna do about it they’re our songs 💀 pls hes so….) anyways the whole live is hilarious (ik weight jokes can be triggering but with skz they compliment/simp and obsess over his body more than they make jokes like that literally all of them love his body so much changbin’s entire personality revolves around him eating and working out 24/7 and he loves calling himself a pig and promoting never skipping meals and eating a lot he’s always eating in their behind the scenes in waiting rooms etc but ever since they noticed others could be getting uncomfortable with the jokes they’ve stopped and han apologized during his freestyle rap in one of their USA concerts i don’t want people assuming skz are fatphobic or anything like that when they’re constantly promoting to never skip meals /diet in healthy ways only /self love/ all bodies are beautiful etc hope people don’t misunderstand
It's completely understandable how you feel about the weight comments , I feel the same way it makes me uncomfortable . Skz actually don't allow anyone (stays included) call Changbin warlus becuse the joke is just between skz .
i totally understand that you're uncomfortable with the weight jokes, i'm sure many ppl feel the same and at times i feel like they go overboard with those jokes. i know changbin is fine with it and he called himself that as well jokingly, but in front of a big audience i feel like they should think about how those watching might feel about those jokes being made. esp about someone who is clearly not overweight at all. not trying to cancel them or whatever, they are allowed to say whatever they want to eachother etc etc and i'm really not mad at them but at times they could be more considerate

Honestly in Asia it's very normalised to joke about these things which shouldn't be normalised it's stupid I'm from Asia and I can tell people don't really get that offended by those joke because of how often these jokes are made and it's not only skz I've seen many k-pop groups do that specially the enhypen situation but the difference is I can see how changbin also gets his revenge on them so I don't have much problem with it but for people who are serious about these things it might hurt and i totally understand it

i feel the same as you for the weight "jokes", it's something really common to hear this kind of "jokes" or comments especially in the k-pop industry (i'm not saying of course that it's not the same in the western industry because it is). however i've seen that in the k-pop industry this kind of comments are considered as normal, but it can put some people in uncomfortable positions.
no i get what you mean about the weight thing and the walrus/pig jokes... it's something people on twitter talk about all the time because changbin has said he doesn't like it (after this vlive, especially because some "fans" came to their concerts with walrus signs) and luckily it hasn't really come up in a little while, but you're not alone, it makes a lot of people uncomfy and it's something i don't like that chan and jisung have brought up multiple times :( like, as funny as this video is, changbin really does look kind of upset at times, which makes me sad :(( a lot of people say "they're friends they can joke and changbin would tell them if he didn't like it" but sometimes it's harder to tell friends (especially if you're on live with thousands of people watching!!) that what they're joking about is upsetting you.
It's just a cute joke between them. Changbin even told us his mom joke abt her stretching neck when doing pilates that it look like a turtle neck and said "I'm a sea turtle because my son is a walrus". Changbin call himself "walrus" when playing in the pool in the skz code too. To them, it's nothing more than a cute joke cause they find the animal adorable (They dissing each other everyday tbh, it's a family thing) Han once cried when he thought Changbin mad at him because he was late to the recording studio even when he knew CB just being tired, not mad, but still being scared. So don't worry if CB really doesn't like it, then he would definitely tell them, CB is not the type that you can tease him if he doesn't want at all.
The thing is that jokes about weight in general, even if they’re not trying to be mean, kinda trigger some people because it’s not really a subject to joke about. I know they got good intentions, it’s just that it says a lot about the culture they’ve grown up in.
I will say that whatever Changbin’s view of the walrus jokes from the members, it’s important to remember that he isn’t comfortable with them from Stays! He got super uncomfortable on a video call when a ‘fan’ made a joke calling him one, and he said on their group pre-tour vlive that “if he sees any walrus slogans/signs then he will not look at the side for the rest of the concert”
Changbin embrassed it now that he is being called a walrus. He even did a walrus ceremony when him, han, chan and hyunjin won the swimming contest against lix, lee know, i.n and seungmin. He also shared recently on a past vlive that his mom said that "if my son is a walrus theb I'll be a sea turtle so together we can swim in the sea." Its an inside joke in skz, even in the past lee know was also called a pig because he was chubby before. The only thing that is not good is how the fans took it way more out of the line. Printing posters, even banners and etc. This are already addressed by stays to stays and as much as possible stays are giving warnings to other stays because seriously, its a joke between the members but not to fans.

I totally understand about being uncomfortable with the weight jokes. They’ve 100% toned it down recently, and Changbin has been upfront with also stopping the jokes because he doesn’t like them anymore. The main reason he doesn’t like them anymore is people take the joke way too far and it can be very hurtful.
can we please not make things up? some stays were uncomfy with the jokes yes and that's understandable but changbin NEVER ever said he didn't like them or wanted them to stop. As long as we stays don't cross the line with them, skz are comfy enough with one anothet to tell each other if they don't like smth

He may be uncomfortable with fans making those jokes but changbin has been making the walrus jokes himself recently with the members and laughing. He hasn’t hinted in anyway he’s uncomfortable with the members making them, the members compliment his body all the time he knows he’s not fat, these jokes come from his skzcode character being half pig and the inside joke that changbin is caught always eating in skz talkers. That’s why he always jokes that he eats a lot. If stays are uncomfortable that’s another story but I feel like people need to stop projecting onto changbin himself.

I don't think this kinda joke is a big deal among SKZ members. Because Changbin himself keeps making fun of Lee Know all the time that he looks like princess Fiona from Shreg. Also in the SKZ code Jeju island, Changbin did water flip and called it Walrus Ceremony to celebrate his win. I don't think he'd use the word if he hates the name walrus. He'd tell members to stop for sure if he's not ok with it because that's what the man with principles does. And the member will surely stop making fun of him immediately because they are Stray Kids, the most loving and caring boys in the world.

the long periods of uncontrollable laughter always get me xD i definitely get you. even if changbin is okay with it, that doesn't mean you have to be. a lot of people are telling you to not take it seriously when you clearly said that those kinds of jokes are personally triggering to *you*. they're rough for me, too, regardless of who says them, what the intentions are, or if the recipient is in on it/fine with it.
chan said the members tease each other a lot & they're fine with it. if something bothers them, they'd ask if they could turn down the joke a bit or ask the member if they're offended by the joke but most of the time the members are fine, they'd just say if they don't like smth So dont worry, They know their limits 😊 but i understand about being uncomfortable

The jokes are completely unserious, if you have a group dynamic anything similar to straykid's you'd know some of the messed up jokes everyone finds funny lol. Its all about the group dynamic and comfortability which of course won't cater to all audiences.
i totally get what you mean. when i first saw this video i was a bit uncomfortable also. i mean i love this vlive it’s iconic and you can see that chan saw changbin getting a bit down towards the end and he started comforting him so i feel like that offset a lot of uncomfortableness i felt and changbin felt. you didn’t come across rude or disrespectful. in my opinion there’s certain names and jokes that only your best friends can say to you or joke about. i definitely think it shouldn’t be a constant thing and they have toned down on it a lot more since this vlive.

it’s not their responsibility to make their fans feel comfortable. it’s their job to make music. if they stopped joking around, they would also get hate for “being fake” and “not being authentic enough”. you have the ability to leave if it makes you uncomfortable. so many idols can’t even be themselves anymore because fans had a problem with everything they did. because idols keep listening to the fans, that leads fans to believe that they can do and say whatever they want as well as get their way. just imagine going up to someone and saying “hey. can you stop being yourself? it’s kinda triggering.”. no one is going to listen let alone take you seriously. the world is going to continue.
i also feel kind of uncomfortable with any jokes about someone's appearance, especially when we know about korean beauty standards. changbin isn't fully ok with this either, because some "stays" don't have limits. i think in a video call the person edited changbin's face with walrus (which is so fucked up) and some time after that, changbin told us to stop with theses jokes. specifically STAYS! recently he joked about it again, but it's him joking about himself. he asked stays to stop and didn't say that he'd stop or the members. i don't think that's a problem with the video you reacted, we are enjoying their interection. we just need to respect changbin and not act like we're close to him and can do the same, that we can do something that he told us not to. except for this vlive, there's not much content with the walrus joke, so it's not a big thing on the fandom and some "stays" need to realize that.
