It’s crazy how each kid has grown so much. I hope you all are having an easy adjustment while the house gets fixed up. Also, you should try authentic Mexican food. Like Chile Rellenos, Entomatadas, Pozole, Tamales, Chicken with Mole, etc. God Bless you all!
@@brynn1995 Hi there :) I completely understand that; they just have been trying different cultural foods ever so often and it was a suggestion. I’m glad the kids and the family in general have been trying foods from different cultures.
@MelissaMercedesDK1992 I didn’t say she was starving. They are awesome parents. I didn’t say anything about the parents either. Read what I said and stop insinuating and assuming. Thanks
So happy you guys were willing to try my cultures food! Xiao Long Bao(pronounced shou(like the word "shout")-lung baah-ow) is commonly known as "soup dumpling" so when you eat it, you typically eat it with a spoon so that soup doesn't fall everywhere, it should also come with a sauce and it's usually vinegar with slices of ginger in it. A good and common way to eat xiaolongbao is to puncture a hole, suck out the soup, then pour a little sauce into the hole so that the meat can soak it up. Then you shove the whole bao into your mouth! Super delicious, and there's many types as well using different kinds of meats. I can go on and on about my culture's food haha. A small side note for the future, I tell this to anyone learning how to use chopsticks, 1. all five fingers are used when holding chopsticks. Obviously some fingers do more and other fingers are used more as a support, for me, i use my pinky and ring as a support while i carry the chopsticks with three fingers. 2. never stick your chopsticks into your food when you're not using them, it is seen as extremely disrespectful, instead lay them flat on your bowl or the table. i've rambled long enough but you can search up the extra details! I don't know everything but I'm open to questions as well!
So in regards to Xiaolongbao, they are traditionally eaten for breakfast and come from the Jiangsu city of Changzhou I've always adored Chinese history, architecture, and culture ever since they hosted the 2008 Summer Olympics (which the ceremonies were masterpieces) so this vid is up my alley. It inspired me to learn Mandarin and calligraphy
There is nothing fancy about China. The people are brainwashed Communists and their President is a Dictator and they support Russia. Don't forget what they do with their own people and ethnic minority groups like Muslims or the Uyghurs. They put them into internment camps like concentration camps during WWII
Is it odd that I like soup wontons/dumplings but if they are not soaked inside soup I can't handle the texture? Is this common with dumplings or is my texture issues a me problem?😝
@@outoftheklosset I don't think that it's weird! I think that a lot of texture is all just stimulation based and sometimes you don't like the way some things feel - totally normal and luckily there are a lot of other dumplings that don't have any soup at all lol
I have absolutely loved watching Luke grow up and develop. He is so full character. I had quite a terrible day and seeing his excitement in this video made me cheer up.
I’m Japanese but I just wanted to let you know that it’s considered rude/not good to stab the food with chopsticks (I’m guilty of doing this too sometimes because it can be hard to pick up some things)! Using chopsticks 🥢 is already hard enough and all of you are doing great but I hope this extra info helps!! Sending love from Tokyo 🇯🇵 🗾
I remember Bailey not eating gluten when she was younger. Can she tolerate it now that she’s older? Love seeing all the kids open to trying new things!
You sure you feeding these kids? they seem really excited to eat lmao im just kidding. you guys look like you always have so much fun together and its cool they get to try authentic foods like that :) even little luke was real passionate about it lol
I love that the kids are encouraged to try new foods and are excited to do so. I wish this was something I did more of when I was young because now I’m not adventurous at all when it comes to food!
Currently nursing my 3 week old, and now I am even more hungry! I love how excited each kid is. So fun! Can’t wait to have fun like this when my baby is their age ❤️
If they have a smaller-portion Dim Sum menu there or at another place in the area, I'd recommend that (at least for the older kids). It'll give them a chance to try new cuts of meat, like Chicken feet -- which I personally love, or other new combinations.
I love how the kids act like they've never been fed when you do one of these videos 😂😂😂 (Edit: I personally think it's just the excitement of new/different/non-ordinary foods that gets them going and makes them look ravenous. But by the end of the video they've always calmed down. We see them eating normal meals a lot in their videos, both that Christopher and that kids make. The three older ones are totally capable of feeding themselves as needed. Its just funny how feral they seem at the beginning trying to quickly gobble eveything up 😂😂😂).
@@houseofbows you must be new here!?Let me assure you that Bailey, Jacob, Parker, Duncan, Luke, Teddy, Rue, Jessica & Chris are very well fed and not to mentioned more cultured than most! Being that they are a HUGE family ordering take out is likely not something they are able to afford to often do! For a family of 9 I’m sure it can be very expensive I know ordering take out for just myself is expensive most of the time! I found it to be rather obvious they did the tasting of each dish instead of plating the food because they were filming video & chose to do it in that format to make for a better food tasting type vibe! The video is focused on them trying some new Chinese dishes they may have never tried in honor of the lunar new year! All of the members of the Ballinger family are very expressive human beings! Whether it be food, a ride at Disney, traveling somewhere new, sponsoring a child, opening a gift, giving a hug, things from very simple to very detailed they always express themselves in such a beautiful way! I wish I could be more like them when viewing the world because it must be such a beautiful way to live with hearts full of such gratitude, joy, love etc (I could go on and on)! I am sure as soon as they were done filming they all were able to get a plate and dish out any and everything they wanted of what was left! It’s also very likely one of them had some type of cooking class that evening where everyone got to try whatever was on the menu too! Stick around and watch this family for sure because you will soon learn this is one of the most loving, giving, adventurous, entertaining, humble, funny, real families in the world! I know for a fact every single one of them would share their last piece of food with a stranger! So please don’t feel bad for them because they are living lives most of ours only dream of!
So cool to see you trying Chinese food! I’m half Chinese-you should definitely try foods from a Chinese bakery! Moon cakes are serves for lunar new year, and so many other good sweet treats like egg custard tarts, or my favorite gai mei bao, which has this delicious coconuty filling
@@NychCwOfficial I’m not sure lol!! I have so many memories of eating them as a child on Chinese New Year… I’ve been quarantined for so long now I’m not even sure where to look now!
loved seeing you all try chinese food and your open minds when it came to everything! stinky tofu is still hard for me and my parents have been trying for years so props to you all:) on lunar new year there are a bunch of different foods that are eaten but in china there are traditionally dumplings, fish, oranges, and rice cakes since these all represent prosperity and good fortune! would definitely recommend all of them
I really, really love how all the kids are willing to try something at least once. Christopher and Jessica, you two have done very well raising them :). I'd love to see you all try Indian food!
@@Kaykay04822 You are ignorant. You do not know this. If you were a viewer of this channel, you’d see that they eat as much as a normal human should. I cannot stand people who blindly accuse without looking into things. What you say can be damaging to people.
Awesome cultural experience! Xiaolongbao is supposed to be a soup dumpling, with the soup being INSIDE of the dumpling. A lot of times this can be SUPER hot, so you usually use those special spoons and break open the dumpling to let the soup inside cool down. I love Mapo Tofu with white rice (but this is often spicy), scallion pancakes, zhajiangmian or dessert- dragon's beard candy! When I lived in Japan, I always ate these at our local Chinese districts. I especially think the kiddos would love that dragon's beard candy!
So my dad used to work for a predominately Chinese city as their special events coordinator. At one of their annual festivals, they would always have a stinky tofu vendor until the smell got so bothersome to those not fond of the treat that the city eventually banned stinky tofu from being sold at these events. It left the city divided- half were delighted they could go to the festivals in peace, and half were angry they couldn’t get their stinky tofu fix anymore lol
The first character in Xiao Long Bao (小笼包) is pronounced SHEEOW. It means small or little! Long is the character for “dragon”. I lived in Taiwan for two years, and enjoyed trying so many new foods during Lunar New Year. Thank you for introducing your family to different cultures. So cool!
Depending how/where you’re raised(at least in my Vietnamese family), spring rolls tend to be fried and are closed with egg, hence the words egg roll, and spring roll is more like fresh veggies. So it’s always important to ask your server to specify which is which before you order.
this was my first time watching this channel so excuse me if this is how they normally do things. but i believe each person should have gotten their own plate of food with some of each food item to try, with reviews done at the end of "favorites" and "least favorites." this method was tedious to watch with each person eating a bite of each thing - i'll bet it was tedious for those involved too lol. just some tips for next time
Hello! Yup, we usually dip dumplings into vinegar with shredded ginger! Xiao long bao is actually soup dumpling and you may want to look up the pronunciation hahahahha it’s difficult to type it out the correct pronunciation 🤣 also, I can’t stand the smell of stinky tofu too 😅
I’ve never heard someone say they love food so much then I have with Bailey 😂😂 I don’t think I’ve ever heard her not like anything she’s tried she tries to be so passionate looking for the camera, The kids are so good at trying new food it’s amazing.
Yay! As a Singaporean Chinese, i was surprised to see this video and loved it! Try the Man Tou (Deep Fried Bun) in savoury sauce like Chilli Crab sauce oof that hits the spot!! Glad you guys enjoyed most of the food even trying stinky tofu!! The sauce you thought would be soya sauce was probably vinegar, as we often eat dumplings with vinegar and sliced ginger. I don’t love ginger but the vingear is great to go with dumplings. And what a coincidence as i’m having lunch now and had bought fried dumplings as well. 😂😅
I absolutely LOVEEE how willing your kids are to try everything! It’s insane I’ve never seen kids let alone adults be that open to trying things. And I love that Bailey adores everything she tries it’s amazing. I love your family - y’all make me so happy!!!
Watching Parker try wonton soup and all the kids and Chinese food…something I eat every time I need comfort …love this video and making me want to order Chinese ASAP!!
Your kids are such adventurous eaters! It’s so wonderful! I’m proud of Parker for going back in and trying the meat part of the stinky tofu! And I love drinking soup!!
Enjoy all of your videos. So impressed by your patience and optimism with what you are going through. I have 2 adult children, I don't think l would have handled your situation the way you did. Also want to say Luke and Duncan are so stinking cute.
i think a bit of both. he is an entertainer at heart just like his antie panties. he seems to be a very happy kiddo and loves to make others laugh and put on a show!
I think it’s really cool how you all are open to trying new foods. Y’all should try filipino food. I recommend pancit, lumpia, chicken adobo, turon, and halo-halo. All are pretty popular dishes so I think y’all would really enjoy them.
I love how adventurous your kids are with food. We only ate Mexican, American and Italian growing up. I didn't try my first asian foods until I was in my 20's. I've come to love so many ethnic food over the last few years! My parents really missed out!
after seeing you guys film majority of the time from home in the last 2 years due to the pandemic, its super trippy to see a different background now xD Glad you are continuing to teach about cultural diversity, and I wish you all the best with the house issues!
Love your kids and I truly love their adventure with food, but I have to say - they always say that it’s the best thing they have ever tasted lol! I have only been a fan for a few months and it’s so funny, any ting new they eat, that is the best thing I have ever had lol!
the xiaolong bao is a soup-filled dumpling. so when you eat it, try not to rip the skin of the dumpling. that way, when you eat it, you get a delicious burst of flavourful soup in the dumpling! ❤️❤️❤️
As someone who's parents are both from Hong Kong and I spent my childhood visiting family in Hong Kong seeing you try stinky tofu was so nice! And it's always so great how open minded the whole family is on trying new foods. Hong Kong street food is such a nostalgic thing for me. My other favourite Hong Kong street foods are curry fish balls (fish meatballs cooked in curry sauce), deep fried pig's intestines, fresh roasted chestnuts, and street siu mai, which is actually fish siu mai, not pork when you get it on the side of the road :) ALSO I know the kids really liked the deep fried dough, but I think they also really liked the condensed milk part. When I was a kid my mom used to give me strawberries or fruits and put a little bit of condensed milk on it as a kid and I think they'd really like that if they really liked that dessert! and it's definitely healthier than fried bread with it haha. If I had to recommend more Chinese dishes to try, definitely would recommend you trying BBQ pork or BBQ duck if you want to have the kids branch out and try some duck. Both are pretty staple. I would say beef chow fun, it's a flat rice noodle dish that's really flavourful. Hanaan chicken rice is also great, it's seasoned broiled chicken with rice cooked in the chicken broth. Congee if you're feeling traditional, it's like a hot rice pudding soup, very comforting to eat in the winter and common to eat for if you're sick or have an upset stomach. I also think Rice noodles (cheung fun) would be super fun, it's steamed wrapped rice noodles that gets covered in sweet soy sauce, and then you dip it in a kind of peanut butter sauce and hoisin sauce. I think the kids would really like that. And then finally sticky rice wrapped in a lotus leaf if you're also feeling traditional. Generally inside is rice with an egg yolk & meat.
Wow. Parker needs a lesson on not disrespecting other cultures’ cuisines. “That’s not for my palate” or “I don’t think that’s in my taste preferences” is all they need to say, not the screaming and overreaction that makes people feel judged.
Hum... What ? 1. He's just a child. 2. He's allowed to not enjoy some food, and he obviously didn't intend any disrespect. 3. As for his reaction, that's Parker you're talking about, he's overdramatic and we all love him for that haha
He is 8! 🙄 And he eats a lot bigger palate of tastes than most 8year olds! Everyone likes different foods, him saying he doesn't like it is not disrespecting people who do.
@@barneysarmy1939 He doesn’t have to like it. Did you even read my comment? His words were offensive to Chinese people who consider this dish part of their heritage. He needs to learn to simply say, “That’s not for me, but I’m glad I tried something new to me.”
@@lucieleairth He is old enough to have been taught not to say rude things about others’ cultures. Notice I didn’t say anything about Luke’s reaction, because he is too young to understand yet.
The food looked interesting and delicious! The kids really enjoyed it so much. My mouth was watering watching how much they liked it. I’m ordering Chinese for dinner. Luke is adorable!!!💖🥰
Yummy! Love Chinese food Earlier this afternoon I went to Colleen’s channel and searched for *OLD* videos. Found a lot of videos from when *Bailey* was a baby. It’s amazing how time flies! 😭
I don't know if anyone's mentioned it, but over here in Hong Kong, the stinky tofu we usually have from street stalls is one large piece of deep-fried tofu that you'll eat with sweet sauce from inside a paper bag. Side note: The wolfberry in the sweet soup is commonly known to be good for your eyes, and the fungus is eaten after menstruations and avoided before because of its high value in iron and help with "blood replenishment". Side side note: We usually have the deep-fried buns as breakfast. **Disclaimer: Just speaking from experience as a Hong Kong born-and-raised. Lots of love from over here!
Lunar new year is not only celebrated by Chinese people and that is why we call it Lunar New Year’s instead of Chinese new year because more than just Chinese people celebrate it
it would be fun if you did a whole lunar new year series and did food from all of the countries who celebrate it! highly suggest korean food, it's my fav!!
you guys should try the fried stinky tofu just dry and by itself without the sauce and pig feet - maybe parker would like that better bc it takes away the spice - it usually comes with a coleslaw-like side that pairs really well and cleanses your palate - stinky tofu is definitely one of those things where you have to get more used to the flavor but i think it’s so worth it !!! so fun seeing you guys try it !!
Stinky tofu is a classic street food in Taiwan. Also bubble tea originated in Taiwan as well. I love seeing you all take interest in trying new foods and learning about other cultures. Taiwanese food (not to be confused with Thai food) is extremely interesting overall. Xiao long bao (小籠包) is also known here as soup dumplings…. The x is more like a ‘sh’ sound. The best way to enjoy them is to bite a small hole in the dumpling skin, drink the soup (careful, it can be scalding hot), and then eat the dumpling. It’s also way easier to eat them on a spoon.
