Trying DUMB 5 Minute Craft Summer Hacks

Can we all agree how FANTASTIC Jay’s editing skills were in this? Absolutely hilarious Kris, I can’t believe the amount of effort you put into this. And the fact that you were soggy the whole time was hilarious. I think this is definitely the best trying five minute craft videos you’ve ever done. In my opinion I think you should do another your characters react to tick tok videos, they always crack me up as well. Thanks for making me laugh my butt off today, love you Kris♥️

The pants life-vest thing actually does work, they taught us how to do this in basic, but that video didn't explain it well. You're not just beating the water, it's more of a scooping motion because you're scooping air into the pants. It failed here because 1) the original video didn't explain the scooping motion properly to begin with, and 2) the kiddie pool isn't deep enough. But it 100% does work if done right.

Former lifeguard here. The pants survival method does work (even in that kiddy pool). The idea is to scoop air in by holding the waistband with both your hands on the surface side of the pants and over the surface of the water scoop down towards your feet until full, never letting go of waist band. Then just hold the opening tightly down when full with a grip with at least one of your hands. The legs act as a makeshift life preserver around your neck. Fun fact for the dumb craft. 😅

6:24 *Full-time four-eyes here.* You want a good anti-fog treatment that isn’t fuckin dumb? Get some soap-hand soap, body wash, dish soap, whatever-rub it on the lenses of your goggles/glasses, and then wipe them with a DRY towel/cloth/napkin with no liquid on it, and wham, you got glasses/goggles that don’t get foggy.

Thank you for your lovely compliments Kris- and as a diver myself, an easier way then burning it and using toothpaste is to spit in them, wipe it around, dunk it and wash it out in water, and try to not breathe through your nose- it really does depend on different goggle styles, but it's a solid trick for if you forgot the spray on stuff :>

I HATE flicking my nails. I almost cry every time. Hurts so gotdang much. Edit : just wanna give a little love to Jay AND Kris for the fact that he NEVER allows her videos end with an awkward or unattractive facial expression and she just has an absolutely LOVELY face in general. Her sunny disposition is always an inspiration, especially because she deals with her depression yet still never allows it to run her life. I hope for the day that I can manage to do that for myself.

By the time someone actually ties a double knot in the pants, the drowning person will already have drowned. Kevin peeking around the corner when she was stabbing the flipflop with a knife was both hilarious and adorable. "Uh, mom? You okay? Why are you stabbing the flipflop with a knife?" And kudos to Jay for the hilarious editing. Two thumbs up!

The pants life preserver really does work. I learned how to do it in lifeguard training back in high school. Except we were taught to capture air by flinging the pants opening over our heads and down into the water(Like when you submerge a cup upside down and catch an air bubble). Also, we were in a 12 ft (3.6ish meters) deep pool. You do a great job with the videos Kris!

I am genuinely surprised that the lighter, toothpaste goggle situation actually worked. 😱 And those underwater pictures actually looked kind of good, might have been better in a bigger pool, but you have to work with what you have, and the kiddie pool worked great. 😁 Jessica and Kevin best assistants ever! More videos with Jessica might be fun. Maybe find some more 5-minute crafts that require a friend. Or maybe play another game like the whisper challenge but maybe using ‘Speak Out’ or something.

The one with the pants as a floatation device I actually learned in school for PE...we had swimming for a quarter in 9th grade. I think your pool just wasn't deep enough, but we were also taught to blow air into them, not beat the water.

The pants thing is actually true, when taking lifeguard training we were taught that if we were having difficulty swimming in any situation to use our clothes. You have to take them off, they'll either be wet or make them wetter because when the cloth is wet the threads get bigger and don't release air, then you catch air bubbles in them. For example, if you cup your hand you'll probably get an air bubble in it if you submerge it facing down. It sort of makes a life jacket.

Love how Kris complimented our shirts even though mine is faded, literally has holes in it, and I've resorted to using it as pajamas. Thank you so much Kris, I love your videos!

I will admit the "hack" for the goggles was told to me multiple times at dive shops and by dive instructors. The lighter takes the plastic film off the glass goggles and the toothpaste is a very good defog, you can also put baby shampoo in before using them as a good defog. Most dive boats I go on do that. But spitting in them also works surprisingly well too if you don't have that stuff. (I am a certified scuba diver but others my have different opinions about it. this is just things I've done/been told)

The shower bag trick might have gone better with a smaller pointy object and a little less stab happy Kris... The pants as flotation devices... Here enters sister Jessica as the camera minion and lifeguard, she fits the roles perfectly! The pants trick probably failed due to little water and mostly because it being fresh water, as I believe that you need salt water to clog the tiny holes in the fabric. Valiant attempt and so dramatically reenacted! Foggy goggles success! Kris really loves that pool, I'm guessing a permanent one is on the to do list? Kris and Jessica mermaid cosplay? Do I have to beg, because I absolutely will beg for this to be realized! Underwater photoshoot, that absolutely broke me! Big thanks to Jessica for the camera work, I retract the minion comment earlier because the camera work was just perfect! From the start to the end, dry with fresh makeup on or water drenched with partially washed out makeup, Kris is absolutely gorgeous throughout including the "grimy" feet that follow the gorgeous standard as the rest of Kris! Thanks again to Jessica for being a good sister and helping Kris out with the video, thank you for making this possible! The floaty pants thing is something that one of the world navies researched around the turn of the 20th century (1900). The idea is that materials like heavy canvas and dense cotton will hold air when wet. You have to keep the waistband below the water and the "beating" is to pull air bubbles below to be caught. Not sure this was ever adopted by the USN, but they did spend a lot of money on these sorts of techniques. The lighter in the mask trick is for Glass and Carbide lenses. Those cheap plastic lenses melt. Personally, my Dad and I always just used the spit method when we went snorkeling. The bag of water is an old camping trick. I think the scouts still teach it. It is VERY tricky to get a decent flow. I recommend a tub (small dish size) or bowl if you want to actually wash your hair. The bag is best saved for rinsing off. Side note: Ever tried the dry oatmeal method? Works in a pinch in the middle of nowhere, but I've never heard the opinion of someone who really cares about their hair.

The goggles "craft", yeah, I'd call that more of a life hack. And that is a good life hack for snorkelers and scuba divers. I am a certified scuba diver(been a few years since I last went, so prolly need a refresher course) and they make anti-fog gel for goggles. My instructor told us that if we were ever tight and couldn't buy the gel that toothpaste would work. It's not quite as good as the gel but it works great for a much cheaper option. From what I remember, you don't need the lighter. Just rub the toothpaste around like you did and swish it in water to remove the excess. Then when it's all clear, you're good to go.

The pants does work when done correctly. It's actually something the military learn how to do in case of emergency evacuation. I served in the USA Navy and we were trained to use our uniforms as floatation devices. Filling up the pants with air by opening up the wast above the water to capture the air. This is better done in a large pool or ocean.

For the pants - sailors wore bell bottoms for this reason. They could knot the legs and fill them with water by just scooping the water in. If you spit in goggles and then rinse - the will be antifog. Things I learned from my Dad who was in the Canadian Navy and was a SCUBA diver.

The pants life saver floatie thing may work but if someone is drowning, they aren't in the position to see you throw it and the pants will likely not help unless the not drowning person jumps in and helps. Seriously. Drowning = not being able to stay at the top of the water. Which is where the air is. The air that needs to go into the pants.

The cargo pants thing is actually true. I went to a military college, and we have a required swimming class. In that class we have to do various survival techniques. We had to go to the deep end of the pool, and then use the cargo pants we had on (we had bathing suits on as well) and make it into a flotation device. Worked well if you did it right.

The pants thing works. It's part of basic swim qualification in Marine Corps boot camp 👍 I wouldn't expect it to work in 3" of water in a kiddie pool though, and it's easier to just pick up the open waist end, and scoop air from.. the air, to inflate than trying to throw air down into it. But, both ways to work.

Anything thin metal you need to break: Just bend back and forth (or twist and bend if applicable) until it gives in to material stress. No need to pull hard :)

Only fantastic Kris would snorkle in a kiddie pool lol. That's not true, I would probably do it too. You have a couple of military things going on in there lol. You got the field shower and SORT of the water rescue. We were taught to take off our boots, take off our pants, tie the legs and fill them with water but it was just done a different way than what 5 minute crafts did it. Who knows though, they may have changed it. It's been a really long time since I went through basic training.

Hi kris. I can tell you why the scuba mask hack worked for you. I am a scuba instructor. When the mask is made, the spray the inside of it with a very thin layer of silicone to protect the glass. The lighter burns off the silicone, and the toothpaste cleans the residue. Once that is done, you can spray the inside of the mask with baby shampoo and water mix. (I use 1 part baby shampoo and 2 parts water and it works great!) Love your channel. I truly hope this gets read on one of your videos. And here is my challenge for you… if this comment gets 100K likes, you come out to Guam and take scuba lessons with me. All the best!!

The water trick with the pants actually works when you are in deeper water. In the Army they taught us to use our tops to do basically the same thing, so I know the pants trick works.

I think a few Emmy nods should be suggested for this masterpiece . Kris for Lead Actress in a Drama. Kevin for supporting actor for a Drama. Jessica should get the nod for best cinematography and Jay for editing single- camera editing.

6:41. Oh, dear Kris. Basic chemistry. Pull the lighter further away from the object of your demise to ensure a proper 'carbon based' flame. You see close to the lighter it is mostly Butane gas burning, which is why the flame appears more blue in color, however, further away, you will notice the flame getting a more amber glow to it. this is because carbon in the air has now started mixing with the gas. And it is in fact also this carbon that would cause the blackening of the lenses... You're welcome🤪

tip to take the thingy off the can: basically just push it back and forward a bunch of times and it comes off really easy after! I could not bear to watch you struggle with that any longer 🤣

Fun fact the navy makes their uniforms (or at least used to) so they can be filled with air and used as a floatation device in an emergency. Also the burning of the mask does in fact work it is one of many defogging tricks. Other things that work is baby soap and water, defogging gel, and if all else fails spit also works (but is kind of gross). My guess for the reason burning it works is the fact that soot is extremely hydrophobic but that is just a guess it could be something else entirely.
