That does not work like expected ALT+SHIFT+3 in nano (version 5.8). That command you say, actually uncomment/comment (#) the current line. To show all line numbers in nano, use the -l parameter: nano -l Or press ALT+C to show a little informative bar (like in vim) on the bottom of the line showing the current line number, column, character. Running nano with the -l parameter is more handy.
