In 2021, Swift 5.5 introduced a new concurrency model to support async/await, structured concurrency, and actor model. While they are all powerful new language features that are useful in production, there are still some challenges needed in order to fully replace the existing reactive programming. In this presentation, we will explore the current nature and limitation of Swift Concurrency (as of Swift 5.7), the issues that my team encountered while developing GoodNotes app, and how to overcome these challenges by creating our own concurrency module.
