//TRYING NEW FOOD WITH ARFID | My Eating Disorder Recovery Journey and ARFID Treatment
Picky eating in adults is much more complicated than others think. It's not a choice, but rather a fear response to past food trauma. I've been this way for as long as I can remember and only now am I beginning to see results. Follow along in my eating disorder recovery as I try some new foods I never would have touched before.

Aww thank you!! I honestly wasn't expecting to try any of that food but it's a win in my book!

Are you still able to eat new foods? Did the treatment last long term? That's nothing short of miraculous if so. As you could guess I have ARFID and it's really really bad for me where I'm only eating two foods now. So, if that works I can't imagine what a miracle that would be. I'm so happy for you regardless to have had that success against such an insidious disorder.

I only eat 4-5 kind of meals.. The noodles that i made, and two specific kind of rice, and grabe leaves or just its rice.. And some kind of chips and candy So it's really hard to eat the same things every day and when I can't order food or tired to cook i might stay hungry all the day I love cucumber and tomatos but only with noodles, and i only drink green juice and I'm too lazy to prepare it at home and it's hard to get it from out side.. The doctor that I went to said " do you vomits when you eat other food" i said no, "then eat!!" he replied. I was really upset that he was laughing when I said it's mental thing it's not that easy but he didn't believe me, i hate food it's just making me suffer

Hi. My name is Neala, and I am 14 years old. Since as long as I can remember, since like I was 5 and up I remember being terrified of some foods. I couldn’t go near them, see them, smell them, or eat them. My mom would always tell me how I did when I was younger but honestly now everyone just makes fun of me, chases me with the fear foods, and says I’m dramatic or just picky. Yelling at me to just get over it. But I’m not being dramatic. I can’t eat any fruit, candy, things with a gummy texture, things with a yogurt texture.. certain chips, I can’t drink anything except for water and 2 kinds of sodas, I’m scared of gator ade. When people pull these things out around me, I feel uncomfortable. When it’s near me or I smell it sometimes I freak out or even have a panic attack in some cases. I would rather die a painful death than touch or go near a strawberry. (Just an example, same with most foods and also more than I listed). Do you guys think I have arfid? It’s all gotten worse as I’ve gotten older. I’ve always thought I was going crazy. And even almost resorted to ending my life sometimes, wondering what is wrong with me. But then I discovered arfid…. Where do I start? Where do I get checked out for it? What happens when I’m diagnosed? Do I have arfid or am I being dramatic?

Hi Tatiana! Thank you for sharing your experience in ARFID recovery through hypnotherapy. I am also a female in my 20s battling life-long ARFID. I've worked with a dietitian before and made small progress but since seeing your videos I am now considering hypnotherapy. Is the fear of food and trying new food night and day? With the foods you chose to try directly after your session, is the sandwich with new veggies a huge fear food for you?
@TatianaMarie
@TatianaMarie Год назад
Hi Alexis! Thank you so much for watching. I know the struggle. To answer your question, the fear of trying new food did mostly disappear with the treatment but not completely. It disappeared enough for me in that moment to feel safe to try that new food. Trying that new food then convinced my system that I was able to do it without gagging and that some of it was actually good. In other words, it told my system that it was a safe activity. This helped alleviate the fear a bit more for next time. I've found that the treatment eliminated the fear enough to start trying foods in small amounts and the more I did it afterward, the less fear I had. Until it was all gone. The sandwich was definitely a big fear food, but not the biggest. I would say tomatoes and raw fish are probably some of my biggest. So I chose something that would definitely be challenging for me but not my biggest fear right off the bat. Felix also shares with you a list of foods he thinks are great beginner choices and foods he would avoid for the first treatment. Hope that helps!

@@TatianaMarie Hi Taniana, thanks for all the info. I had a session a few days ago and I'm at the part where I'm forcing myself more to try new foods. I actually felt somewhat capable of trying new foods before the session, but hoped the session would make it easier and remove a lot of the anxiety I have before trying. Unfortunatly, I found that even after the session, I still had similar anxieties to what I usually have, and didn't really help with the fear of trying new foods. I still forced myself to try some new foods though, (raw tomatoes, salads, mushrooms). Personally, I didn't really end up liking any of them, although trying and eating them feels like a good start. I guess my question is, did trying new foods and no longer having anxiety actually help with enjoying foods? E.g, did you ever start enjoying the foods you didn't like after trying them the first time? I'm a little worried, as I've tried quite a few new foods now, but still really dislike all of them and haven't found anything I actually like yet. Will constantly eating small amounts of them each day help with me one day enjoying them?

@@liam4184 Hi Liam! First of all, congrats on trying the new food! I'd say even that is a huge win. In my personal experience, I wouldn't say there was anything I enjoyed in the beginning. It was more so either this was bad or this wasn't that bad and I could try it again. With time, I got more comfortable trying new food and eventually learned to actually like some of it! The biggest thing for me has been to be patient with myself and understand my limits. Felix also does follow up sessions that may be helpful if you feel you're still having some hesitation or anxieties regarding new food. But the biggest thing is to acknowledge the fact that you're at least trying new things and to continue doing so. The liking food will come with time

I’m so happy this worked for you! Did it do anything to help with your dislike of doing dishes? Also, random, but did you happen to have a fear of animals too?
@TatianaMarie
@TatianaMarie Год назад
Hi Kimberly! Great question. I would say it helped some but it didn't take my dislike of doing the dishes completely away. I think that's also tied to my OCD so that's probably why. And no, I never had a fear of animals. Moreso, I hated cleaning up after them, more specifically their feces, but I wasn't scared of them. Hope that helps!

Can I ask you something is hypnosis a must? Also is hypnosis short-term?
@TatianaMarie
@TatianaMarie 2 года назад
Sure! No not at all! Phobias are often successfully treated with hypnosis but as Felix mentions on his website, it's not a total requirement. It's less about being hypnotized and more about being open to change. This is why he gives you the option of keeping your eyes open through the process. The "hypnosis" is short-term and at most only lasts 10 minutes and then it's back to normal. But not everyone gets hypnotized and it still works for them. I still felt pretty aware through the process and had good results at the end :) hope this helps

Hows it going your pod business

I just watched your first ARFID video and it's so accurate to what I think I've always experienced (not to mention that I am Colombian too!) I'm extremely anxious when it comes to food due to emetophobia and a fear of choking. I don't trust someone else's cooking, I'm very weary of expiration dates and left overs, and if I don't know a restaurant's review score, I probably won't eat there. It's definitely exhausting. I know your hypnotherapy was more focused towards trying new foods, but did it happen to help with your fear of vomiting by any chance?
