Personally, PH celebrities and Influencers 'embracing' their Morena skins helped a lot in changing thr beauty standards in the PH. Like how Kathryn Bernardo and Nadine Lustre made every one embraced our skin color.

NOT RELATED BUT HI THERE, IT’S NOT TOO LATE TO REPENT, BUT SOON IT WILL BE. YOU’RE NOT PROMISED TOMORROW, REPENT AND ACCEPT JESUS AS YOUR LORD AND SAVIOR. JOHN 14:6 (RSVCE), JESUS SAID TO HIM, “I AM THE WAY, THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE; NO ONE COMES TO THE FATHER BUT BY ME. ACTS 4:12 (RSVCE), AND THERE IS SALVATION IN NO ONE ELSE, FOR THERE IS NO OTHER NAME UNDER HEAVEN GIVEN AMONG MEN BY WHICH WE MUST BE SAVED. HEBREWS 9:28 (RSVCE), AND JUST AS IT IS APPOINTED FOR MEN TO DIE ONCE, AND AFTER THAT COMES JUDGEMENT, SO CHRIST, HAVING BEEN OFFERED ONCE TO BEAR SINS OF MANY, WILL APPEAR A SECOND TIME, NOT TO DEAL WITH SIN, BUT TO SAVE THOSE WHO ARE EAGERLY WAITING FOR HIM. DON’T DIE WITHOUT ACCEPTING JESUS IN YOUR LIFE, IT’S A FEARFUL THING TO ENTER A “CHRIST-LESS” ETERNITY. GOD IS LOVING, MERCIFUL AND FORGIVING. HE'S STILL WAITING FOR YOU TO COME BACK HOME TO HIM, HE STILL LOVES YOU🥰 THE LORD AND SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST IS COMING BACK, BE PREPARED FOR HIS SECOND COMING, HE WOULD LOVE TO BE WITH YOU IN HEAVEN FOREVER!🥰

Umm that depends. The is applied to white people and it is not a thing that pale people face discrimination. And yes it means you can but being too tan is considered trashy. People who do have higher levels of melanin are still discrimination and have been historically (hence the quest people of colour unity). Yes there could be off comments to pale people but they are not barred off from jobs or considered low class, especially if they’re white. It’s not quite comparable as there is still the notion historically that white people/skin is the most sought after due to privileges. So yes there is tanning but it’s specific to while people and only to a certain amount. The attitude is changing but that’s the history.

I just want to say sorry if any element in this video made you feel uncomfortable. The whole intention of this video was to raise awareness on all kinds of beauty out there, including Morena beauty. I wanted to highlight how beautiful Morena can be, and how no one should feel insecure about it. I wanted to emphasize that message through actually recreating its features on my own face, but I’m sorry if you took my actions that way. I’ll be more considerate next time. Thank you!
@raindropssss
@raindropssss 3 года назад
@@jessicaleeseul thank you for the reply! I have no doubt you had good intentions w this vid, it definitely allowed me to revisit my past insecurities as a morena. I’m now glad having tan skin is slowly starting to be celebrated in the Asian community and your vid did that in an interesting way, its definitely a conversation that gets one thinking! Just know that morena is not a fleeting style or trend, a person w lighter skin might not be affected by this subject as deeply as someone with deeper skin may. Rather than a trend, this has to be progress in beauty standards/beyond. I mean we’re all partaking in moving forward whether we like it or not, so let’s move in a positive way! Brown is beautiful, which you emphasized, and I hope people use beauty as a tool to become their best selves rather than something to hide behind. Uplifting those that need it in a community where many find so much joy can make the world of difference on a person’s self awareness and confidence. Now these are big concepts but they are pushed by small things, like your vid! If a yt vid is meant for anything it should allow the viewer to think, sometimes deeply and inward, and there’s definitely a lot of that here! Being uncomfortable can sometimes be a good indicator of growing pains, we can then make the choice to grow into better people. My parents say to get comfortable with feeling uncomfortable! These are the conversations the internet needs and once again I appreciate your reply

Some of us face discrimination, colourism, and racism as a fact of being darker skinned Asians instead of being applauded for how cute our "morena style makeup" looks. I appreciate the intention and the discussion that is happening in this video, but this could have been done differently instead of just wanting to "create a tanned makeup look" like the description states.

Im curious what Americans and Phillipino ppl think of her trying the morena style by making her skintone several shades darker. If a white person does this w/ makeup, then they’re canceled for doing blackface, even if they were doing it to educate people about blackface. This video Could be considered the asian version of that. But if a light skinned asian person does this w trying to look morena, it’s considered okay. Why is that? If a fair skinned, light skinned person with foreigner features like her put on morena makeup, and make her look cool bc her features are more acceptable, isn’t that cultural appropriation? If she did this w/o the context of the video, would it be problematic, or not? People don’t have to do blackface or colorist-related makeup to portray a point in a video. Could she have done it better by using images of actual morena people or inviting them to the video, instead of herself, who is Not a morena by any means? Or do ppl just have their panties in a bunch and get offended by everything? What are your thoughts? I’m not sharing my personal opinion on this topic to keep things neutral, and mainly to ask the viewers what they think.

nah you're right, i think this is kinda weird too and with how educated she seems i think she could've easily got the point across without the makeup aspect of it. a fair skinned asian person "trying on" dark skin gives very much the same feeling as if a white person were to put on blackface to see what it's like to be treated as black. or like when rich people live like they're poor for a day. unnecessary when there's plenty of black people + poor people to share their stories of what it's like. i feel like you shouldn't have to put yourself that much in someone's shoes to feel empathy for them and it's almost a slap in the face that they get to go back to their privilege the very next day. definitely think she had good intentions and it wasn't meant maliciously and it is kind of offputting - but then again it did make me click the video to see what was going on (maybe she could've just left it as clickbait for clicks to hear her speak but not actually done the makeup)

It's really hurtening whenever i feel like i want to fix some makeup on my face, my mom would react furiously ask me where am i going, am i seeing some boys, she often refers to me when i take chance to wear makeup in a free day as "bigaon" she treats it as if something insane, a sickness of a mentally disturbed person, ambisyusa (very negatively), or 'hilas'. Why am i wearing makeup? she always asked "are you meeting a boy?" i really hate itm i just wanted to feel comfortable and confident about myself wearing makeup even in those unnecessary times where i don't even have plans to go outside. She always asks that i purposely wear makeup to impress boys outside, WHEN IN FACT I DON'T EVEN DATE NOR HAVE ANY BOYS AROUND IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD AM FLIRTING< i am not that type of person. She thinks that wearing makeup is only to look pretty for the boys, she don't understand.

You are very mature for your age and seem to be very wise and inquisitive as well. Much appreciation for people like you who visit our country, aiming to understand our values and culture by discovering the history it's all rooted in. I feel like you have a better understanding of the sort of social implications at play here more than some of the actual Filipinos I know-and this is not to put us as Filipinos down, but to underline the kind of issues we face in Philippine society. Like you said, the media controls a lot of how people come to perceive themselves and those around them. There needs to be a lot of work down to tear apart reinforced stereotypes and allow for a more accepting, open-minded society here (and everywhere else in the world!)

Actually there are 3 types of beauty in Philippines this are: •Morena (Moreno for men) before it only refers to a filipino who has brown skin but now it doesn't matter if you're half or not as long as you have dark or brown skin you are considered Moreno/Moreno like half filipino-indian & etc. •Mestiza (Meztizo for men) This only refers to those who's half spanish or has spanish blood or european ancestors, but now even you have American or European features as long as you have fair skin and high bridge nose you are considered Mestiza/Mestizo. •Chinita(Chinito for men) before when we say chinita/chinito it's only for those who have half chinese or has Chinese ancestry bacause even before Spanish came Chinese people already here in Philippines exchanging goods & etc. But now when we say chinita/chinito it's refers to EAST ASIAN look, pale skin & slanted eyes.

i once loved playing basketball sooooo much (often alone), and because of that i was always out under the sun. so, i got darker and started getting comments like, “ang itim mo na!” (“you’ve gotten so dark!”) normally, i would’ve brushed it off. but there’s this negative connotation that was attached to being dark. so every time i looked in the mirror, my mind was conditioned to think, “wow, im so ugly and dark.” i had no control over those thoughts because it was just my mind parroting what society has told me. because of that, i stopped playing basketball-a sport i dearly loved. i avoided going outside. i put all mg efforts and money towards lightening my skin. looking back, i wish i told them, “so? ano naman kung maitim?” (“so? what’s wrong with being dark-skinned?”). if i did that, i might’ve been able to keep my happiness and hobbies that i enjoyed doing-namely, outdoor sports. for years, i was obsessed with pleasing the opinions of others, and i regret that. while i cannot turn back time, i hope people-especially the youth-won’t experience what i, and many others, have experienced. it makes me so happy that things are taking a huge turn towards change. it’s long overdue, but we must continue to condemn colorism.

**I hope that you notice my comment** Omg it’s so interesting bc here in Brazil we usually call ppl like me (with a skin tone between white and black) by “morena(o)” or “parda(o)”... I’m pretty sure that my fellow Latins use this first term as well. Americans (idk that much about the my fellows from de North) usually are pretty mixed with Africans (I mean those who are black) and Europeans (those who are white) or with Native Americans (who usually have a darker skin tone) and Europeans (specially from Portugal, Spain and England for obvious reasons) so that’s why it’s so common having ppl like me (morenos/ pardos) in here. My dad is moreno bc his mom is a black indigenous (as she says) and his dad was white (Portuguese descent), now I’m morena cuz my dad also is and my mom is white/ Italian and ingenious descent (the funniest thing is that she has a “nearest indigenous ancestry” than my dad and she ain’t morena or black). Btw talking about you now: I think that it suited you perfectly!!! Idk which makeup look you prefer but this one looks GORGEOUS on you. If you want to continue doing it go ahead (your free to do wtv you feel comfortable to do with your body since you don’t use against somebody that obviously is not what you’re doing)!! ♥️♥️

Also morena it is spanish, it's came from moro wich it's aomeone that came from the mauritanian or noth Africa and it's mainly refers to someone naturally midle skin and as Moreno means "the tan" (el bronceado it's more of a slang). Meztiza exactly means that and it's interchangable with criollo although criollo it's more of the comon people that lives there

You are right... During monarchy having fair skin was a sign of wealth and status here in the Iberian peninsula. "Pele morena" (this is the Portuguese expression I think in Spanish is almost the same), or tanned skin was associated with the lower classes that usually worked on the farms under the bright sunlight. This days here in Southeast Europe we don't have that anymore. Generally people prefer to look tanned, rather than fair. Sometimes being too fair could be wrongly associated with looking sickish. Also, we have the same word "mestiço", which is basically used to describe a person that is from at least two different ethnicities. My opinion is that it really shouldn't matter in any society what is the tonality of our skin or your ethnicity. We should instead try to build more inclusive societies that teach us to love ourselves and others as we are. ❤️Have a beautiful day ❤️

First and foremost I want to thank you for making this video in enlightening everyone about the history of PH Morena skin tone and how younger generation Filipinos should embrace they’re Morena in them. Growing up I use to be ashamed of my dark appearance due to the fact I was made fun of by my siblings and other family members, but also in the comparison of my mother’s and brothers’ skin tone (they had the natural Mestiza look) I felt like I wasn’t pretty enough and that I didn’t belong. I was told a lot growing up that I didn’t look like my mother’s daughter. Now that I’m older, I love and embrace my Morena complexion; why? Because I am my father’s daughter (my dad had a darker skin tone from working in the rice fields) and I just don’t care what others think of me. ;P

One day, when my friends playfully asked our popular male classmate the question: "jojowain or totropahin and why" ("date them or befriend them and why," it was a trend, a challenge) and it was my turn. A part of me knew he would say "totropahin" (befriend) because i don't fit the today's beauty standards. But he shocked me when he said, "jojowain (date them), because i find exotic girls with brown skin more attractive than girls with fair skin." I was very happy because for once, i finally felt appreciated, that i'm pretty too even if i'm a morena. Proud to be a Morena 💕

I have very pale skin naturally and my mom often tells me to get sun. (Even tho I burn, not tan) 😂 It’s a bit different in America. Colorism/racism certainly still exists, but I find nowadays people favor a tan to pale skin. I think this came about in the 80s when it showed you were more well off so you had more vacation time/more money to spend on tanning sessions/products but this is just an assumption of mine from what I’ve heard. It’s interesting to see how different it is when you hop countries. In a lot of places dark skin still has a negative context due to stuff like you said- the upper class having mixed lineage/havin lots of money and staying inside while the lower class worked in the hot sun- and that’s really unfortunate 😔. We should be able to embrace our skin tones no matter what shade, they’re all beautiful ❤️

Such an important discussion, loved it!! The roots of colorism in the PH and other former Spanish colonies go beyond just the working class being outside more and thus developing darker skin- the indigenous peoples and black Filipinos (and black people’s existence in PH Pre-colonial period rarelyyyy given any acknowledgement, but that’s a whole other story) were purposefully associated with lower socioeconomic classes per a system created by the Spanish/EU elites, with the mestizo class being above the indigenous/black ethnic/social class. The elites created this scale socioeconomic power correlating to the lightness of one’s skin as a method of social/economic oppression of other ethnic communities while elevating themselves. But this is just my base understanding from my brief studies of Spanish colonies, so if anyone has any info to add for a clearer picture, feel free to respond!! (Also, as a filipina, loved watching this vid and seeing the discussions in the comments!! Super important history, allowed for some self-reflection on my own internalization of these beauty standards!)

Are you psychology or some kind of social sciences major? cause you presenting these kind of topics eloquently and sensibly reveals it. Or not? You're really well-spoken and great video as always

@@sofypi7493 they're saying she's well spoken, and good at delivering the words, not at how she's saying new things lmao.

I'm filipino-american, my family has lived in the states a long time now. I guess I'd be considered mestiza for the Philippines because I'm pretty light. But my parents + aunts/uncles who have been here most of their lives say things like "you used to be so tan as a kid, why don't you go in the sun more?" and they think a tan is pretty. Meanwhile I remember my grandma would still use whitening soap. It's interesting how clear the cultural influence is, and the very different beauty standards of these countries.

thank you for talking about this! i did my whole thesis about colorism in the Philippines and i'm so glad that its changing now, albeit slowly, but its a process. i love that more people are much more accepting of their own skin nowadays 😊 every colour is beautiful 💕

I think the point of foundation is to get the correct skin match, rather than making you look paler or darker than you really are. It's true for Koreans that they try to put on a lighter shade, sometimes with no consideration of their yellow undertone. But if a Pinoy tries to apply darker shade than their skin, I think it's safe to say that person doesn't know what it's doing. Maybe you think they're making you look darker, when they're really just trying to find your right shade. My two cents.

it's refreshing to see that viewers have positive feedback towards the video. If this was in US, they might say that this is a black / brown face thingy and find this offensive.
