I never knew that other countries think of meat pies as a strange thing. Every time you took a bite and your eyes lit up I was just nodding my head knowing that nobody can write it off until they try it. I dated an American lady a few years ago and her mind was blown when she tried her first pork and watercress pie. She was definitely converted 😂❤️

Hahaha I’ve been living in Australia since 2009 and I stopped eating pies altogether pretty quickly. Not just because of other decent local options, but because most Aussie pies are just not good. Same story with Fish & Chips, which I only have on the odd occasion. But when I’m back in NZ it’s back to pies and fish & chips.
You should have tried Torbay Bakery for their pies. Won so many awards it's crazy. And yes as a local their pies are so awesome as well as the other bakery by the hairdressers. YUMYUM

You ain’t going to the right places. I’ve had pies this size or bigger at Beechworth, Victoria. Had one for lunch there and after that I didn’t eat for the rest of the day.

As a Kiwi living in Canada I so miss good pies. A great pie combination used to be after midnight in the winter at Flinders Street Station Melbourne. A bowl of Pea soup with a meat pie floating in the soup and topped with mushy peas and tomato sauce. At the White lady pie cart. Cold winter night after finishing work at 2.00am. That was in 1969 so they must have been good that I still remember having them. I still also remember a pie shop on Lower queens st. Auckland that in season used to make the most unbelievable apricot pie. Oh the flavour of fresh cooked apricots and herbs in a pie shell. Heaven

OMG YOU WENT TO BLUE ROSE!! I will always get one of the pies. We bought the palusami pies for my cousins from Australia because they never tried and became instant fans! Also the Koko Samoa cupcakes are delectable and honestly one isn't enough. Make sure you get some breakfast when you're there because they're really good!
Awesome! Lu'au is traditionally coconut cream, seasoned with salt, poured into taro leaves 😊 usually Samoan dish, but I suspect many Island nations have similar dishes. Haven't tried, but would love to! I'm pleased to have come across your vid!
In Australia we can't get single-serve pies that big unless we bake our own. When I have a pie night with bought pies, I have to have two, but I definitely could NOT get through two of those delectable looking beauties.
Get a family pie and share really a family pie would be close to the equivalent of 2 pies well depends on the size of the family pie . Maybe eat half and freeze half for latter .

Fresh out of the oven Maketu smoked fish pie can't be beaten in my opinion, sadly up north nobody seems to sell them, tradies always know the best bakery in an area, well in my day we did

You have to go to a bakery to get a good pie. Smoked fish pies are the best. I had one yesterday, so good. I also love Mince n Cheese, Pork Belly, Potato Top and I love Salmon Quiche
1988 I moved from NZ to Australia. To this day I am yet to find a pie as good as a kiwi pie ! I can see these pies are full on real ingredients and taste. sigh
I lived in Australia for 38.5yrs, and yet the N.Z meat pies are rated 10/10. The Meats are chunky, moist and tender. My favorite is steak and pepper pies at the AA Bakery in Te Puke, North Island New Zealand and I traveled up and down N.Z too.
The pies in NZ were ASTOUNDING, used to get a lot of shit from the workers there because I really enjoyed what they would call cat food pies that were super duper gelatinous mince meat concoctions. Get one of them with the crispy cheese baked onto the top of the lid game changer, would use 2/3rds of my lunch break just driving to the corner shop and grabbing a couple.
Good old Kiwi pie proves we can throw anything between pastry and make it special. How many accidents has the good old scolding hot Kiwi pie been blamed for causing lol. Miss the old pie cart after rolling outa the pub.

Loved this vide; am also a fan of Blue Rose and pies in general. This might not be your standard affair but give Richoux's (Ellerslie) vegan pies a try. They are shockingly good...esp the vegan beef, jalapeno and cheese one. And Muzza's makes amazing smoked fish pies too. Cheers
I haven’t been home in a while but no waay they make lu’au (taro leaf) pies? Lu’au and coconut cream is amazing but in a pie ok. Those pies look amazing.

You need to try Muzza's Pies on Richardson Rd Mt Albert .Their pies are legendry . Muzza's is about 10 minutes drive from where you are at Blues Rose in Sandringham .
west side bakehouse in te atatu South on te atatu road/Roberts road ,their pies are delicious and doughnuts and sweets are really delicious. try them out some time.
