Nothing ruins a good night out like the next mornings hangover. What we eat to combat this evil however is important. I asked you all the best hangover foods in your country and went to the kitchen to cook and try them myself.
Five of you lent helped me out and I want to say a huge thank you to Leonor (@leonor_ar_), Ainé (@aine_rafferty_), Tahiri, Khulan (@oneeaday), and Parscan (@parscan_pars)
Recipes I followed (and tweaked):
Torta Ahogada: www.mexicoinmykitchen.com/tor... (For the sauce, I used canned plain tomato sauce)
Kottu: blog.arousingappetites.com/ko... (But I didn't use japaleno, I used green chili)
Bantan: www.mongolfood.info/en/recipe... (I used beef bones for the broth and 1/2 beef bullion cube)

I love how your format has subtly changed. Instead of you talking about the food during the cooking stage, you bring in the people of the food. It really puts the food to perspective! The world is so big, and it’s not just “American”. Instead, we live in a great big world with millions of foods that span millions of miles. Isn’t that cool???

@@jonl8306 I've connecting all the dots when it comes to food history and "trade". Like, beryl shared 5 different recipes with spam from around the world! I think for me when I take in account to dumplings: a dumpling is just flour and water with some sort of filling. Well, when you look at the landscape of China, a huge country, but they have different dumplings from region to region. A Momo is found in the country of Tibet, but the fillings ARE totally different due to its region and proximity to India. A momo is a dumpling, but its totally different from a dumpling from shanghai or Xian. AND THIS IS JUST DUMPLINGS. Imagine the differences if you trace the history of breads from around the world. A flour, yeast or no yeast, and water. We truly live in a great big world with billions of stories behind the foods we eat.

Yesss. You can customize kottu amd come up with your own kottu. She made vegetable kottu here. You can add any meat or egg or can add white source/cheese and give it a mac and cheese vibe. Or you can cut every thing into big chunks and make dolphin kottu. Chicken kottu and cheese kottu are my favourites

My mother's kottu roti is absolutely amazing and I'll put the recipe down below. We eat meat so there is chicken in it. But u can replace it with anything and u don't need the egg either. 1. Make a chicken curry. It needs to be as flavourful as possible and quite runny. Kinda like a Sri Lankan chicken gravy. 2. Chop up some roti or parotta, white cabbage, carrots and onions. 3. Pick out SOME chicken pieces from the gravy and pick them apart and put to the side. Remove all bones. 4. Sautee the vegetables and roti in a big pan and add lots of the chicken gravy but not all. 5. Add an egg or two if u want and put those chicken pieces in. 6. And it's done. You can eat it with some more gravy or just eat it as it is.

The American version of the "party's over at 2AM and I need to eat" food is basically any fast food place that's open late (usually Taco Bell or a sketchy burger joint) or anything from an all-night diner (sometimes a burger, but chicken and waffles is sometimes considered that kind of food or just a stack of pancakes).

From Germany as well and I always find that funny too. The same goes for the Irish potato farls. Of course there is Kartoffelpuffer/Reiberdatschi from raw potato dough but there also are Swiss Rösti and Austrian/Bavarian Schupfnudeln/Fingernudeln. (And even some elaborate potato dough pastry filled with apples.) Then on the other side of the world in Korea they have Gamjajeon again with raw potato dough... The dipping sauces and side dishes vary but potato dough pancakes seem to be quite popular internationally. I'm sure there are even more countries that have them...
@Charlzton
@Charlzton 3 года назад
Id say for Kottu it's rare for them to make it with a fresh purpose-made gravy- all the ones I've seen in Trinco, Colombo etc are made with leftover curries! That way the flavour is much stronger and the kottu itself helps avoid waste

One of the things that I enjoy about you channel in that you teach. It’s amazing to now about the food and a little bit about the culture. That’s what sets you apart from other channels.

Beryl! I’ve spent some time in Ulaanbaatar! If you’ve never heard the Mongolian language, give it a listen. It is the coolest! It sounds like a cross between Russian and an Asian language! It’s beautiful!

Both the Mongolian soup and the Cyprus halloumi roll sound like something I would seriously try making. I think Mum would like the halloumi roll in particular, because vegetarian, so Cyprus? You good people! - From Australia. Also Mongolia? You too! :)

I love you. I think what I love most about your episodes is the rawness we get with the grainy video shot in people's bedrooms all over the world, since that's everyone's reality right now. I've been watching foodie shows since what, 2002 (probably Bourdain and Cook's Tour) and I mainly watch them for inspiration. You inspire me to actually cook! Happy New Year.

@@PlaceboEllie how ignorant. Perhaps he studied abroad.
@PlaceboEllie
@PlaceboEllie 3 года назад
@@chesca7295 it's not ignorant, there are still British military bases in Cyprus. It makes sense that anyone learning English would learn it with a British accent, and being a former protectorate, would tend to learn it in the "older" style accent from that time. I think it's more ignorant to ignore that Britain's colonial legacy still continues to impact those countries
@Ja-uu9ep
@Ja-uu9ep 3 года назад
@@PlaceboEllie I know what you're saying but just beccause it was an old colony doesn't mean he'd have a posh accent. It just means he had someone teach him who was posh - and it is also entirely plausible that he could have studied in the UK in London or something.
