If quality customer service is important to you, DRAGONtail is unmatched. They are incredibly responsive. I received shipping notification on a replacement rod section less than an hour after I placed the order! That service ethic alone makes them my go-to vendor.

Yup, I totally agree as well. Brandon has been super great to deal with in all of my transactions( both DragonTail and Moonlit). For me, one of the best things about DragonTail is that they actually stock all of the replacement sections for their rods. I fell on my mutant and snapped the tip and 2nd section...I was able get both shipped to me for less than 40 bucks in 3 days. Pretty hard to beat. On the other hand, I need a tip for my Tenkara Rod Co. BearTooth and they are out of stock( and parts are buried on their website and not easy to find). I'll be sticking with DragonTail from now on.

Another great video, especially enjoy your laid-back approach. Thanks for the great footage as always... Just like to add I own several more expensive rods from different companies and I can highly recommend the Dragontail rods for the excellent quality, action and especially the price point... Not to mention one of the best features is customer service! Never a quality or performance issue just equipment questions and Brent and his staff have been the most courteous and helpful I have ever dealt with and I am 70 years old... You're honest approach to gear is right up there with the best Tristan and turned me on to this great company to begin with... Damn, I'm sorry to sound like a commercial, I have nothing to do with Dragontail tenkara... Outstanding videos young man,I enjoy watching them every week thanks again! mca

What a coinky dinky. I just watched the Dragontail video flick about the new Kaida just yesterday. I reckon it would be a great compliment to the Dragontail Hellbender as well as my Tenkara USA Sato to take car camping and fishing. All my bases would be covered and really wouldn't need any other rods. Then again...just one more rod. Just one more fly. Just one more fish! Mahalo for all you do!

Hi Tristan, I noticed you leave a tag of nylon on the knot attaching the fly to the leader. The first thing I was taught 50yrs ago was to remove this as close to the knot as possible as a fish can get pricked by the tag and shy off the fly during a gentle take. I would be interested if removing this increased your hookup rate. Tight lines, Mark

I like the review and the rod. I haven't replaced the one that escaped my cargo box yet and I think I'll replace it a multiple size one. Clueless how that feature alters casting performance...backpacking size interests me as I can spend hours hiking to a location and carry a back up ultra light spinner and/or a fly rod. Not often yet enough to have that as a consideration. Man, that location...such beauty!!!

A rod that can be fished at multiple sizes will feel a bit different at each length. Usually one feels a bit better than the others, but all are usable. Thanks Michael.

Having just started, I am going to say that I like the simplicity of Tenkara style as well as the challenge of no reel. I used to fish with cane poles and to me this is in many ways a throwback to that. I fish mostly with spinning reels and tried fly fishing, but for where I was living and fishing, there just wasnt accessible areas to get proficient, this method seems simple at first glance, but has a level of challenge to it.

I can see how this rod does not add much versatility given your broad collection of tenkara rods. However, for those of us without a Zen Tenkara Suzume Rod, or something comparable in utility, does the Kaida Rod fit well in that usage niche? Thanks for giving us a look at how this rod fishes while taking us along on your adventures.

Hey Tristan.. I usually watch your hiking channel but have recently been hooked on your Tenkara fishing. my husband fly fishes .. a lot. but I'm not that into it, but I recently purchased a Tenkara rod you had talked about (sorry. I dont have it with me and cannot for the life of me think of which one it is.. ). but I haven't used it yet, cuz I cannot figure out what kind of line or how to attach it.. or do I need a leader? tippet? Fly-fishing stores have not been that helpful. do you have a video on that? thanks!!

@@Fernando_Woolybooger appreciate the response. I'm on the fence between Kaida and Mizuchi. Only reason being that I'm more of an ultralight backpacker. How do you like it compared to the Dragontail Mizuchi? in relation to the shortest lengths? I'm looking to get a complement to my shadowfire 365, something better for small crowded streams.Torn between the two options. I"ve heard the Mizuchi is hard to properly cast at the shortest length, mainly good for bow casting.
