Lol, I think they have quite basic taste buds for ppl who travel so much. I also often feel skeptical whenever they say some food is "spicy". They were even kinda exposed by CupofTJ unintentionally about it :D
I also don't like raw onions. LOVE cooked onions, Grilled onions on a burger are great, but I've never like raw onions of any kind on or in Anything. It's not that uncommon of a preference :)
@@11azuresky I think everyone's entitled to having a food they don't like 😄 And as far as spicy food goes, we fell in love with it when we traveled to Thailand and other SE Asia countries. We've eaten with TJ twice, and the first time was all desserts so I don't think she's had much of an effect on our food preference 😸

English is not my first language, but I will try to explain my comment: I have never said that you must like everything. But I THINK you guys DO have basic taste for ppl who travel and are exposed to various cuisines so much. Although, to be fair, I have seen more picky eaters travellers on YT than you guys. And that's why I don't subscribe to them ;)

Not once did you come off as snobby. I had an old coworker almost throw a temper tantrum because I said a Chinese takeout place near our work was unhealthy (and kinda pricey for my budget at the time) and that I was trying to eat healthier. She was literally offended because I didn’t want to eat MSG and all the oils/sugars. That’s what some of these comments reminded me of, my goodness people 😂

You say this is the coolest but did you know there's a ufo McDonalds in Roswell, New Mexico. Also, Finnish McDonalds is my favourite for the food at least compared to the UK one. Pear shake and pizza burger? YES PLEASE. Really excited to try Japanese McDonalds when I go in April
The Kiwi Burger was not invented by McDonalds it has been around before McDonalds came to NZ and they stuff up the Angus meat so it tastes just like their regular meat patties, Any Takeaway place in NZ makes better Kiwi Burgers, beetroot is all over the place
McDonald's isn't necessarily bad for you. I don't understand the major diss. I would imagine a lot of the meals you eat while traveling are far worse in terms of fat, calories and sodium.
Yeah, that line annoyed me, too. Just because it is a burger or fast food or McDonald's doesn't automatically make it unhealthy. Also, sodium isn't unhealthy and doesn't cause fatness (only too many calories does).
Ok, let's see..... MSG, GMO, chemicals that you haven't even heard of and the list goes on. Multi billion dollar corporations do not make their money selling healthy food.
Sarah Keech I think you must be the only person I've come across that said McDonalds is not necessary bad for us. The sugar, carbs, MSG, preservatives, cheapest ingredients beefed up scientifically to make it more appealing for our palate.

It's naive to pick one fast food place and say they are the culprit, when most fast food isn't "healthy"! Honestly, tons of stuff from the grocery store is packed with more chemicals/preservative/junk than a McDonalds burger.
Sarah Keech It also depends where you are purchasing your groceries and McDonalds location. They’ve removed some of their horrid ingredients, but still have some terrible ingredients. Unless you’re literally only buying processed groceries, McDonalds is still unhealthy. Better choice does not equal healthy.
McDonalds were doing a buy one get one free offer,on Big Macs. Me and a friend ordered 10 each, 40 burgers total. And we broke the shop for about 20 minutes. All people could get were fries and nuggets. One of my proudest moments.

"Kiwi" is a nickname for a New Zealander and you can't ear the national bird, the kiwi and the "kiwi" fruit was originally called the "Chinese gooseberry" and rebranded as kiwi to increase sales!
You're very correct, all the ingredients at McDonald's NZ are locally sourced, which means the patties are 100% NZ grass-fed beef, so it might taste different to American beef which is typically corn-fed.
I think most of the beef served at American McDonald's restaurants comes from Argentina, actually. I can't cite the source material, but I do remember reading about it. It was probably in one of my industry magazines that I subscribed to before I retired from my career as a chef?
@@calichef1962 Actually I think I've vaguely heard something along those lines too. Either way though, the NZ beef is probably going to taste different to whatever beef they use in the US; most NZ beef is from Friesians, which they don't use in Argentina, and most US cattle are corn-fed. Though tbh you'd probably have to have a trained palate to tell the difference.
Kiwi Burger looks like the old average aussie burgers , they don't tend to add the beetroot so much anymore, and then add some pineapple and that's a good burger !
Amazing how different McDonald's keep it get rid of different sandwiches...like mcrib all year round in Germany....I cant eat there though...dont like the beef...my st bernard loves thier nuggets.take her there before going to the vet! They do have some of the best fries.
Seeing a real Kiwi bird is on my bucket list. We don't have any in our zoos here in Australia. A bird without wings has definitely caught my attention.
Some may have already said but if going to Queenstown.. Fergburger is most popular with sometimes big ques.. but Im vegetarian so diditn wanna risk any vegetarian burgers incase it was on the same grill.. Thers another burger places meant to be just as good behind it.. Cant remember its name..
We tend to avoid American fast food in general, too. But I totally see why you swing by this McD's! So unique and I appreciate that they made it a "thing". Just sad you couldn't go in the plane but that's travel for ya. Not everything goes to plan!
Yeah it was just too interesting of a place to pass up, and the story of the Kiwi burger had us intrigued! Still, it was a fun experience even if we didn't get to go in the plane 😄
The planes a McDonald Douglas DC3, very appropriate for a McD's... those burgers looked ALOT better than british McD's btw. I'd eat that but wouldn't touch a British one if you paid me. Last time I ate there I puked my guts up before leaving the car park...
Well, Macca's didn't actually invent the Kiwiburger as it was available at most burger joints around the country. Usually a (bigger!) slice of beetroot was on nearly every type of burger that had salad or coleslaw on it as well. Eggburgers that I remember eating in the 1980's were almost the same as the Macca's Kiwiburger, just that the employee came up with the name 'Kiwiburger' and it is trade marked by MacDonald's as that.
The kiwi burger is a take on the tradition kiwi egg burger then Mac Donald's added their spin on the classic kiwi egg burger...and waalaa Mac Donalds Kiwi Burger...and yip you got ripped off with the beetroot....
The Kiwi burger is pretty average,had a few growing up in NZ,it lacks some real flavour,the Beetroot and Egg don't do a lot to enhance it,i think it needs some Hangi flavoured pulled beef,slow cooked,with kumara and native pepper.
PS - McDonald's did not invent the Kiwiburger - they just put it on their menu. A lot of takeaway shops used to sell burgers with the option of beetroot and egg. We even sold it in our takeaway as a Kiwiburger in the 80s. So McDonald's just stole the idea and added it to their menu as an attempt to be nostalgic.
I broke my many year anti McDonald’s steak when I got into Tallinn late at night last year. I didn’t see anything open on the map and was starving. I was soooooo mad the next morning when I walked past the same McDonald’s and there was a Max Burger around the corner!

I seldom eat at a McDonald's but whenever I do, it's only a McDonald's of Hawai'i franchise, to eat the McTeri Burger (basically a teriyaki hamburger) when it is on their menu since it is offered only for a limited time throughout the year. Or I eat an island breakfast platter consisting of Portuguese sausage, eggs, and rice. Yummy (Ono in Hawaiian)!
If you ever make it to Wellington before Sunday, Maori Kapa Haka Nationals are being held at the Westpac Stadium. Started today, finals are on Sunday. All traditional food. If ever you want a full Maori experience, you can't get it any better than at Te Matatini (Maori Culture Dance Nationals).

They cheated and copied my local McDonalds at West Lakes Australia, who had a full DC-3 as part of their restaurant back in the 1980's. They ended up removing it some years later, but i dont know why
We don't have one in Amsterdam, guess you got them in the south. But it is still fast food and I am not a fan. It can be addictive, though! Been through that phase when we lived in the U.S!
Hmmm.... I get your story about a local franchisee creating the "kiwiburger" and it getting picked up by the chain as a whole. But... invented it? That's a bit far, Kiwi's (and Australians) have been putting eggs and beetroot on burgers for a long long time.
Taupo (Toe - Poor) is my maori Tribes ancestral home, Ngati Tuwharetoa. Its a shame its so cloudy and you cant see the volcanos. Hopefully when u drive pass you will see.

I came across an article about McDonalds in New Zealand handing out books rather than toys with their kid's meals rather than toys. It made me wonder if that was something you noticed when you where there.
The fact that liberals the world over diss McDonald's makes me enjoy it all the more ! I love you guys but totally disagree with the slam on good old McDonald's!
Hey Roy! Glad you enjoy it! It's just never been our favorite when it comes to fast food, we'd always opt for Panda Express or Chick-fil-a 🍽But hey, we gave it a go at least!
