I've been using green caddis larvae for Steelies since I was a teenager back in the 1970's. Steelhead also are very fond of Little Winter Black Stonefly nymph's and very small black midges most of the winter, from January right until the spring. Usually the fish don't start feeding on the flies until mid-day( warmest part of the day) after most people have left for the day. I live in Ontario and the Steelhead fishing has been really good all winter because it's been so mild here and the little Black Stones are really effective now. I just finished watching you tie the freshwater shrimp (Gammarus) pattern and WOW, that has to be the absolute best pattern I have ever seen. Believe it or not Lake Huron and Georgian Bay had a Smelt & Alewife Crash years ago and the Gammarus is now our Steelhead's main food source. By the way are you a Steelhead or Atlantic Salmon angler ?
@@MainelyFlies actually couldn't wait and went after work and cought 5 catfish a 3 sunfish on premade flies. Never casted a fly rod and did damn good imo
I absolutely love this color, here where I am dark colored flies tend to work better than others, the trout tend to be full of black and dark brown insect's. keep this great content coming👍 #flies
I got your email I’ll be headed north for a moose hunt next week but will have it on the way as soon as I can. You’ll get a tracking number sent to you when it’s on the way
