I do not design any of the dresses on my channel, I am a stylist that works with designers to showcase fun bridal styles and ideas! All of these are from House of Leehwa, one of the most respected Hanbok ateliers in the US.
Not traditional Korean wedding attire at all 😅😅 But it’s still pretty ¨̮ I would say it is more of a modernized hanbok. Korean traditional wedding attire for women would include a hwal-ot or wonsam for the top, which are usually made of red or light green silk and heavily embroidered! White is traditionally a mourning colour and would not be worn at weddings. just a fun fact from a Korean passing by ☺️
@@sharonfleshman6961 Yes! Traditionally white is a mourning colour, but nowadays due to western influences, most Koreans will wear black at funerals and white wedding dresses :) I think it's still common for people to do a western style reception and then either a smaller traditional ceremony or a hanbok photoshoot for weddings. I think the dresses shown in the video would be great in a casual wedding photoshoot
@@aprilee_421 when I was there, there would often be two weddings with American or traditional dress but no mixing of the two. Wedding dresses are being much more individual creations in the US as well.
No, Koreans prefer to wear white! It is a color that represents the origin and the foundation of the people so people wore it literally everyday. White is traditionally worn daily, not just when mourning. So, it is not associated with mourning hence nothing wrong with wearing it at weddings.
That dress is absolutely beautiful. And it looks so elegant on you (Forgive me if I offend anyone as I am not Korean and know very little on the history and culture)
I'm korean and this is a nice representation of our culture. Only thing is the petticoat is not exactly traditional but I think it could work for a modern look. Traditional undergarments are/were typically more plain. Think like a thin cotton or linen or canvas slip dress with matching puffy pants. Overall good job! 9/10
Having some doubts. Why not much Korean people idols wear traditional dress on their wedding?? If it's becoz they are Christians, which religion does the people who wear traditional dress belong to?
@@padmashreekookie8582nothing to do with religion. Weddings in Korea are quite short(only a few hours) so they usually stick to just one dress. Sometimes they change into traditional Hanbok. Some don’t wear it because they find it uncomfortable. Some just want to simply wear their wedding dress.
@@Koreanaperez oooo ok ..... Who conducts the wedding? Like church priest?? Why am asking because here in India our weddings or based on religion and traditions only. Christians only wear gown and suit, where Hindus wear saree, doti, lehanga

I cannot get over how elegant this silhouette is. The length and fluffiness of the skirt, the contrast of the colours, the fit on the body. This custom is so beautiful
This costume looks like a hanbok much earlier than that of the Joseon Dynasty, not what we commonly know. Just as Western dresses have evolved, Hanbok has evolved by the times. The form in the video is seen as a hanbok form from Goguryeo to Goryeo. The design is well designed to suit modern times. It's pretty!🥰👏🏻
That too! It looks comfortable and practical to wear while still having a really special feel to it No corset, garter, strapless top to pull up all night, or difficult zips to worry about. Bonus too that it looks rather cozy, with multiple layers and a coat.
My aunt by marriage is Korean. We had a full Korean ceremony and I had my own "bridesmaid" dress. I'm 50 now and still have it. One thing I will never let go waiting for my cousin to have a daughter to pass it to her😁
Very beautiful! I love it! One thing I want everyone to keep in mind is that Hanbok has huge variety of its designs because it’s been around for over centuries. It changed a lot over time and I am guessing the one she’s wearing is very close to what we wore in Goguryeo dynasty, or it could be just fusion/modernized hanbok. Not technically a wedding wear for sure because they usually happened to appear in the most known hanbok form. Not saying hanboks were worn for specific occasions in the past, although it is now since we don’t wear much, you can wear hanbok to anywhere just like you wear your daily wear to everywhere.
I've been reading comments that this is not strictly a Korean wedding dress, & I have no idea, but I will say that this seems to be a blending of cultures, styles, modern & traditional, & it is beautiful. Look what happens when we all work together & respect each others' ways!
I am Korean and the hanboks in this video are really beautiful! But what you have to do exactly is that all of these things are modern. Since Hanbok is a clothing that maintains tradition and is making modern development, many modern hanboks are also made. However, in Korea, traditional wedding hanboks called 'hwarot' and 'wonsam' are still used. They have mainly red, green, navy, and gold colors, and are decorated with colorful numbers and gold leaf, and are much heavier and longer than ordinary hanboks. RM of BTS once donated 100 million won to preserve the hwarot relics. Anyway, Hanbok is really beautiful.💜
as a non korean I have no idea if it is a traditional attire or if its a modernized version, but I will say I have seen some wedding ceremonies that incorporate the hanbok and let me say that I would personally choose to marry in the traditional attire rather than a white wedding dress because they are just so beautiful.
This is a modern variation of the traditional Hanbok! Younger Koreans and more progressive designers have found fun ways to experiment and develop the old design while keeping all the important elements that make a Hanbok a Hanbok (directional design, colors, materials, shapes, etc.)
Hanbok is not only modern, but there are many types Besides the Joseon Dynasty hanbok that we know well, there is also the Gojoseon costume from the Three Kingdoms period
I just had to add my 2 cents. I’m all in favor of modernization and evolution of hanbok, but the caption says “traditional” and as the commenter above notes, this is not a “traditional” gown, at least not in terms of the typical 20th c. bridal hanbok (as another commenter noted, hanbok has changed over time anyway), although it is very elegant and chic with the white and black colors and calligraphy. It’s like a fusion with other Asian and Western influences.

My sister-in-law is Korean, she and my brother had a traditional Korean wedding. She wore a red dress, it didn't look like this. They did it in Korea so sadly I couldn't attend.
I do like the colorful tradional gowns....beautiful and graceful....and elegance.... These modern designs are updated tradional style..they are pretty as well !
It's a very modern take, with the petticoat and the color(white is traditionally mourning colors; at weddings brides tend to wear red). It looks like those pretty hanboks you can borrow in front of gyeongbokgung. I love it :D
