I’m kind of stump over people’s excitement over Prismacolor. That ‚softness‘ is a negative factor to me, because I feel like they smear somewhat and I have no real control over them. Last night started a pic with Prismacolor and decided to finish it with Polychromos. The Prismas just weren’t layering to make an impression. The Pablos are just as „soft“ but feel firmer in the lead and lay down good pigmentation and allows good control. I’m currently going through my collection to see which I would call TOL. The Derwent Lightfast are a very close match to Polychromos in my opinion. I have some single Luminance but haven’t done anything much with them. I definitely won’t buy Luminance because I already have pretty much all the main brands and I am not an artist and would never sell my work. That said, I can definitely say to someone, even a beginner, buy the best affordable of the higher end. They make your work look so much better and bring satisfaction with the effort.
