Yes. But honestly, I'm a total carnivore, so kiełbasa and maczanka take the spot. Also, I'm actually from Kraków and you had a solid pick of good spots (maczanka from Andrus is among my favourites, but I have had better zapiekanka than what they serve at the Okrąglak). I also highly recommend the ice cream chain called "Good Lood" (multiple locations across the city, easiest to Google it to find the nearest one - they also do delivery if you have their app on your phone), if you decide to visit again.
Zapiekanka was invented in the Polish People's Republic during communism. Meat was a rare delicacy back then, but there was cheese and mushrooms, so someone invented a dish that could be sold to customers as fast food.
Pracownik fizyczny 3 kg. Przeciętne miesieczne zarobki wystarczyły na zakup około 30 butelek 0.5 litra najtanszej wódki. Jestes normalny?
@@jerzyjerzykowski1281 to prawda. Jedna z najgorszych dekad w histori powojennej Polski. Gospodarka totalnie upadla.
If you want to eat tasty and healthy food, support Poles and Polish farmers! We, Poles, thank God for the land he gave us for farming and we know how to use it. Poles do not need caviar or truffles to create delicious food from simple products. I wish you bon appetit and best regards.
We love what's local and fresh! But in the period we were there (mid-March), even at fresh markets, it was possible to buy something seasonal, because basically the crops from a given year are available from May/June 😜
Greetings, you are both great, we are looking forward to the new videos, especially when the topic is Poland, because at the end of May we will visit Poland as a family.
Pozdrowienia z Macedonii
Zapiekanki definitely didn't originate in Krakow. Zapiekanki in Krakow aren't the best, they are the most famous. Zapiekanki - Casseroles were created at a time when food was rationed. It was the communist era in the 1980s. The stores only had ketchup, vinegar, mushrooms, cheese and shampoo. Small gastronomy was going bankrupt. Someone somewhere came up with the idea of baking a baguette with cheese and mushrooms and pouring ketchup over it. I was on the coast and there were zpiekanki there, similarly in Warsaw, but they weren't in Krakow yet. It was the early 1980s.
We really like Kraków - it is not only the cradle of history, but also a city of culture and food! So it really caters for everyone and I believe most of the people would have a fun short getaway in Kraków 🥳 Thanks for watching!
What a barrel of laughs that doughnut vendor was !! I've cancelled his invite to my Birthday party . Great video ...excellent camerawork and commentary 👌
Wait you know the doughnut guy? 😆 We were thinking he's probably fed up with all the tourists including us haha. Thank you very much - I appreciate this comment very much 👍
Hi jay and carolina! I’ve watched all your Poland videos. All your videos are great. I’ll be traveling to Poland next month and I’m more excited to try polish food. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I was actually born in Krakow but moved to Canada as a small child, and have been living in Korea for almost two decades. Anyway it was so nice to see the foods i miss such as paczki, zapiekanka, obwarzanki and a polish grilled sausage. I never had if from that man in the blue van but i have watched some videos and many mention him. I hope to go back to Krakow for a visit this or next year and will try to locate him and his van. Karolina's zapiekanka is the one i would get too because that is the simple zapiekanka i remember from my childhood (with cheese, mushroom, ham, ketchup, and chives). You made me so hungry with this video hehe. And i never had or heard of Maczanka but i want to try it thanks to you. Another great video
Thank you so much for sharing your experience! Thinking of Canada we would love to go there one day :) 🇨🇦 Krakow is a paradise for all the foodie lovers! We were so happy trying both home-cooked foods and local street food. Yes, classic zapiekanka is just with mushroom and cheese (loads of SAUCE!) but it's great to combine it with some other ingredients! Maczanka was also a big discovery for us since it was the very first time we had it! But it's apparently very well-known for Kraków! Hope you make it soon to Poland! Take care and thank you so much for watching :)
"Like this Polish doughnut 🍩!" 😆 You two work good together with the camera! The Nutella looked amazing! Great information about Poland you both have been doing. Lovely views as you took a tour around! One question 🙋♀️ do you both miss the hot weather?
Thanks so much! Our pleasure 😊 It's been kind of easier to talk about the things that you already know but some people are not familiar of! But on the other hand, you worry about saying too less or too much haha We're so glad the weather in Europe is getting better! We still have some family events to attend but I can already say that we're planning our big trip as of this AUTUMN 🧡
Good to see you guys again! Hope that was the last 'wintery' vid from Kraków this year - the weather getting better and better every day, so you can slowly put your scarves away to the closets (darn, it sounds bad in Polish :D )! Happy to see your joy there Jay and happy to see Karolina again! :) No i... Dumny z Karoli! :) P.S.: My top 3 are as follow: 1. Zapiekanka 2. Maczanka 3. Kiełbasa
We're so glad you enjoyed watching this video 😍 Imagine how much fun we must have had filming it! We weren't very lucky with the weather because it was a cold day, but we warmed ourselves with goodies along the way. Zapiekanka "rozwaliła system" 🤪 Thank you so much!!!
@@JayandKarolina I haven't even received a notification you replied my comment, so belated, but sincerely: Yes, i DID enjoy your vlog! I can imagine and I'm so envious! Ofc, zapiekanka RULEZ THEM ALL! :D And, you're very welcome, my pleasure! :)
The prices seems very proportional to the minimum hourly pay. According to google 30 zl is the minimum hourly pay which was the same back in 2014 in the UK. Poland looks like it has dramatically changed since the early 2000s when I visited there. Looking forward to going back in the future.
I couldn't agree more! We love coming back to Poland because it is very affordable for EVERYONE! It's also developing very quickly, so you can get access to top restaurants, modern hotels or amazing activities for reasonable money :)
Zapiekanka is a traditional Polish product for small businesses, traditionally sold in small places at bus and train stops. Its composition was simple, good bread, mushrooms, baked cheese and spices, and that's all.
Yes, Zapiekanka was the best and nowhere else could we eat Pretzels like those 😍 We actually didn't perceive the Sausage guys to be impolite - they were just busy with the work because even on a random Monday evening there was a big crowd!
❤️❤️ We're also not eating fast-food very often, but as we highlighted in this video: this street food was of a great quality and actually we found it super tasty (so maybe it doesn't count as unhealthy? 😅)
There is a function that translates comments directly into Korean. Oh~ It's amazing Although I am Korean, I really like bread, but bread is expensive in Korea, which is sad. That bread looks delicious
Yes, the translator is doing it job on RU-vid! In Poland people love eating bread (especially sandwiches for breakfast/dinner) and the basic loaf is quite cheap! But also recently more and more artisan bakeries have been opened and then it’s a different story 😋
Yeah, we could experience that for sure! Both the cities are quite international but Krakow surprisingly was way easier for us to have nice interactions with people :)
1.17 So you have just bought a donut for 8.50 Polish zloties, which works out at £1.70 pence. I think I shall sty with my local Tesco where I can buy a bag of four for a pound or even less!
Fair enough mate haha! Krakow is very much a touristy city so prices are more expensive. I don't mind buying this donut as a one off because it's really fresh and enough to feed two people :D
You'll be surprised now! The city obviously still kept its medieval charm but there's so many things that are new around the city 🥳 Worth visiting definitely for a longer weekend trip!
Great video , going there this summer, people have warmed me that it may be racist, but I'm taking that with a pinch of salt as I've been to the Ukraine and Russia and everywhere people were lovely. Fingers crossed this trip will be fine too.
It was a great idea to promote it 😍 Nowadays people like to eat something quick on-the-go which is not necessarily unhealthy so when you have a great spot, you’re a winner!
What is she talking about? Rafaello donut is not even in TOP 10 of popular donuts ;) It's quite new version. The most popular and traditional one is filled with rose jam or marmolade and another one with eggnog filling. And please don't call zapiekanka a polish pizza because it's simply zapiekanka and have nothing to do with pizza.
That’s what I said - the most traditional one is with rose marmalade but everyone loves Rafaello in Poland so this filling is becoming popular in such places like Dobra Pączkarnia 🙏 [Karolina] Haha, yes, zapiekanka is more like an opened bread sandwich I agree 😋
There has never been hunger in Poland, we do not know this concept from the times of peace, but only from the times of the German occupation. There has always been plenty of food in Poland, so much that we did not have to eat Moors, snails and frogs. We do not eat these dishes for now.
I would agree only partially because according to our reaserch and facts, there was shortage of expensive ingredients such as meat, sweets etc. during the communism times. That’s the reason why people got the food for the cards - so called „karteczki” - and needed to find ways of cooking cheap meals.
What is the answer to hunger in Poland when its basic ingredients include, in addition to good bread, a layer of mushrooms and yellow cheese? After all, these are expensive ingredients? There are still fairy tales about hunger in Poland during communism. So there was no hunger among us, but there was a desire for freedom.
It was more political rather than real hunger :) The government wanted to control everything after the war, which was quite normal considering the many decades of being dependent of the intruders.
Can I just say I love you too and was waiting for every video in the far east but in the nicest way showing us stuff in Poland is not very appealing and quite boring. It’s just dull there and this is my opinion so don’t let it effect you but the things you really get excited about is the stuff on the other side of the world 🌍 good luck to you both and I hope you’re going somewhere exciting next
Hey Callum! Don’t worry mate we’re heading to China, Japan, South Korea and other parts of Asia from September onwards. We have a few weddings to attend to so we thought we’ll just continue filming what we can. I have to confess that we are going to be filming in the UK until September 😅 Hopefully it will be more interesting for you until we get back to Asia!
Zamiast najpierw poczęstować swoją partnerkę, która najwyraźniej zaprowadziła go w to miejsce, zaczyna jeść pączka sam. I to w sytuacji, kiedy to ona wprowadziła go w to miejsce.
