thanks for sharing for the boating community. My first liveaboard slip here in Sf bay area on a 45ft coastal cruiser. Just ordered the starlink standard kit with $120 residential plan.Hope to find a 12 volt conversion kit for the low power draw. Grateful for the Bluetti A500 and the four E300 batteries that runs 1 freezer/mini fridge/echoflow portable fridge/12v 50c mobile fridge/washer and dryer/1500watts bunner/Mr coffee maker. Solar charge during the day/shore power charge by night. Cheers

Many thanks for that.. I've noticed a few cretinous comments below from tecno-nerds wanting an in-depth review of the Mini-Star-link.. they obviously lack the brains and common sense to research it elsewhere rather than on a RU-vid sailor's blog.. ignore them, hopefully they'll go away and play with themselves.

It would have been interesting to see you playing some games, getting an idea of the latency, and having some decent gaming experience on the connection. Cheers.

@Cptnbond Ah, you are probably right but unfortunately I am definitely not a gamer. In fact I only have 1 game on my computer and it's from 1988. Crusaders of the Dark Savant, an old RPG style. 😁

@@sailingonabudget well I thought it was a good video - appreciate your style. You know what might be a worthwhile test? Putting the mini through its paces while in motion. Curious about connection while underway, the general motion of a boat while in motion. Just watched a video of a guy driving with it on his dashboard- seemed to work although he said it popped up a warning and dropped his connection once. Maybe zoom call while underway - that would be pushing the possibilities of connection. Cheers. ps- Ben from sailboatstory - top bloke

You can buy second hand panels dirt cheap & new hard panels can be had at reasonable prices from the interwebs.😊

@@jackdbur You're right, and I think about it often. But I'd also have to upgrade my controllers and add a little bit of wiring. I'll see what I have left after I get my next haulout done in October. The budget is getting pretty real !

@ronpeterson7773 Hey Ron, she is a 1980 Endeavour 32. She's not really considered a "blue-water" boat but she's built pretty stout and makes a great coastal and Bahamas/Caribbean cruiser. 😉👍

If you going far from land do you need to purchase additional data? I still do not understand how this tafifs work
@sailingonabudget
@sailingonabudget Месяц назад
@predatorj3012 My understanding is that it's not so much about the data as it is the plan you have. To truly cruise anywhere you need the "global" plan.

@@robinhughes7576 So, the Mini is actually $100 more than the standard BUT it has a built in wifi which is really nice. It also runs on 12 volts as you saw. 2 plans are available, $50 for 50GB or $150 for unlimited.

I use T-Mobile 5G wireless home internet 546M down true unlimited data, guaranteed to never change my plan or pricing. Think it's $50 a month now, but I'm grandfathered in for $30. I hate Elon Musk I think he's a Russian asset and I'll be damed if I ever pay him a cent let alone a monthly recurring fee. I understand som people absolutely need Starlink because they are too far out to sea. If you're going to get Starlink, get it in another country like MX and it's half what you pay in the US, but again F. Musk.

Checked out your channel- what are you sailing, Tayana 37? Above are you saying you use your Tmobile onboard? How far offshore do you still get signal, have you pushed it? I'm in the process now of deciding on how to stay connected while cruising. Examined hotspot + cellular booster, took a quick look into Tmobile home internet + MIMO antenna, and now here to examine starlink mini. Cheers.
