DUUUDE I GEEKED OUT WATCHING THIS!!! Im so happy to see a proper press video on yt. I never plan on getting this back because of how expensive that film is. It was really nice seeing this. Your conceptual stuff is so cool! The vignetting actaully added a nice touch with all the shots that had the circles on her back. The camera is able to take 645, 6x6, 6x7 and 6x9. You just need the right back and mask for the right format. I highly recommend the 75mm lens, for both polaroid and 120mm.

You can get these cameras off places like eBay or keh. Make sure the one you’re buying accepts returns and do your homework to research how much they’ve sold for in the recent past. If you’re patient you can find good deals. I picked up my last Universal Press setup with a 127 lens and Polaroid back for $150 not too long ago so they represent a really solid value not just in terms of a camera that shoots Polaroid but medium format cameras in general. The framing can be a bit difficult if you’re not shooting 6x7/6x9 or using one of the three lenses that it has frame lines for.

Cool shots Linus! That little misshap in the beginning reminded me of something that happenned several years ago: I wasted a full pack of FP-100C while loading the film and to this day I still don't know what I did wrong because I definitely know how to load packfilm! Never been so angry at myself, wasting precious and rare film (and 65€ down the drain....). Well, that happens sometimes...

If you’re into shooting instant film and want to do it the cheapest way possible but with manual controls just google “zluxtech mamiya universal”. This dude in Hong Kong actually makes and sells a custom instax wide back that fits this camera and the film comes out to about 80¢ per shot which is probably cheaper than the price per shot of 120 film by the time you’ve paid for processing and scanning! Instax is actually surprisingly high quality film too, it gives results comparable with 100c with a much more sensitive emulsion. Also if you peel the frame and developer pod off of a shot of instax wide it actually looks a lot like peel apart.

Damn, I’ve been shooting this combo for over a decade now and I remember my first 2 packs I put through it I didn’t know the lens was collapsible and could not figure out why nothing was in focus. At least you only lost one frame because of this. For the other ones that are slightly out of focus, I’m curious why you didn’t just stop down and slow down the shutter speed? Shooting at wider apertures makes sense when you have a lot going on in the background and you want to separate your subject and throw everything else out of focus but there’s not much in the background to distract, and in fact having the background more in focus might actually add to the composition for this concept. I find it interesting how much these lenses vary from copy to copy. I’ve probably shot over a hundred packs of peel apart on this setup and I’ve never seen it vignette as hard as this although I’m sure having an all white background probably exaggerates it. Hot tip- the 75mm, 127mm, and 150mm lenses have an image circle that is actually designed to cover peel apart film. A couple other things worth mentioning- not only does this camera shoot 6x7 and 6x9, but it also has a G adaptor that lets you attach RB67 backs so that opens the possibilities up to 645/6x6/6x8 (motorized back) which makes it even more “Universal”. Also it seems like you’re being careful to time the development of each shot which is important with Polaroid peel apart but with Fuji it is self terminating so once the chemistry has done it’s thing it becomes inert so you can’t accidentally over develop it like Polaroid. The tendency for 3000B these days is that the blacks fade a bit more gray but this can at least partially be attributed to the aging of the developing reagent. If anything leaving the film to develop longer and fully exhausting the developer could in theory lead to slightly deeper blacks, so there’s no rush to peel it at exactly 15 seconds. I totally get the feeling of wanting to see the result as soon as possible though 😂 This is by far my favorite video you’ve made and something I never expected to see on RU-vid in all my years shooting this camera and film. Really hyped more people get to share the excitement for how magical this stuff is.

@linusandhiscamera
@linusandhiscamera 8 месяцев назад
Very similar! I went with this one because it was cheaper and getting a 120 back and adapter is much cheaper and easier to find. There's a reason the cameras pretty much looks identical!
@hellothisiskyle
@hellothisiskyle 8 месяцев назад
It’s the same as the 600SE with a few key differences. The 600SE has framelines for packfilm which is actually really useful as framing on the Universal can be a huge guessing game since it only has 6x7/6x9 framelines. The 600SE also has a different lens mount and different back mount so they are not interchangeable between the two cameras, meaning the 600SE can only take the 75/127/150mm lenses made for it and it can’t use any of the universal’s roll film adapters

@hellothisiskyle
@hellothisiskyle 8 месяцев назад
The company is called one instant and the film is still over $12/frame before shipping for the assemble your own. Unfortunately it’s not a company making a new film but rather they are using dead stock Polaroid reagent that was made for the Polaroid 20x24 cameras and repurposing it to use in their single shot peel apart film. It’s amazing we even have that option but it’s not sustainable and once the reagent is gone so will the film. It’s less a new film and more salvaging the very last bits of what is still left behind from Polaroid while it lasts
