Depends on school but in mine you go in 9th and 10th but have to be asked for senior and junior 🤷🏻‍♀️

Here in england its similar only last year of primary school so juniors and Last year of secondary school people go prom but you DO NOT NEED TO BE ASKED OUT i thinks thats a bit crazy cause you can always go with your friends
