@@llyydd grabbed some yesterday. Besides the spicyness, is the skin meant to have some of the original skin flavour? Can honestly say the wicked wings I had tasted flavourless, apart from the spice
I am a 72 year old New Zealander. I was still a High Schooler when Kentucky Fried Chicken came to New Zealand. It was at Royal Oak near Onehunga and was only take away. My id brother and I would queue with huge lines of people right down the street to get Kentucky Fried. The menu was chicken, mashed potato, coleslaw and bread rolls. It was very novel. It was years before McDonalds came to Porirua. But I have seen the decline of quality to the chain in New Zealand, now called only KFC. There is also a careless attitude to their customers. Obviously, as a senior citizen I don't buy fast food that much, but long ago I decided to ditch KFC because their food is crap, as is their customer service. Also ditched Burger King, because they took hot drinks off their menu. A dumb idea if you want older customers.
@@Rautz. Yes, there is a new KFC restaurant building in Royal Oak now. When I was there last, the old building was still there but occupied by another business.
@@resrevr I remember the deliveries in the early 90s, I forgot about the corn though. Or are you talking about a different time period for corn and deliveries
I am 72 on Friday and I remember KFC coming to Panmure. I had a new suzuku 50 and I would take my gf from Howick to get KFC. The KFC in NZ has gone down hill. Just been in Bali & Lombok for 3 weeks, couldn't believe how moist and nice the chicken was everytime. Ordered 3 chicken thighs everytime,, no problem . Here the answer mostly is no and it is more often than not greasy
They don't use MSG in the chicken products. The KFC in N.Z. you need a mortgage out to get a feed for a family of one. Too expensive to feed 2 or more people without getting a third Job. I'd eat the hot and spicy chicken only dunk in mashed potatoes and gravy. I can make a cup of coffee from the sugar of the coleslaw.
Biggest problem is the oil they use and the low temp they keep it at oil needs to be smokin hot for nice crunchy chicken instead of the soggy mess you usually get from them.
That snack burger looked pretty damn good, if you ever make it over to Wales you should try out our KFC and see how it compares to the states and New Zealand!
KFC can be very hit or miss. I've found that once you go to a good KFC store, you go back to that one specifically. And I normally steer clear of "limited time" items or weird specialties and just stick to the chicken, wicked wings, or the new Hot and Spicy boneless (but you have to have it fresh as). If i had to chose a burger, normally the Zinger burger is my go to.
Always been very hit and miss for me. The only thing that never disappoints me is the popcorn chicken, but for some reason it's like $7 for a tiny box these days.
Wicked wings and the zinger range is what I get at KFC. Good thing you upgraded that snack burger, the basic one is horrible. Like others have said it is very hit or miss, which i find is based on location.
Good call going in vs drive thru. Many years, like decades ago, drive thru was the best way to get a random selection of what you ordered. (Also you are best to go to the bigger/throughout ones while they’re reasonable busy so the items are recently cooked
You should've tried the Wicked Wings which aren't available in many countries and is spicy and a better burger than the snack burger one has pineapple in it and bacon for example.
Kfc is mostly crap these days bro, some stores are better than others but nearly always takes half an hour + to get your order , slimey greezy half cold stinking dinnerbox , chips are usually cold and whiter than george bush , wicked wings are ok but thats bout it...
Another sorry from another kiwi lol Fyi none of us kiwi's order the slider either as thats a waste of money to start with for how small it is lol thank you for another awesome video
Because there is no real competition for KFC here in New Zealand, their prices are crazy high, and quality, crazy low. It use to be good, but declines year over year. They don’t hire enough staff. And you get one manager who hires only their friends and family. Just gross.
It really comes down to what time of day you visit; whether the store is typically busy, especially if there are other KFC stores nearby to compare to. Generally, the best time to go is when they first open for the day as that's when the fryers are most likely to be clean and the oil fresh and therefore the first few batches of food will be the best. This will not occur in a place that is very busy or somewhat understaffed/under-skilled/disorganised as these things will tend to be left until absolutely necessary. You will have a bad experience if these things are not met as you will be waiting a very long time during busy times of the day (and year) to get what amounts to an often super-greasy chicken (the first few batches are never that bad because the oil actually drips off properly), soggy fries and who knows what else. Country Fried Chicken is often better. I'm not alone in saying that I'm sure of it.
KFC NZ was really good years ago I couldn't wait to have more but now it's so bad . I do try it probably once every two years to see if it's better but it only gets worse. Bring back the old days when it wasn't soggy
My biggest issues with KFC in NZ are that the quality of your order is very inconsistent, they often miss things! Secondly, the restaurants I always find dirty inside. KFC wicked wings and the potato and gravey are great though... assuming they don't cook it wrongly.
Haha, it reminds me of a BK visit where they gave us frozen apple pies. As far as KFC goes - definitely not a favorite. Tried it in Japan a couple of years back ... no better there either. Enjoy you vids, thanks.
KFC in my town in NZ is always absolutely disappointing. They always forget to salt the fries, forget items from your order, the chicken is sloppy and super greasy and the last couple of times I've eaten there its given me the shits. Not to mention how expensive KFC has gotten I now only have the local country fried chicken, which is very affordable and tasty
I eat KFC once every 5 yrs to remind me how crappy it is , to be fair we don’t eat McDonalds KFC ,Wendy’s ,Pizza Hut etc etc because it’s all crap . Best burger home made lamb burger with beetroot , tomatoes, cheese , egg , salads and tūī ketchup with best foods mayo as a dressing . Toasted Brioche bun off course 😊
Yes sliders are terrible. I don't know WHY they are on the menu. They are overpriced, too small for what you pay and the taste is below average, I don't know *anyone* that has ever recommended sliders to me. They are a joke and best avoiding.
If it’s disappointing almost every time then don’t bother wasting your money . I stopped buying it for this reason not to mention how long it takes to get served and your food . I can cook way better chicken at home and clean up by the time somebody goes to get KFC and comes back home with it .
You need a different KFC. They are franchises and you got a bad one. Also the time of day, can change the food. Get the bbq slider and the bacon cheese burger or the zinger burger.
I've had some pretty ridiculous issues with kfc nz every single time I've dealt with them, so much so, that I've completely stopped giving them patronage for at least the last five years. I just can't with them anymore.
I should mention that I used to work at a kfc in the states and we ran a tight ship. It was actually great back then. That was in the 90s tho and I haven't been back to the states in over a decade so not sure how it's doing over there now.
NZ KFC is terrible even if you don't have another countries KFC to compare it too. When the KFC NZ parent company (Restaurant Brands) bought up all the Carl's Jr locations in NZ, the quality plummeted overnight. They also own the Pizza hut and Taco Bell franchises in NZ.
My specific branch is actual dog shit. Even at the drive thru they insist on making you wait between 15-45 minutes for a bucket of wings or something similar. It makes me believe they are actually going out and slaughtering the chicken specific to my order. Half the workers lean on benches off their faces high and don't give a fuck. There is grease on every counter top and floor surface and a lot of the time the food is dry and cold by the time it gets to me with one time my fries being frozen. If I could give lower than 1 star on google I would but I can't so yea. If I could get a dollar for every item I have ordered that disappointed me, I would have two weeks of wages.
snack burger is a terrible choice of burger from kfc. get the 'original bacon and cheese' next time. pretty decent but still not really worth it imo. kfc prices are a bit too high for the quality compared to a good burger from any other decent burger joint.
I couldn't agree more Brock, KFC NZ chicken size is pathetic. You get bigger pieces of fried chicken from a bakery and for less money. The only thing KFC chicken has going for it is the spices. My personal favourite is the Zinger Burger combo wih the wicked wings, very nice. I've seen the sliders but for the size and cost its a hard pass for me. Get some wicked wings on your next visit. They may not be as spicy as your used to but they are worth it. As for your desert being frozen, epic failure!
Rotorua city is the worst KFC I've ever been to, and it wouldn't surprise me if it was the worst in the world. The last thee times I've been there they've had no eftpos twice (with no way to leave the drivethru until they took all the cash orders) and the other time they had no chicken. So my last three attempts to buy chicken there have failed, and it has taken me a total of over an hour to come away with one awful burger with awful fries and awful drink. Zero out of ten. It also isn't even cheap any more, I can eat cheaper at a restaurant.
KFC is not KFC it's NZKFC not good. It's poor compared with USA KFC, GB KFC SI KFC not good value. Are the KFC Head quarters in USA checking the quality and value.
NZ KFC is real hit or miss, the standards of some of the franchises are diabolical. If you hear about a decent KFC in NZ, hit that one and avoid the others in the area.
KFC in the states is made with butter milk and corn breading and it's yuk I much prefur NZ KFC but it depends on the branch and turnover The salad in the slider is standard in both NZ & Australia
Let's all be honest with ourselves regarding Kentucky Fried in New Zealand: you look forward to it, but after eating it, you're disappoined in your lifestyle choices. It used to be a treat, but standards have fallen through the floor, while pricing has gone through the roof. What really hurts is I'll go back at some point having forgotten everything I've just said, and will spend too much trying to relive better times.
Haven't been back to kfc for about a month as it was the worst hour and 15mins waiting for chicken to be cooked, we were 8th in line. The group of boys at the front were expressing there displeasure for waiting so long when the drive-through were getting their orders, at one stage the manager a 'woman' came to the counter and said if you dont keep quiet she would close the dine-in side and you all can go home. Some people at the front left vowing never to come back to kfc Fairy Springs Rotorua. You know the kicker from this is im a manager in retail and never in my 40 years have i spoken to customers in that way and demeaning them in that way and to top it of we get home and what do you, know small pathetic pieces of what they call the colonel sanders best and cold chips what a f@#king joke. better sized chicken and chips at the 4square hot and tasty as well.... Rotorua Fairy Springs kfc can f@#koff never ever going back!
As with so much fast food, KFC is s***t; expensive and poor quality - and their customer "service" doesn't have a good reputation either. Wouldn't go near it these days.
Kentucky Fried Crap aka KFC is swill I wouldn't even feed to a dog. We have plenty of good Kiwi takeaway tucker in ENZED, so I cannot understand why people want to shovel American crap food brands into their gob.
@GlobetrottingBrock Best time to go to Upper Hutt is once they open in the mornings. It's more fresher actually all KFC around Aotearoa including down here in the South Island 🏝
